1.4.3

October 23, 2023

This release marks an exceptional round #2 of "low-tone bug" resolutions. I fixed the following two additional cases of the "low-tone" bug making an unwelcome appearance: #1. Travis informed me of the case on iPads where the low tone appeared in "Slide Over" mode when using Gap Click together with another app that produces audio. #2. The low-tone bug also appeared on iPhones when switching from an app that produces audio back to Gap Click. In both cases, the click now starts as expected with your anticipated selected click sound. It turns out the "low-tone bug" is not just a single bug but a symptom of an underlying issue when audio is unexpectedly interrupted by something else. If you encounter any other instances of this bug, please let me know so I can address them. Together, we'll squash them all! It's like a bad Halloween nightmare for me, lol. A big thanks again to our considerate users who helped us improve the app, this time Travis, who sent a video demonstrating how to reproduce the issue! We're always eager to hear your thoughts on this release. Please continue sending your feedback to us from within the app under Settings > Contact Support. I respond to every message personally and promptly to provide you with the best customer service possible. Thank you for your continued support!

Description of Gap Click by Benny Greb

Benny Greb, well known for his contributions to the drumming education community, shared the approach he has taken to develop his sense of groove and improve his timing on his instrument in his course "The Art and Science of Groove." Now with the Gap Click app, everyone can practice his method easily using this intuitive app! Unlike standard metronomes, which only provide time, Gap Click helps you improve your sense of time. Gap Click is more than a metronome that focuses on improving your ability to keep tempo, become more aware and comfortable with off-beat clicks, and become bulletproof and accurate with all notes of the subdivision. GAP CLICK By scrolling through the numbers of bars and patterns, you can quickly configure a "gap" of time in which the metronome drops out. When the "one" comes back around, will your playing still be in time? How long of a gap can you play through and still maintain a solid tempo? MOVING CLICK Next, you can experiment with all kinds of off-beat patterns in the Gap Bar, which moves the click from the downbeat position to a different location. Can you still play your instrument and maintain the downbeat internally even when you hear the click sound on an off-beat? Both the "click" and the "gap" portion supports various syncopated patterns, allowing you to practice in binary or ternary rhythms - with more or less safety depending on your settings. Features • Ability to choose from various syncopated patterns and the number of measures for both the standard "click" and the "gap." • Use the nostalgic click wheel to find the right tempo or tap to set your desired tempo from 10 to 300bpm • Standard quarter-note time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4 • Support for VoiceOver ensures Gap Click is fully accessible to users with visual impairments Personalize • See visual feedback for each note or rest that the metronome plays • Accent beat 1 of each measure or turn accents off for a more significant challenge • Flash the screen for a visual indication when switching between the "click" and the "gap" sections • Find your favorite sound from a variety of click samples hand-picked by Benny Buy Once, Use Forever • There are no In-App Purchases - a one-time purchase includes all current and future features. TESTIMONIALS What professionals are saying about GAP CLICK: • "The skills you can sharpen by using this app are integral for what it takes to be a professional drummer in any genre." - Matt Halpern • "When I first opened the app, it made (simple) sense, without a tutorial." - Chris Coleman • "This app helps you lock in the pocket on a whole different level." - Luke Holland • "The Gap Click app is something that every drummer should have in their toolbox." - Jared Falk, Drumeo What our users are saying about GAP CLICK: • "If you think you have good timing, this will really put you in your place." • "Gone are the days of programming gap clicks!" • "I've never had so much fun being destroyed in my practice session." • "This is by far the best money I've ever spent on a practice tool." Reviews of Gap Click by Benny Greb

  • Unique tool for improving time

Clever, simple, innovative metronome! It’s already helping a lot with my macro- and micro-time.

    Requests:

    1. Haptic feedback on the scroll wheel, so you can feel the response and can tell if you missed the wheel.

    2. The play / pause button in the middle needs a larger hit area. I’ve missed it several times.

    3. I wish there was a bit more versatility. Namely being able to do some off-beat clicks followed by gap measures.

I’d like to do things like
    - lead in
    Then a pattern of
    - 2 measures of off-beat
    - 2 measures of gap

    Or even a pattern of:
    - measures of regular clicks
    - measures of off-beat clicks
    - measures of gap

    4. I wish I had a bar of lead-in. I find myself trying to the “play” the play button with the first note of the pattern, which is awkward.

    5. The pitch of the off-beat pulses is identical to that of the “main” measures. This makes it hard to know where we are and get back on track. I wish I could give the off-beats a different pitch, so I could “hear” the blue versus the green modes.

    Developer Response

Hi Puh22, Thank you so much for your excellent review! I'm thrilled that the app has helped improve your time. We read and consider all of your valuable feedback and suggestions. I've shared all of your enhancement requests with Benny, and he's keen on exploring ways to enhance the app's functionality while maintaining its simplicity and intuitiveness. Your ideas for haptic feedback, a larger hit area for the play/pause button, additional pattern configuration options, a count-in, and differentiated sound for off-beat pulses are fantastic! Benny carefully considers each suggestion as he plans future updates for the app. We appreciate your continued support of Gap Click. If you have more thoughts or ideas, please contact me directly from the app under the Settings screen -> Contact Support. We want to ensure that Gap Click continues to be a valuable tool for your musical journey. Stay tuned for future updates and improvements as we work to improve Gap Click based on user feedback. I'd also be happy to contact you directly to let you know if any of these enhancements are released in the future. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore my other apps, which you might also find helpful for your musical development! Thank you once again for being a part of the Gap Click community. Wishing you all the best in your musical endeavors! Warm regards, Derek
  • Instant benefit

While this may not have the bells and whistles of a really nice metronome, this thing is still an amazing tool.

I saw instant improvement in my soloing and fills and just timekeeping in genera…. after a few practice sessions. it has proven itself to be an Absolutely essential practice tool going forward
  • Critique

I enjoy the app, but I feel that it has a lot of holes. If I have the metronome, in 4/4 time, play a measure of quarter notes, then leave 3 measures of rest it ends up dropping some beats in the measure that the click plays; it might play … 2 3 4 or 1 2 3 … adding a beat of silence when there should be a click. When it comes to options I feel like it should a greater range for tempo, it should go up to 400, it’s not necessary since no one needs quarters going and 400, half notes would be better, but it would be expected for the app to have a large range of tempos instead having to use, for example, 200bpm to imply half notes at 400bpm. Also when using a speaker it sometimes just plays a low drone, making restart the app until it functions properly.
