Awesome app with lots of features, and lots of issues

Overall, this is great weather app, with lots more than just radar. RadarOmega has things RadarScope doesn’t, like manual storm tracking, live webcams, volumetric 3D radar, tropical weather tracking, model data, and more. RapidSweep is a welcome addition with the latest update, which allows you to see the radar scan in near real-time. But the app is laggy, especially when viewing volumetric 3D radar. Even with the latest hardware I found this feature almost unusable. Even doing the most basic thing (like viewing the radar) the app frequently refreshes. One second you’re looking at the radar and the next you’re looking at a black screen, then the map layers and data start to populate. There’s also little UI annoyances like there being two county lines overlays on top of each other that don’t line up. The menu is ugly and difficult to navigate; it just doesn’t look polished. I really WANT to like RadarOmega, and I will continue to use the app for those moments when I want to track a hurricane or view the latest model runs on the go, but for an everyday, reliable, stable radar app I’m sticking to RadarScope…for now.

Very good radar, but one problem…

I bought this app recently and to say it’s changed the way I forecast is an understatement. One issue with the app is that it doesn’t recognise certain Australian radar locations and weather stations, regardless of if they’re operating or not. Another problem is the hit and miss features, some of which are only available in the US and Germany, which excludes Australia. I can’t set my location to Australia and multiple features have stayed imperial when I switched to metric to suit my forecasts. It’s still a great switch, but I wish some of the easily fixable problems didn’t exist in the first place.

Now, a more recent and disappointing issue involves most radars (using my local AMEL as an example), the $14.99 software shows a broken mess while the public and FREE data from the Bureau of Meteorology shows a complete image. Quite disappointing really.

Better than radar scope!

I used to use radar scope but when I found this app I started using it instead of radar scope. This app provides access to all the features that require a subscription to use in radar scope all for free such as storm reports and watches and mesoscale discussions. After the latest update the app seems to be lagging a lot and I’m not sure if it’s my phone or the app that is causing the lag problem. Other than the lag problem this app provides the best set of weather tools and is much better than radar scope so I don’t understand why so many people are hating on this app.

Response from developer

We're thrilled to hear you're enjoying the new 4.0 update and have noticed the huge performance and quality update that came with it. If you have any questions/concerns in the future, please feel free to email us. support@stormmapping.com

Not worth the $12

No Canadian alerts and the add on subscriptions just make this a money grab. There are a lot of other better free weather radar apps like Windy that provide helpful information without having to pay a subscription to get. Save your money.

Warning: Product Review

I have been watching Max Velocity on YT who uses this software for their warnings and I was very interested in what it offered and so, I downloaded it. For the base map and features within this app, it is amazing of what it offers for this small one-off cost. Yes, that’s right, a one-off cost and no need for subscription if you prefer the basics of reflectivity, warnings etc. Also, this basic app includes: Live Webcam viewing from those running a webcam, individual radar sites to show reflectivity, so you can identify hail, rain, possible Tornadoes etc. There is a minor bug in the software for the audible Warnings that support are aware of. I emailed them and they responded within 24hrs. Now, that’s an excellent service. I really like this software. However, be mindfull, this is great on your iPad or iPhone as a base product. Now, if you would like an iOS Desktop version, there is no app for your MacBook, you would need to purchase at least, the minimum monthly/annual renewal subscription package within your iPad/iPhone device app as they have created a separate Mac O/S version. I purchased an Annual Gamma subscription, which gives me a fair amount of additional data, various maps, including looking down Satellite map of clouds, water vapour etc and best of all, you can run this software across all your desktop systems, regardless if it’s a fruit or Winblows. You might say, “I’m paying twice for the same software”. Initially, I thought that, until you see all the additional data you get even with the minimum subscription. Would I recommend this? Most certainly and worthy of 5 Stars.

Top Notch Radar!

I’ve had this app for less than a week, and it’s already MUCH better than RScope. As someone interested in the weather, I’m definitely getting my moneys worth from Radar Omega. Amazing! 😎

One small issue though: I turned on storm alerts, as well as the chime/alarm sounds for severe storm warnings and tornado warnings, and yet I can’t hear the sounds for the warnings when a new one pops up, even though they’re turned on. Must be a glitch I guess. I even made sure notifications in Settings were on, and still no chime sound.

The flashing part of the alert works, but the chime/alarm sound doesn’t. But still, an amazing app! 🌩️ 🌪️ 🌀 ❄️ ☀️ 🌬️

It’s a great app for the US.

I wish this radar showed the UK,

We’ve had a significant tornadoes recently here, and we don’t have any warning system in place for tornados. Tornado’s in the UK are rare but they do happen. On the 2rd november this year (2023) a tornado destroyed houses. We don’t have sirens, phone alerts or live warnings on what’s happening. We just get a tornado watch.

Super legit

Best radar app on the market. Period. And that’s with or without a subscription. You just have to take the time initially to go through and learn about all the features/customization options. The wealth of data that this app provides (all in one place) is unparalleled. And the UI, which has been the app’s Achilles’ heel in the past, has improved markedly. If you’re an everyday person that just wants to know if it will be sunny or not tomorrow, this app is probably not for you. But for weather enthusiasts or professionals, I highly recommend it. Best $9 I’ve ever spent.
