Version History of TripLogger Remote

1.11.0

- Calculate metrics for routes, distance, ascent, descent & travel time.

1.10.0

October 26, 2024

You can now import GPX [1] files into the app, containing routes, tracks and waypoints and view them on the map. The GPX files are listed on the routes page. Select a route to be displayed when the map page is opened. Alternatively you can select a track to be shown as your route instead. When you open the map page, the selected route is displayed together with any waypoints from the same GPX file. If you are currently logging locally, your current local track is displayed on the map. If you are using an Apple Watch, make sure to select the 'Run on Watch' option so that the local track is active and available on the watch's map page. Please note that the maps are not available offline within the app, other than those parts that the Apple MapKit API has cached, even if you have saved offline maps within Apple's Maps app. The route, track and waypoints are still visible, but with missing or no map detail in the background. You can of course still use Apple Maps offline features in that situation, perhaps switching between the two. However, always carry traditional paper maps and a compass! - Fixed updating Apple Watch settings after changing the battery threshold alerts on the iPhone. - When logging directly from the Apple Watch, the latest logging date was the date of the most recent successfully sent location, not necessarily the latest successful location, if the locations end up sent out of order (e.g. due to poor connectivity). Fixed.

Description of TripLogger Remote

## Description TripLogger is primarily a GPS logging app which records locations both locally on the device and optionally to a remote server, such as the open-source TripServer [1] remote logging server. GPX [2] files containing waypoints, planned routes and previous tracks can be imported and displayed on the map using Apple's MapKit for SwiftUI API. The map is updated in real time using the locally logged locations such that you can see where you have been and where you want to go. The map can also be used on the Apple Watch. [1]: https://www.fdsd.co.uk/trip-server-2/ [2]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_Exchange_Format Different time and distance intervals can be applied to remote and local logging. For remote logging you will need to setup and host the remote web server yourself or use a third-party hosting service. The app can be used without a remote logging service. The app is designed to provide configuration options which can be used to minimize battery usage. For example, if logging infrequently, the app can be configured to use locations based on Wi-Fi and the mobile phone network, then once a new location is received the GPS is switched on until a sufficiently accurate location is established. The GPS is then switched off again until the next time a new location is reported. Although the app is intended to minimize battery usage, nonetheless, using location background mode may dramatically decrease battery life. The main page of the app displays a summary of its current status together with counters showing how many locations have been saved locally or transmitted to the remote host, including how many of those have succeeded or failed. An activity log reports key events such as the time and location of each position reported to the remote server. Tapping on the location opens and displays it in the Maps app. Locations that have been saved to the local database can be exported in the GPX file format. A paired Apple Watch can be used for either stand-alone logging directly on the Apple Watch or as remote control functionality to the app running on the iPhone, allowing you to monitor and control the application's logging features without needing to take your phone out of your pocket or bag. Depending on the the model, you may still need the iPhone to provide the Apple Watch with Internet access. The iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch can be used to create a note and include it with the next established location sent to the remote host. This is only relevant to remote logging. Notifications can be enabled to advise when the iPhone or iPad battery level is lower or higher than configurable values whilst discharging or charging respectively. Battery level notifications are only sent whilst remote logging is enabled and running on the iPhone or iPad. The app is free, without ads and is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and macOS.

Reviews of TripLogger Remote

Simple and Free

This a great simple app to record gps. Allows for logging gps in gpx format locally or to a remote server. UI is simple, would be nice if a user could view the recorded file on a map.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review. Personally I view the tracks on TripServer (where I can manipulate them, reduce points and convert to a route), but I can see that it could also be useful to preview the track on a map within TripLogger itself. Implemented in version 1.8.0. Many thanks for your suggestion. I hope you find it useful.
