It’s a grower

Yoto grow with my son. We bought it for Christmas 2020 when he was 2, and it was the best decision ever. He was too young for stories, but loves the music and phonics and learning cards. Now Christmas 2021 he enjoys some of the stories, and I can see his attention span growing. We use it at nighttime with relaxing music and nature sounds, and the customisable night to day light colour helped with bed training e.g. don’t get out of bed until it turns green. You can set this feature to whatever time suites your routines. There is sooo much material I know my Son will grow into as well. Easy to take away as all the cards are also stored on my phone. Best purchase yet!

Alarm clock setting!!! Please please please !!!

No controls for your kids listening

For such an expensive product, there are basically zero advanced controls for setting limits on your child’s listening (like time or chapter limits). The app is also impossible to navigate. Also the cost of each story is astronomical.

Cool product/concept. Customer support / QC is lacking.

A cool concept/ product! We recently bought this for our 3yr old and she loves it. From the daily podcast, to the Yoto radio stream and the ability to select from a variety of audio books, music and educational activities, she enjoys it all! The colorful cards that she can choose and insert along with the two simplistic buttons/controls offer a nice tactile touch to the device. And now the bad. Customer service/ quality control is lackluster. After ordering the player it took over two weeks to ship. No biggie. Wasn’t in a rush but was curious about production and shipping. I sent an email inquiring about shipping times and received an automated message that I should receive a response within 2 days. 4 days after my inquiry I received notice from the site that it had shipped. Then I received an email apologizing for the late response but providing me with tracking. Package arrived and it was missing one of the cards I had ordered. The sleeve for the card was present but the card was nowhere to be found. I responded to the last email sent to me to inform them of the missing card the day I received the package, 7/23. No 2 day response. I emailed again on 7/27. Crickets. Sent another follow up on 7/30 explaining that’d I’d be happy with a refund ($9 - expensive little things) . Nada. Anyways, unsure of if they plan to expand functionality of buttons on the player. Would be great to have additional push options for the right button, like sleep radio perhaps. Others have commented on the lag between app and player and so I’ll just confirm. Maybe I’ll finally get a response after dropping this review. 😊 UPDATE: Developer responded to my review apologizing for poor communication and asked that I reach out using the same email that I had been unsuccessful with in my previous attempts. So again, I thumbed a message and attached a screenshot of the developer response hoping maybe the person(s) charged with responding to customer inquiries would see it and feel compelled to respond. Nope. 🙄😒 At this point I just want the money I spent on the missing card. Guess I’ll just have to dispute the charge with my bank. Sigh.
2nd UPDATE: Looks like there was an issue with their incoming email requests. I was sent the missing card. All good. 😊

Recording is broken

The recording function to make your own playlists and cards seem to work only about a third of the time.

Thanks for the feedback. Smooth setup of your Player is our number one priority for the app, so I’d like to get to the bottom of this for you. If you haven’t already contacted our customer service team (hello@yotoplay.com), or if you have but haven’t heard back, please drop me an email to tom.b@yotoplay.com and I can help get things sorted for you.

My kids love this

My kids (3&5) love their Yoto Player! I was researching music players that is tough for young ones to handle and not as complicated as a MP3 player. Yoto was the best choice! I love that you can create your own cards, most of our cards we created ourselves which include stories and music. I’m always cautious what my kids listen to so I’m so glad they have this option to create your own cards. I’ve reached out to customer service multiple times with questions and sometimes minor bugs, each time they promptly reply to me and fixed all my issues and answered all my questions. I can see they have a dedicated team who are really passionate in what they do.

Yoto player great, App awful

Love the Yoto player, but the app is terrible.

The one thing it needs to be good at is playing and pausing audio and it fails completely at this. You would have thought that if you press the ‘stop’ button, the icon may change to a ‘play’ button, but nothing happens, so you have to be in the same room as the player to control it, otherwise you don’t know if it is playing or stopped.

A sleep timer would be useful, and an alarm clock - neither of these options exist. Not entirely sure what the app is actually for.

Response from developer

Edit: We've just released this feature to the App Store. Coming next is the sleep timer. Thanks for this insight, we understand the lack of feedback from the Player is annoying, and we are working hard with improvements - some released today, and some further improvements coming soon. At the moment controlling the Player is limited by the app not knowing when something is playing on the Player - so we can only really show a stop button. On the most recent app release (v2.24 released today) we have added haptic feedback (little vibrations that help indicate buttons have been pushed) so you will know when a play or stop command has been made. This helps quite a lot, but it’s not the end of the story. We are also working on creating a link between the app and the Player, at which point you will be able to see and control what is playing on the Player from the app. (Then we are doing a sleep timer and alarm…). Please do keep the feedback coming, it’s what drives us forward and helps us prioritise new features and improvements.

Great Toy

Love the Yoto Player! I have a 5 and 3 year old, they both love it. Really easy to use. The app is great too because you can play cards if you don’t have the yoto player with you. Amazing for car rides!

Brilliant player and app

Brilliant app and player. My 2 year old easily manages to use the player and can turn the radio on/off, select tracks etc. It’s extremely resilient (it’s been thrown 2m in the air far too many times by a tantruming toddler and is somehow still working just fine! The app is brilliant for controlling the player remotely.

Response from developer

Thanks for this feedback, and great to hear you are enjoying your Yoto Player. This issue with card linking on smaller phones is now fixed. It came about as we made some unrelated changes to the app to bring in new features that allow content to be played directly from a phone, with no Yoto Player needed. Basically, something new ended up getting in the way of the existing link button! We will try to be a bit more careful when we add new stuff in future, as there are a lot of great new features coming!
