  • Nice clean sound

I purchased the AudioLayer and the XineMatrix library for my iPad and am pleased with them both. AudioLayer is well designed and sounds great.

I did notice a minor issue. In AudioLayer and XineMatrix Settings, active MIDI Sources are listed as "Unknown Name" instead of each apps name. MIDI input seems to be working correctly, but source names missing from the MIDI Sources menu. Rebooting does not fix the issue.
  • Soundfont import 9.99 app is unfit for purpose.

Should have been there from the start . Tip…convert to sfz And import, unless that’s cynically been removed. Yes it been crippled. Words can’t describe how poor and unstable this app is, irs simply unfit for fkn purpose.
  • APP IS BROKEN!!

Tried to report via Website and got this on submitting
    "Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

    So posting info here:

App will not start - crashes every time on splash screen.
    iOS 17.5 , iPad Pro 3rd Generation

    Please Fix.
    Thanks
  • Does not work, glitchy and buggy!

Sfz batch import does not work, the samples are not imported, no matter what I try. Even manually copying the files into the supposed path specified in layers -> missing files has no impact.

Setting the storage location to anything other than “local” forces the import dialog to default to audioshare which is not always wanted. Even importing from audioshare and selecting multiple samples does not work, it only does the first sample.

Creating a new instrument does not work cleanly, the resulting instrument is empty and unplayable after mapping samples but switching to another sound then back to the “just created” sound makes it work.

When storage is set to default “local” you cannot manage the files in Files.app and have to use the crappy internal sample manager. The folder is hidden/invisible by default.

Im guessing this app used to be better… but at £20 I cant wait and am forced to refund. Perhaps the dev broke things with the new sf2 import (should be free!).
  • It just keeps getting better and better at making “instruments”. Best in Class.

Over the course of several years, AudioLayer has adding import capabilities for EXS24, SFX and *now* SF2 soundfonts. And once you import these collections of samples you can continue to edit them and make even more complex and amazing instruments.

Storage works on IOS device, iCloud, or external storage and you’ll probably want to build a massive collection.

Importing samples from anywhere and importing them into AudioLayer is so easy and powerful: either by filename conventions, root pitches or sequenced.

There’s a nice rack of FX functions to add and lot’s of control over layers, zones and such.

And now AudioLayer shares instruments bi-directionally with the KARO sample based Xinematix app so that’s yet another way to pull in samples for instrument and sound design purposes.

It’s the most powerful auto-sampler and instrument builder on IOS.
  • Crash happy

Hello, i have an iPad Pro 12.9 updated to the newest iOS and , this application always crash’s when i open it up… please fix this issue
  • Brilliant.

Seems a lot of outdated reviews on here… So far I’ve found it a really nice app, for me the main downsides are; it makes my old device hot and drains battery fast, so it’s frustrating when I have to use a different sampler when out and about (frustrating because AudioLayer is a favourite). AudioLayer seems to concentrate more on being a sampler so although some other iOS samplers have a lot more features they aren’t features that benefit the actual sampler. You can always you other plugin’s to get better results so I don’t see it as a problem. AudioLayer stays more focused on being a sampler and as a result you get a better sampler. It’s got a lot of control over your samples and is a fantastic tool.
  • The killer sampling app for i-devices

I'm old enough to remember carrying a Yamaha CP70 and Rhodes to gigs. Now I have a better piano in my pocket - on this app running on my 2016 iPhone SE! What makes this possible is the .exs import feature along with Logic's autosampler.

There are features I haven't touched yet but the ones I have work well and I'm surprised at how many AUv3 instances of this app I can add to my AUM setup with no hiccups. At least a gigabyte of samples so far, and I'm adding more - again, on a seven-year old iPhone with the base config. I also use an iPad 9G and everything works there as well.

I'm still a bit confused by how the "scope" checkboxes interact with the zone & instrument levels, and I recently had an issue getting samples in iCloud to move to my local device, but I'm confident they'll be sorted soon. I'm not aware of any other similar sampler app for iOS/iPadOS, let alone one as full-featured. I've been able to replace my MacBook Pro rig on some pretty big gigs thanks mostly to this app!
  • Imports EXS, no Program Change, Limited CC Support

    The Good:

    Imports multi layer EXS24 instruments
    Nice Effects
Saves samples locally to phone or load from iCloud
Good if you play one instrument at a time (like a bottom keyboard piano) and you have plenty of time to change sounds using the menu list.

I use Audiolayer to play my 200mb piano exes multisample. Works nicely!

    The Bad:

    Does not receive program changes
    Limited Controller Support
Cannot quickly change from piano to saw and tweak filter cutoff or effects in real-time

I use a 500mb soundfont and an iOS sf2 player for all my single/ top keyboard dynamic sounds…

This app is one step away from a being a classic multisample performance instrument.
  • It works great!

    Works perfectly in KeyStage.
