  • Downhill since update

This was a great free VPN , used it for years. but updated about six months ago, it stopped giving option to select country, & the server they select is used by millions, so most browsers just block . Also kill switch randomly don’t work, and the whole VPN has become unreliable & untrustworthy as it has a mind of its own.
I suppose it’s to get people to upgrade to paid version. Thing is , the old VPN free version was great especially for free, the best free VPN
Unfortunately the paid version is expensive & not that good, especially for the money, limited servers, none l think RAM servers, Proton only uses a handful of servers around the world
And it’s double plus the price of NORD VPN ,which if your paying is a big deal. It was great while it lasted as a free unlimited version, but expensive paid version falls well short of opposition in every way. Especially for the price which is eye watering

    Developer Response

We're sorry to see that you're dissatisfied with our service. With the Free plan changes, we aim to provide optimal speeds and latency to everyone using our free, unlimited, ad-free VPN. That said, although you can't select a specific server as a free user, you can change the server that was initially assigned to you. As for the issue with the kill switch, could you share some more details? Contact us using the 'Report an issue' option in the app menu so we can investigate the behavior. Lastly, we run our servers in ROM, and not in RAM. However, the hard drive is encrypted, so if the power goes down, it is not possible to read the contents of the disk without the key which is not stored on the server itself and does not contain sensitive data (https://protonvpn.com/blog/ram-only-servers).
  • Proton Unlimited 5 Stars

I have had Proton Unlimited for several years, worked well, I was very happy with it. My current Proton Unlimited subscription does not expire until mid-December 2024. Suddenly, last week my Proton Unlimited VPN stopped working. Internet access through Proton Unlimited VPN stopped working. I am using the same iOS device I’ve used for a year or two. I know how to use the App and the device. I am in the USA. Over several days, I received several Proton error messages, saying “Proton Unlimited Unavailable” and saying “Access Token Does Not Have Sufficient Scope”. I reported it to Proton via the App, including logs and narrative and later, screen shots. After that, and some questions, Tristan came through with a solution. I followed his instructions, and everything is working, again. I admit, I was upset for several days, but was finally pleased when Tristan gave me good advice (uninstall at about 3 points, reinstall, etc.) that restored my Proton VPN. Thank you, Tristan. You have restored my faith in Proton VPN. Thank you.

  • Finally, a reliable VPN

I bought a two year subscription with another VPN last year but it has been so troublesome, to the point that their support no longer reply to my bug reports. I cancelled my account with 7 months remaining last night as I could not stand it anymore. Saw a brief plug for this VPN on someone’s tech page on YT. Went onto Proton’s site and downloaded the free single device for my Windows Laptop. It was so easy to download, install and configure. Left the settings as default and used the Quick Connection to one of the free servers. I immediately liked the design of the interface. Nicely laid out and a very nice touch on the World map to show where you are connected. So, after using it on my Windows Laptop for almost 24hrs, where it automatically run the interface on startup and automatically connected to the Internet, where my former VPN consistently failed to auto connect. I knew this was my VPN replacement. I Initially bought the €1 package to try out and installed it on my MacBook, iPhone and iPad. Played around with it for half an hour, counting the amount of ads it had blocked and connecting to various High Speed servers around the World. After half an hour, I decided to buy a 12-month Plus Plan. This is a remarkable VPN Software and my only regret, is that I didn’t come across this last year. Would I recommend this? Oh Yes :)
