Great iOS MPD Client

I have been satisfied with this client. The widget is extremely useful for controlling playback from the lock screen. It is missing a couple features I would like to see, but overall great app, clean interface.

Fantastic app for Chord’s Poly streamer!

Works really well, it’s near-flawless in fact. I’m currently considering what the paid-for subscription model adds to the feature mix.

Disappointing

I paid for Mpad and enjoyed using it. But now it has been removed from the App Store to be replaced with this, I have for a new iPad and cannot control my hifi any longer.

Considering I have already paid for your MPD controller app do you think you could give me access to this new version?

Nicely Done!

Just about perfect for me and how I listen to music (not a playlist kind of guy). Would love to see volume control mapped to the iPad/iPhone volume buttons.

Almost Great

Excellent interface but doesn’t support UPnP and any online music services like Tidal or Spotify. If it did this I would easily give it 5 stars. When the free subscription ends I will unfortunately say goodbye.

The best MPD interface for iOS

I use a iPhone to access my Raspberry Pi music server running Rune Audio. This app is a dream come true. Ever since Mpod stopped being updated I’ve been missing the ability to shuffle tracks and select random albums from my collection. This app does that and more. Now art appears where it didn’t before and Thank you!!!! Keep up the good work.

Excellent MPD front end

I’ve tried many front ends for MPD and Volumio on my iPhone, and there is nothing that matches this app’s polish and quality. The Volumio HTML based front end is sluggish compared to this app.

I particularly like the similar look and feel of Apple’s Music app, so you don’t have to learn a brand new interface.

The developer is also very responsive to your feedback and I find them very considerate of enhancement recommendations.

Excellent mpd client for iOS

If you’re one of the (apparently few) people looking for an mpd client for iOS, this is the one to get. Nice functionality, good design, and it actually works! Been waiting for an app like this for a long time.

Response from developer

Thank you.

Not as good as MPaD

This appears to be new software based on the work of the author of MPaD, but it's really a step backwards and not as good.
The reasons are:
1) Rigelian only really works in landscape mode because otherwise the navigation is hidden from view. MPaD worked perfectly in landscape or portrait mode
2) Rigelian has a dumbed down interface with less buttons, so it takes more button presses, more scrolling and the need to flip to landscape mode to achieve the same outcome as you can with much less effort in MPaD.
3) The playlist in Rigelian might be only one click away, but with MPaD it was always visible and usable, zero clicks away.
4) MPaD had letters A-Z next to artist and album lists so you can quickly hit (e.g.) letter "S" to see all artists starting with that letter without loads of scrolling. Rigelian doesn't have this.
5) MPaD has almost everything you need available on the screen at one time: playlist, now playing, transport controls, album, artist, browse, volume control, search, settings, whilst still leaving most of the space for browsing through album, artists, songs etc. Rigelian somehow manages to have less screen real estate for browsing through artists / albums whilst also leaving out the majority of the instant access buttons and controls of MPaD.

I had high hopes for this but I'm sadly disappointed. Please just update MPaD for the latest iOS versions and release it!

The solution for me is going to be as follows: Avoid updating my iPad OS version so I can continue to use MPaD. It is the sole reason I have avoided updating my iPaD and things will stay that way until MPaD is updated or Rigelian gets significantly better.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. In response to that: 1) In landscape mode you can swipe in from the left to show the navigation menu which alleviates the problem somewhat. 2, 3 & 5) The space on the iPad is not optimally used at the moment, and we'll be looking to improve this in the future. 4) Indexed scrolling will be added in the future. There will be not be an updated version of MPaD.

May not be quite ready

I may be missing something, or perhaps everything, because the free version is close to useless at this point, as it found no albums while artist, genre and search are reserved for subscribers only. One huge playlist I don't recall creating was found so it was in fact possible to initiate playback of something.

I would have subscribed in a second but the album art placeholder (there was no art displayed at all) is a graphic of a vinyl LP. This makes no sense at all and illogic is never to me a positive sign so I'm waiting a bit. If a picture of a wax cylinder replaces the LP I will give up all hope for this app. ;-) Optimism still lives in the meantime because I know the people behind it are very talented.
