Description of Kase

Kase exists because it should. There should be a database app that can go anywhere with you. It should be: • Simple — so using it should be easy and intuitive, • Flexible — so once familiar with the basics, you can design any database to track anything important to you, and • Relational — because you don't want to repeat yourself, and inter-linked data becomes an order of magnitude more useful. Additionally, it should be: • Personal — because you should not need to worry about who can peek into your data, and • Always Available — because high-speed wireless network connection should *not* be a prerequisite for accessing your own data. Something like that didn't exist, so I started creating Kase in 2014. Kase is all that. It is not perfect, but it does its job well. Basic Concepts: • Your Kase contains Boxes; • a Box holds related Decks; • a Deck collects Cards; • and a Card is where you put on data entries. Additional Details: • Box can be locked with a passcode, and unlocked with Face ID or Touch ID. • Deck definitions support inheritance! • Pick and organize Decks and Cards with categories, tags, and bookmarks. • Highlight any box, deck, card, entry, or keyword. • Write in Markdown and see rich formatted text. • Use Formatters (Fx), Units to visualize data in different ways without altering the data one bit. • Full text indexing with NLP. • Side-by-Side: Compare Cards easily by displaying in columns. • iPad Multitasking support: Split View, Slide Over, etc. Kase is Not: • Cloud syncing yet (stay tuned...) WISD: • Data ▹ Information ▹ Knowledge ▹ Insight ▹ Wisdom By now you should realize how valuable data is. So why give yours away? Kase keeps your data yours. See wisd.com/kase for more info.

Reviews of Kase

It is ok

Once inheritance is established, it can’t be changed. Cards can’t move from one deck to the next or copied from one deck to the next so if you are using it to store the places of items then you can’t change the place without erasing the card and then creating it anew in a new spot. Cards can only be copied into the same deck that they are currently in...if I have movies on one shelf then I want to move it to another shelf, I have to erase a whole card with all of its information (including notes, tags, and category) and create another card entering that same information all over again....

Has Great Potential

Whereas this database App has great potential for displaying, filtering and sorting entered data, there are only two fields available, text and link. Certainly the link field helps in reducing data entry by creating relationships between decks (tables), but what I feel is sadly missing at the very least are numeric, and the ability to execute simple calculations, choice (combo boxes/pick lists), date and/or time, check box (yes/no) fields.
However to help the user and to an extent overcome the aforesaid shortfall, Integral of each new deck (table) and each card (record) the designer has added a selectable tag, picture, bookmark and note fields which help dramatically in filtering/sorting the data into groups/categories for viewing.
I have had limited success in importing csv files and have yet to establish a means to export data other than backup.
The added use of colour, good search functionality and a clever card (record) side by side view, plus user App configurable makes Kase 3 well worth considering should you want an easy to use database solution then I would recommend same.
