Less Immersive

The description of the app leads you to believe it is more “immersive” than the physical print edition or the website—it’s not. The app lacks most of the sections: entertainment (comics, puzzles), sports scores, whether, etc.

I find myself downloading the entire paper from the email they send when new editions are out or visiting the website since they are more “immersive” than this app.

Good daily briefing and UI

I’m a regular subscriber but I usually scroll through the NewsSlide first for a quick look at top stories. Nice mix of articles although a bit too much Sports news. But hey, we’re the City of Champions and the Pirates so I get it.

At best just a fair replacement for the printed paper

The idea the Post Gazette pitches that NewsSlide is a good substitute for the daily print version is absurd. At most, it’s a synopsis of the printed version with much content of the full version omitted. It does include some video which the print version of course can’t include. But in my mind, the added video doesn’t make up for what is dropped.

Limited

NewsSlide replaces the old PG app which had its own problems, but the new one only provides a limited selection of articles. The biggest flaw is the disproportionate number of sports articles, even though Pittsburgh is a big sports town, the undue emphasis is ridiculous. It’s mid April and some days there’s 4 Steelers articles, plus many for NHL, MLB, basketball and high school teams adding up to more than half the content.

Recent Update

The PG Slide was working well until the last update now it won’t open, it just states down loading but won’t open. I only have been able to open it once or twice in the last week or so. Please fix the issue, the last update stated it was to fix bugs and improve functionality, I was not having any problems at that time.

Bad interface

There is no way to overview the day’s articles quickly. When I read a print paper I glance at each page and then choose what to read. This app allows one article at a time. I dread the day when this is the only way to access the PG. there needs to be a way for quick overview. Also navigation is cumbersome. It takes so long to open on my iPad that I give up. PG Reader is better but not great.

PGe is better than I thought

I was never as extremely against the online version of the P-G as the individuals in the TV ads but I wasn’t a fan.
Now that I am using PGe more often. I find that I read more of the ‘paper’ than I did with the actual paper. Somehow it is easier to focus on each article. I only gave 4 stars because I’m still getting used to maneuvering through the sections. It might get 5 stars after a few more weeks of use.

A loyal and grateful subscriber

I appreciate the slide on those days the paper is not in in my driveway. As a 50 year subscriber since my 3 boys delivered from grade 3 until they each left for college, the PG has been a hallmark for us! I can’t begin to tell you how delivering and the route manager, John Radvan, molded those boys to become the responsible men they are today! I only hope you will never do away with the paper issue, though we don’t miss the inky fingers! Also, many thanks for publishing the crossword, celebrity scramble, etc. for those days there is not a paper issue! You at the PG are appreciated! Thank you! Whether sports, national, local, society, comics—anything, you are the very best! Luisa and Larry Nitowski

Rating Feature Does Not Work

I love using the app to read the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but for the last two weeks, when it launches, it asks me to rate the app. Unfortunately, none of the links work, so you have to close and relaunch the app to see any of the content....

Missing the newspaper

This app tends to showcase old news. I am also disappointed that the traditional paper is being phased out. No regard to people of varying abilities with vision and cultural preferences. In fact, the marketing of this app mocked seniors... I don’t believe that this would have been tolerated by any other marketing sector. Please be more sensitive to your faithful readers. Hate how the selection of first reads is preselected. Love the content. Upset with the down-your-throat format.
