Description of Reddcrypt

Too complicated, too elaborate, uncomfortable to handle – The reasons for not using S/MIME or PGP are diverse. With REDDCRYPT these arguments are a thing of the past as everyone is capable of encrypting their email communication from now on. With the REDDCRYPT app for smartphones and tablets, even when you´re on the go. With REDDCRYPT we pursue the goal to make the world a little more secure. That is why we offer email encryption for everyone, both companies and single users. Our main focus is the best possible user comfort without cuts to security. At a glance: • You can continue to use your existing e-mail address • End-to-end encryption • Zero knowledge encryption • Easiest handling • 100% made in Germany • German servers This is how REDDCRYPT works: REDDCRYPT automatically encrypts your emails on your device before they are being send. Thus, your emails and their contents remain private. This way you can securely send sensitive information via email. You authenticate yourself on the REDDRYPT app with your email address and a password. A key pair comprising of public key and private key is automatically generated. Your private key is then encrypted with a password hash and uploaded to our servers together with your public key. Sounds too complicated? Don’t worry as most of this happens in the background. You only need to enter your email address and choose a password to generate the key pair. Writing an email happens locally on your device. Why is this important you may ask? Because only you can read the contents of the email as the process happens locally. Before sending the email it is automatically encrypted on your device. If the recipient is also a REDDCRYPT user, the encryption takes place with the public key of the recipient. This means that you don’t have to take action, as everything happens automatically in the background. If the recipient is not a user of REDDCRYPT yet, you will have to define a passphrase for this first mail with which the recipient can decrypt the mail. To make sure that only the intended recipient can read your email. you can disclose this passphrase to the recipient e.g. via sms or phone call. To be able to read the email the recipient authenticates on the REDDCRYPT app, as well. If he already has access and the email has been encrypted with this public key, then the recipient can open, read and answer your mail right away. If he didn’t have access yet, he will have to generate his own key pair to through his email address and a chosen password. Afterwards he can see your encrypted email which can be encrypted by entering the passphrase you have disclosed to the recipient earlier (e.g. via sms or phone call). This passphrase is only necessary for the decryption of the first email. With every email that comes afterwards the encryption and decryption process takes places automatically in the background. Highest user comfort and highest security – this is REDDCRYPT.

  • So far very very good but I’m always cautious

I came across this app while browsing and so far having read their web data it seems ok and legit however I’m still cautious as many apps advertise however don’t give what the advertise.

Pros - I tested the site via SSLLabs and they received an A to A+ rating which I was happy with. 👍🏿

Based in Germany which has some of the most robust privacy laws in EU. 👍🏿

Zero knowledge (advertised) which is very good 👍🏿

    Free - for now 👍🏿

Very User friendly, easy to navigate, no crashes so far 👍🏿

    Smooth interface 👍🏿

Was able to use it along with other “popular secure encrypted” EU based email providers/carriers which (let me say in my ignorant logic and yes I know lol ) should add another layer of encryption/security. 👍🏿

    Prompt polite Customer support 👍🏿👍🏿

Cons (only one) no integrated iOS security - fingerprint/facial recognition. I’d prefer this as it can add an extra level of security however I’m guessing the developers have their reasons for leaving this feature out or are working on it.👎🏿

Hopefully the developers won’t disappoint but all in all a very very good app and if it is what is advertised, I will definitely use it now as main email carrier.
