Refreshing as a cold shower

Coming from learning languages as a hobby, I was surprised and excited when I discovered an app that focused more on the writing than speech. My memory was bogged down by strokes and slashes; There was something missing in my own methods, something that Scripts provided. For five minutes a day you can learn to your hearts content- truly a masterstroke in design, when time is so readily discarded by distractions and engagements. I recommend this app to anyone looking for a new way to learn a language, but don’t have enough time in the day to sit down and learn one. You won’t be disappointed.

Hi, Thanks for giving a try to Scripts, we're happy to hear you like it! The 5 stars are much appreciated! :)

This App Rocks!

I’m an 11 year old girl who has just enrolled in a Mandarin language program. I barely knew any of Mandarin, but I was able to pick up several words during class. One of the hardest parts for me was writing characters! This app traces you along, stroke order, and helps you memorize the characters using simple doodles!
If you need character help, this app is perfect for you!

Useful with potential to be even better...

I mostly use Drops for scripts/alphabets anyway, so this app is great for me! There are a couple of issues:

So far it’s seemed a little slow to load diagrams etc., which is a problem when you only have five minutes.

Also I am having an issue present in Drops as well, which is that each character(/word) is repeated again and again before moving on. This could be by design, and might work for some people, but I would prefer that each new character be added into the “pool” of learned characters and that this would then alternate/cycle, rather that working on one character for a block of ten-ish rounds at a time (however, someone else using the Drops app has told me they don’t have this issue, so it could in theory just be my device?).

I would also love to see more rounds where there is no visual prompt (i.e. the character displayed at the top, or arrows directing your strokes) scattered through the cycle, to act as “tests” of your memorisation—otherwise, it’s easy to rely on those prompts!

Either way, I really like the concept and the general structure of having writing practice integrated into the memorisation process, and I hope to see more scripts added soon! :D

Hi, Thanks for playing both Scripts and Drops, and sharing your thoughts with us! We constantly work hard on improving and expanding the app and the content, so please stay tuned! Keep playing and let us know if there’s anything else you would suggest us to refine!

Good app.. but mandarin not free?

I downloaded this app thinking “oh! It’ll be fun to learn some Chinese out of class.. and the way Duolingo does it is getting a bit boring..” I’m learning Mandarin in class, and I was like “what? There’s no Mandarin?” I did my first five minute session and it told me what man was and I’m like “no man is nan but whatever I’ll let it slide” and then I checked.. you had to pay to get mandarin. I would honestly rather get ads. Like a lot of em. I prefer most of your content being free. I can stand ads. I can’t stand certain and valuable content not being free. I’m deleting this, but I’m hoping if you are reading this and wanting to learn Mandarin, i’m just gonna say that Duolingo is probably a better option unless you feel like paying. 再见!

Playing this to learn how to speak and write in Chinese

Downloaded this because my boyfriend is Chinese, so I thought maybe I could give it a try. When we tried it he thought it was very cute, fun, and actually a bit annoying as it is repetitive. But what does he know, he’s known these words all his life but not me!! I find it really nice, and the interface is great. Keep it up!!!

Amazing :3

This app is amazing
It’s created by drops which is a language learning app (please get it if you’re learning a language). It has really helped me with learning Japanese and I think it works much better with Drops.

Hi Yawaraki, Thanks for playing both Drops and Scripts, and giving us 5 stars, we really appreciate it! :)

good concept but has a few bugs

I love the Drops app, I’ve been using it to learn Cantonese, so I was excited to see this app roll out. However, I noticed a few issues right away: firstly, the pronunciations for the Hanzi characters are only Mandarin, which makes it hard to correlate with what I’m learning on the other app. Secondly, there are some issues with screen sensitivity. I’m on an iPhone SE, and maybe it’s not optimized for the small screen, but it won’t let me tap all the character parts at the bottom, and some other buttons also seem to not work. Would love to see these issues addressed, and then I would definitely use this app.
