Yet another platform that tells you what to watch
I love many of the creators. The app itself is well-written. The problem? The algorithm.
It’s bad enough that the Home tab is full of stuff they want you to watch, rather than anything you yourself have chosen.
Fine. I’ll tap the Library tab EVERY TIME I USE THE APP. But then it just shows one row of the latest episodes you want to see. Tap again to see a vertical list. So now two taps just to get to what you wanted.
But, oh, that’s not enough! No, now they shove Dracula’s Ex-Girlfriend in *your library* even though you never selected it. AND YOU CANNOT REMOVE IT OR HIDE IT. It is there forever, like the time Apple shoved that U2 album down everybody’s throat. Ugh.
“But you’re used to this: Facebook and Instagram and Twitter/X and TikTok all do this!”, they say. Ah, true, but I PAY FOR NEBULA. I don’t pay for those. I am the customer if I pay for it. Aren’t I? I guess not.
But wait, there’s more. If you just accept the default Home tab, then it invariably shows you lots of war (“Modern Conflict”) and total Climate destruction (“Jet Lag The Game” and “The Getaway”). What could be more fun than killing people and flying and driving hundreds or thousands of miles —for a game. Completely tone deaf.

Changing library behaviour
Channels that I’m not even following have been showing up in my “Library”. It’s polluting my list of otherwise well curated channels. So disappointed.parallellaurent

Just premium
I don’t think that I need to pay to use the app literally I get it for the ad free part but there’s no free part where you can’t skip ads I’m only saying this because not everyone can afford it sure it’s cheep but what if I don’t want something premium but you have no choice to join you need to subscribe to someone and that needs money I pay for other things like YouTube premium or whatever else app has premiumShow lessNickel h case
Great Content, Difficult Platform
I love the concept of Nebula as a service, I enjoy the output of most of the creators and think the exclusive content on offer is very worthwhile. I want to love Nebula as a platform that empowers its creators and can give the audience more, but the issues I’ve run into with the app have made it difficult to consistently enjoy. The primary source of my issues has been with the podcast feature of the app, as I will often be listening to a podcast before it stops for a couple of minutes for seemingly no reason. Even me closing and reopening the app won’t get the podcast going again which ends up just causing me to use another app for podcasts while I drive or work. Sometimes I’ll download podcast episodes since I do a lot of traveling, only for me to open the app before my flight to find out all of my downloads have disappeared (despite me making sure they were downloaded the night before). The inconsistency with the podcast functions has been frustrating to say the least, as it has been easier to just listen to the content elsewhere than continue to engage with an app I desperately want to enjoy using.Show lessrevan H.

Maybe an algorithm isn’t a bad thing :)
Nebula creators love to talk about how this platform doesn’t have an algorithm! They’re not here to force you to watch something you don’t want to watch. Except… that’s what they end up doing. This platform refuses to keep track of what you’re watching, and if it’s one singular channel, it will NEVER have that channel available - instead you see the mid video other mid creators have put out. Halfway through a podcast episode? The home page will not remember, you have to search it up and find the episode again. Have you been keeping up with a series that is probably a decent chunk of their viewership, and it’s the final? They don’t care, it won’t be on the home page. Cannot update app
I cannot use the app without updating to the newest version. I can’t update the newest version of the app because I don’t have the latest iOS. I can’t install the latest iOS because my phone hardware doesn’t support it. The obvious solution is to get a new phone, which I can’t afford and also don’t want to do out of principle (planned obsolescence etc). I’ll keep watching Nebula in the browser for as long as I can but I’m done with the app for now.Show lesseirene123
Enjoy the service
The service is great, and I enjoy the ad-free experience with exclusive videos from some of my favourite video-creators.
Not sure if this is a bug or a me issue, but I find the app erases my downloaded videos after a few days…Aarticuno
