Love This App
Since retirement bird watching has become one of my great joys-the thing I wanted to do but never had time for. I have been so happy with the Smart Bird ID App. Everyday I discover something new in my own backyard. I am discovering the names, songs and feeding habits of a wide variety of birds using this app as my primary learning tool. It is great having Michael and a team of experts at my fingertips. When I have a question I get immediate feedback. I can send a bird photo and they even confirm my identification. Without a doubt my most often used and shared app is Smart Bird ID. I would highly recommend it.

I absolutely love this app!
I just recently (since the pandemic) decided to get to know all the different birds living around me. I see so many different kinds and I love waking up to their songs. Im so glad I have this app. It’s saved me time from researching through song files and guessing by pictures. It’s addictive and Im constantly pulling up the app when Im out in nature. The community piece is really nice and if you have any trouble identifying a bird the app has very efficient support that responds fast and I find them to be very personable. Worth every penny

They changed their practices. Trying to stick it to the man.
I put down $30 to get access to the library for a full year. I thought that was steep but the ratings were high, so I went with it. I initially used it last year a few times a month. It was fun novelty. Now it’s spring and as I hear more birds I’ve reverted back to trying to use the app. But now I have all of these prompts for up-charges. “You’ve already identified one bird today. Close or visit the App Store for an upgrade or listen to an ad.” One chirp ID wasn’t what I signed up for, Missy. And I’m not listening to one of your ads in the peaceful wild when I’ve already paid up for access to a data base. This Birder is too greedy for me.

Great app, spectacular support!
My daughter and I bought the app on a whim while taking a walk in the woods. It’s terrific. I love the ability to identify birds by appearance or audio capture. It’s also really fun to see what others in the area have identified recently. I encountered a small bug (one bird’s audio files weren’t playing back) and emailed the developer, who responded within hours. That’s great support! We’re very happy with our purchase (the basic app is great, but we felt the full upgrade was reasonably priced and added some convenience—plus, we like to support developers).

Spring Bird Story!
So I’ve had this app for awhile now and used it a bunch last summer while sitting on the porch to identify the neighborhood birds. Now that it is spring again, my little bird collection is growing as new flocks come in and over while they migrate. This morning I had a sweet little bird sitting right outside my office window chirping at me for hours. So I got curious and fired up my bird identification app! Of course I didn’t realize it was several updates behind - the app just kept crashing so I emailed for help. Michael was very patient with me emailing back and forth - but we eventually figured out what had occurred and I was at last able to identify my sweet little house swallow. Thanks for your help, Michael! I anticipate using this app a ton this spring and summer! I also absolutely love the birdsong library.

Great personalized help
I downloaded the app to help identify a flock of birds I have been seeing this year that I had not seen before. The app pulled up some suggestions based on my description, but none matched. I used the contact info in the app to see if a person could give me a definitive match. Sure enough, within a day I had a reply back and the link he sent to a picture was a match to what I saw. Loved the quick personal response. Thanks, Michael!
P.S. I scrolled through the list of recent sightings and found a picture and name of a bird my sister and I had been trying to identify.

Fantastic for the bird-curious
I am new to birding and was looking for an app that would help me begin to identify my backyard birds. I am completely blown away by the amount of information, gorgeous photography, clear audio clips, and general ease of use of this app. It’s really boosted how quickly I can learn my birds, and my three-year-old daughter even has fun with it to boot. Highly recommend the subscription, as you get so much more out of the app, but it’s well, well, well worth it.I started with the free version and within a few hours I upgraded and I am super happy I did!

Goodbye Books!
Fabulous app for a novice or seasoned bird watcher! For years, my husband and I have been searching through books trying to identify birds. No more! I even used a picture of a bird that my husband took last year to identify it. Amazing, had it within 10 seconds. Then I took my phone onto the deck to identify what bird the beautiful song was coming from, and bingo, just a few seconds and I had it. We have a number of bird feeders, and all I need to do is aim my camera on my phone at a bird, and within seconds I know what kind of “customers” are calling. As an added bonus, the yearly subscription was 50% off! For $10, I no longer need to frantically page through bird books, trying to remember every detail of a bird, and arguing with my husband as to what it is! Great app, great price and great timesaver! I highly recommend it.

Nailed It!
I have used a couple of other bird song/call identification apps in the past. I just got this one and the very first time I used it, it correctly identified my bird as one of two possibilities with the higher percentage given my bird.
If, like me, you live in a wooded area with lots of tree coverage for ‘hiding places’ preventing you from getting a visual, then get this app if you’re able to record it’s call. You’ll know soon enough what your bird is and hopefully (as I’m hoping), you’ll get that rare sighting. You’ve got to know it’s there first, though and this should help.

Lost my bird to an ad :(
I was super excited about this app as I’ve had a bird hanging out in the trees of my front yard and have been dying to know what it is. After a week of watching, I FINALLY got a chance to get a good pic for an ID and when I opened the app to use it, I got a prompt to watch a 30 second ad instead. Of course, in bird watching, 30 seconds is a life time and I lost my glorious moment. I understand the need to make money to support the ad, but could it at least been done after the ID and before giving me the results so I don’t lose the opportunity to capture the image? I was so sad and disappointed. I’m deleting the app. Too bad because I feel like it would have been awesome to use.
