Forced to download maps; only one region at a time on free
Really frustrating that we cannot look at the maps even when connected to internet, unless we download the region. When working on a road trip plan, you have to un-download one state in order to download another state unless you upgrade to pro. Makes the app basically un-usable without pro, and forces you to take up device storage to use the map even if you have internet connection. Really dumb. The old app would be basically perfect as is if you could just filter amenities and save favorites.Worse than the original
This is way worse than the original. You can have the map from 1 state for free than you have to pay a very bloated annual fee to get the rest. Not worth it. I will use the old one until it is not supported while moving the data over to google maps. But I am not going to pay $100 per year to find our where water is especially since this is community gathered information and the developers are not sourcing the info.Developer Response
Yes, adding points is a big part of our app, and we are grateful for the contributions and made sure that our top contributors all have free upgrades! But the time and costs related to maintaining and developing our app and website, not to mention moderating and cleaning our database, greatly exceeds the time and effort to add checkins and places. We had no choice but to offer a paid subscription in order to sustain our app and keep the infrastructure running.Deleting app after 5 years of use
This was always my go to map for my roadtrips around the US. I’ve depended on this app for finding safe places to camp and sleep over night. This new update is insane. I should have read the reviews before clicking update 😭 right before I travel across the US from TX to MT. What a shame. The fact that you can only download one map at a time without them charging Netflix prices. Ugh.Developer Response
Thank you for your feedback. The decision to offer a paid subscription was out of necessity to sustain iOverlander. We wish we could remain completely free forever, but after 10 years of attempting to run iOverlander that way, we know it is not possible. Our original app is still free and without ads, we will keep it available as long as possible.
