Excellent for kids

Our family has used the Yoto player since it was first released. It is great for kids who enjoy audio stories or making their own music playlists. It allows them autonomy in creating their own albums without the distractions of internet, video games and the like, which are often found on many kids devices or audio/mp3 players. The make-your-own cards are good for also making special audio recordings for the kids (ie grandparents recorded reading a story). The podcast option is a nice feature. We recommend the monthly subscription for anyone interested in the product.

A suggestion would be the ability to download the actual story audio files to a computer for back up purposes. The actual audio file is in the cloud and on the Yoto device, but if either goes down then all content is lost/inaccessible.
Also, the app requires wifi connection to use. Which means if you want to select an audio story/card from the app to play on the device then it needs to be wifi connected. Wonder if it is possible to download actual file content to the phone/ipad so the card content (not podcasts) can still be played from the app when offline. Or the device and player could connect via bluetooth in order to continue playing audio from the app on the Yoto player.

Hi Bb888j - thanks for your review and feedback. We’re currently working on downloads to the phone and we hope to show something to customers in the coming months. We’ll also be experimenting with Bluetooth for offline connectivity but at this time, I can’t sure if that will be brought forward as a feature.

Yoto is very good

Thanks for your review seb dude!

Wonderful service

For one My kids love the radio, sleep tight stories and wow in the world and we wow. Thats all they ever listen to. Their random facts through the day are amazing.

I had written a review complaining about not being able to save favorites to a place, they reached out to me telling me about the update and how there is an actual feature. So I was just not searching hard enough, and upon telling my kids they had already knew and I was the only one behind. The app is officially awesome!
Thank you

Hi Natural Babes - sorry to hear that. Please be aware that we had an outage yesterday (we weren’t the only ones!) which may have caused this issue for you. This should now be resolved but if it isn’t please reach out for hello@yotoplay.com for assistance. Regarding favorites, this is exactly what the new Groups feature is for - you can add any of your cards and content to a group for fast access. We always listen to feedback and what we work on is influenced by what will make a difference to most of our customers. You can influence the direction from our community website https://yoto.space

Good when it works

My kids love it when it works, but it often doesn’t work. Even now, I’m trying to play a card from my phone. The player is playing a card, but my phone says “yoto player is offline”. You get lots of generic codes like this when the thing just doesn’t work. And customer service, while quick to respond, doesn’t have any solutions.

I also bought the card membership, and that’s been rough. You can’t pick new cards from the app, it sends you to a browser where you frequently have to resign in, and the site is clunky and awkward with some basic features missing. I will definitely not renew.

Hi B_hump - thanks for the feedback and comments. It's possible for the player to be playing content offline as it downloads your library to the player. We're committed to constantly improving the app, player and website - while it might look like some things are missing, we are a small team and we prioritise the things that have the biggest impact. We love Yoto

As a family these are excellent audio players. We have 2 minis for travelling and a full size player in the bedroom. Between the audiobooks and loading them up with music our girls start trading and listening to music independently.

We also use the full size player as a nighttime clock for our 6 year old. I would like the option to change different times for different days (even just weekday and weekend options would be great). The option to have the backlight come on automatically at night would also be great (currently you need to lay it on its face to do this, but then cants see the time).

Overall the app and the players are ace - go buy one!

Where has the yoto been all my life as a parent??

I have 4 children, 10 years old and under and we just got a yoto player 2 months ago and it’s been a part of our daily routine ever since! From the moment they wake up.. they turn on yoto daily to hear what fun and interesting things Jake has to share with us.. to listening to the radio and all their yoto cards when they are doing school work or free time.. and finally yoto sleep radio at night and that wonderful night light built in! Our only problem now is that we can’t wait for the yoto mini to come out so all of my kids can get their own player and not fight over our 1 yoto original player haha

That's great JessieBan, glad you're all loving it! Wishing you all many more hours of fun and learning with your players.

Amazing product, coming from a quality engineer!

I am a quality assurance engineer in software which means it’s my job to test software and find bugs. This makes me naturally critical of all software and I have to say that Yoto is one of the very, very few companies I am impressed by including even the giants like Microsoft. The quality of Yoto’s software, their customer responsiveness/agile engineering, their user experience design, the lack of bugs and their overall business model is really just top of the line. I absolutely love this company and their product. And my kid loves it too! This is a company I feel good about supporting!

CarPlay is buggy, and needs downloads

The new CarPlay app is a welcome addition, but it is a bit buggy - it quite often crashes / doesn’t load / doesn’t show book covers etc.
Also, the app really needs the ability to download books to be able to play them when there’s no internet signal. Driving in remote Australia recently meant we couldn’t listen to the Yoto in the car as there was no signal.
Love the Yoto and and new CarPlay, it just needs some work.

Hi jjames1000000 - thanks for your feedback. CarPlay is a new feature we released earlier this year. As with any new feature there will be some teething issues but when we do spot issues, we are always fast to fix and we release regularly with new features and improvements. We do always listen to our customers and we're committed to bringing everyone the very best app experience. We are looking to add downloads to the phone later this year to offer a better offline experience. If you need any assistance please contact us at hello@yotoplay.com

Yoto is the absolutely best

I used to own a Tonie Box but it's not even remotely closed to Yoto. I switched my kids from Tonie Box to Yoto about two years ago and it was the best decision I made. I love how affordable Yoto cards are, soooo many varieties. My sons look forward to bedtime story every night. With the Tonie box, you have to physically remove the character to stop the story, and the volume is barely there even at the max level. However, with Yoto, I can turn their stories on and off from my phone via the Yoto app. I can adjust the volume from my phone as well. And whenever I purchase a new Yoto card, it's instantaneously downloaded into the library in the Yoto app so we can listen to it right away while waiting for the physical card to come home. The cherry on top from purchasing Yoto product is their EXCEPTIONAL customer service! They are so prompt in responding and will do anything in their power to resolve your issue or concern. I HIGHLY and STRONGLY recommend Yoto!!!! I love the Yoto app, user friendly and allow you to pick a story, fast forward, pause, stop, turn volume up/down at your fingertips. Can't say enough good things about Yoto!

Wow, what a review Charmtran! Thanks so much for your comments and praise. It really means a lot to the team working on making Yoto better and better all the time.

Podcast issues

My child likes the Sleep Tight series of podcasts. However, playing podcasts from the app is painful. Instead of playing the podcast episode you select, it plays from where you last left off. Often doesn’t play at all, freezes, or makes a glitching sound from from the Yoto player. Really hopefully to see a smoother app in the future.
