  • The Revenant Should Have Stayed In The Grave!

I am wholly underwhelmed by this latest sequel, which fails to throw surprising twists or turns along the way, and lacks innovative gameplay. I miss the layered complexities of novelty demonstrated by the MCF games from days gone by. The plot conveys a rehash of the cliched theme of investigating the existence of a supernatural entity.

The graphics are saturated in a monochromatic purple-ish coloration; it looks like the developer lazily threw a bucket of paint over the scenes, with little regard for a diversified ambiance.

There is a journal to record fragmented story progression.

If your main interest is playing the HOSs, please be aware that, in my opinion, they are the biggest disappointment of this game. They are mostly composed of insipid word lists — a throw-back to 2012 — and are scant of interactivity, as well as devoid of puzzle-like elements. Furthermore, scenes are revisited, a feature that is not ordinarily connected to this developer's work. Some of the puzzles offer a slight challenge, and their types are varied. I came across a particular puzzle that looked like a super puzzle upon first glimpse, but it turned out to be far from super — it was very easy to effect the solution. They are still the best component of this game, although not the best I've seen. You discover a few sets of collectibles throughout the locations.

This game is, by far, in my opinion, the worst in the MCF series: no originality, uninteresting storyline, lackluster HOSs, and uncreative gameplay. I only purchased it because no other game is available at this time. I bumped my rating of 2.5 stars up to a final 3 stars due to smooth transition and glitch-free gameplay. I strongly suggest, though, that you play the free trial before purchasing.
  • Revenant

I love this game, I have always enjoyed the Ravenhearst series and this is similar. This game is a challenge for me which is usually not the case. And the story line is interesting. Of course there are collectibles and morphing objects. An achievement is for how many times you’ve reset a game.
I’m going to purchase it. I haven’t had a challenge for awhile.
  • The Revenant’s Hunt

While I mostly rate the Big Fish games that I purchase, which is well into the 100s, and throughout many years, I rarely review them. However, this game definitely deserves a review!

The Revenant’s Hunt is a part of the Mystery Case Files, a series made by Eipex. There are some of the usual touches that I have come to prefer now, such as, a journal, teleportation, custom settings, as well as, a few collectible-type components (albeit, they’re not exactly “collectibles”, but rather “seek and find”). With that said, I must say that this is, by far, one of the worst games in this series... and quite possibly by Eipex!

From the beginning to the end, I felt as though the devs were in a hurry to release “something”, and call it a HOAG. It weighs much too heavily on HO and mini games, in which nearly every HO scene is revisited, and very little in the way of adventure. There was not enough sensical interaction with the characters and scenes to make this a solid, or enjoyable game. The words “confusion” and “confusing” seem to be a common factor among some reviews, and I could not agree more! In fact, had I not hastily purchased this game, I would have deleted it within the first 10 minutes of gameplay.

My conclusion: “The Revenant’s Hunt” is a complete waste of time, and it’s definitely not worth buying; even if, it were on sale for .99¢.
My advice: play before you pay.
  • Terrible

The last few offerings from Big Fish have been terrible. Story line is laughable and the whole game had a “thrown together” feel. Not up to standards by any means.
  • There’s a glitch

I’m enjoying the plot but there is a glitch at the broken mill. The 3 buns needed to open the door can be removed without triggering it to open and you cannot go back and repeat it. You then can’t go any further. Please fix and update or tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks.
  • Old School

This is very much a throwback to the early games I liked so much. And I’m good with that. It’s the first game that Big Fish has put up in months that I actually wanted to play; I haven’t even finished a demo in that time.

The bonus game is weak, but otherwise: fine
  • Confusing, Dark, Ultimately Boring

Muddled plot, difficult to find the hidden collectibles and morphing objects, Small and dark graphics. Boring HOPs, puzzles difficult. Responsive teleporting map. Relatively fast refresh rate.

I am very disappointed, I expected much better for this exciting series!
  • Okay

Game was okay. Wish it had built on the lore a bit more, twist ending was a little hard to believe. Not my favorite types of puzzles personally. I do personally like the darker in tone games, so I had fun.

Bonus chapter made zero contextual sense to me, other than same lore being used.
  • Revenants

Fun game but too dark for me.
  • Not very good

Poor HOP - too dark and blurry. Standard mini games that are difficult to skip. Story making even less sense that usual
