  • Looks great, lacks the depth of Polytopia

I want to give Hexonia 5 stars. It looks like a real winner. But spend some time with the game and you will see that it is missing the important balance and synergy elements that made Polytopia so good. For example, if you research boats, every unit can sail as a ship just by moving into the water, no ports needed. Synergy buildings like windmills that must be placed by farms don’t get adjacency bonus for being by 2 or more farms. Similarly, you can’t place a windmill in one city’s borders next to another city’s farm. The maps are full of barren spaces so many towns can never get more than one or two tiers larger. And can we talk about cheese just lying on the ground in the desert? Or how the music is such a short loop that it’s more annoying than enjoyable.

Sorry but I can’t go more than 3 stars here. Still feels like a beta-test to me. I want to like it but I just can’t yet in its current state.

  • Very fun

Very fun game. Simple but engaging, and encourages strategy and planning. The full experience however, is locked behind DLCs. The most you can do is play a medium map against 2 other tribes.

Make me pay upfront for the full game instead of hiding it behind DLCs where I can’t trust that I’ll be able to get future content updates without purchasing more. The way the content is locked makes my future experience with the game feel insecure.

Civ V is a similar game (albeit much more expansive and in-depth), and it charges for DLC that simply unlock more civilizations you can play as. It doesn’t lock difficulty levels and map sizes behind these DLCs. It is a complete experience you can trust when you purchase the game.

Again, I’d rather pay upfront for the whole game experience, and THEN be able to unlock tribes if I want to. It’s a shame because this game is such a nice game to just be able to pull out and play a bit, then resume later (or finish if you have the time).

I’d still recommend trying it out just for the bit of fun you can have before you hit the content wall. Who knows, maybe you’ll feel differently and end up buying more tribes.

  • Great and entertaining

I downloaded this thinking it was going to be a bad game, but I as soon as I started playing it liked it. I like the how the characters look and how you can zoom up close! I like how each tribe has their own guardian, I also can wait for future tribes. Im looking forward to buying some of the tribes actually too. Ive spent hours playing this and defeating the other tribes and it super cool. It would be cool if your playing like against 4 tribes to have an option to ally with another tribe, I was playing on rookie and against 2 other tribes; they both pushed me and didn’t even attack each other, they just focused on me. Also I barely started the game and I think I was in turn 6 when they started appearing and pushing in on me. Other than that great game and would be great if you could add that Allie feature it would make the game more entertaining!

  • Amazing game!! Seriously

Hexonia has been my go to game since I downloaded a month or two ago. I love the concept and the graphics are awesome. I always play the all girl tribe. I try to increase my city level right away to get the Guardian spider. I am having fun trying to decide what works best to start either increasing my tribe or increasing my sight. Anyhow, thanks for such a fun and challenging game I don’t even mind that we are paying for the other tribe choices. I hope people enjoy this game like I have.

  • Pretty good start but horrible monitization

First of all I love the gameplay I like the aesthetic of the hexagons it makes it look good and the fighting is pretty cool with balancing just having a ton of units with upgrading your stuff to get better units I find the games are to short which is a problem, there needs to be a bit more then just fighting I’m not saying full on civilization but maybe a chance to ally with one tribe to defeat another tribe or something like that also thier needs to be more stuff available for free to play people 3 tribes arnt enough there needs to be more tribes unlockable and even if not to play as at least to fight to have bigger maps or maybe you just want to have a big map for only 2 tribes it should be your choice forcing you to pay for half the tribes just feels bad for the player also people compare this game to Polytopia but I think this game could be way better then that if it just had better monitization IE maybe have more adds to make money and let us have free multiplayer something like that could realy set this game apart and make it a realy good 5 star game

  • It’s kinda alright

I mean it’s a decent game, but hardly any city building aspects, resources are scarce so not doing much improvements on your lands which is a bummer. I never once saw a forest. Maps are so small it just underwhelming. The other tribes are expansive when polytopia has some $1 tribes. I like the look but you can’t base a game on looks. I do like the units tho. They are creative and the tribes look cool but there are some op tribes from the looks. I just cannot enjoy the game like I enjoy polytopia, it’s missing city building aspects that are key in my opinion. It just doesn’t live up in some parts and falls flat in others. It’s a alright game - 5/10

  • Room for improvement

I think this game is still more of a concept rather then a finished game for instance once the Ai has knights it spams them making it almost impossible to do a normal attack and in most cases ruins the game I think this could be fixed with toning down the aggressiveness of the Ai or just putting a hard cap on how many knights you can have at any single time. The research could also use some work some of it still confuses me if I haven’t played in a while. Overall not the best game but I will continue to enjoy it I hope to see more updates in the future!

  • TheHenryWoo

Hexonia is a awesome game, especially during my morning school bus rides. The first flaw in the game for me is that the free-to-play tribes become boring to dominate others with, and the only way to get more is by using real life currency. Another flaw in the game is that the first few games manage to entertain me, but after that the game becomes repetitive. There simply isn’t enough in the game. Therefore, my hope is that the game progresses through updates and allows non-money-spenders like me to have more access to tribes and abilities.

  • This game needs more than a 3.5 rating!!!

I don’t usually write reviews but I have too for this game. It is a great way to spend time and very addictive. It’s nice that you can leave the game when ever you want and join back in with all your progress. I was expecting something ok when getting this but it’s is a lot better than I expected. There is no multiplayer though. That’s my only problem. I thought there would be multiplayer when downloading but I enjoyed the game anyways.

  • Nicely done!

Well made game overall. I have little to no complaints. Many people say the map size is too small but given that this game is relatively new, I’d say it works well. The only real critique is maybe make it possible to unlock other races aside from paying? Similar to how you can unlock the first 3 races through achievements maybe unlock the other races though achievements too? Definitely would recommend to at least try. Very captivating for me.
