  • Love this wonderful app!

OctopusWatch just keeps getting better and better! I recommend this app to all my customers and through;y recommend a subscription to get the most out of it. Updated frequently and always bringing new features. I’m honestly not sure what I ever would have done without it!
  • Worked flawlessly up to today

Really useful for tracking my spend on a day to day basis. Just upgraded to version 5 today. Was showing as flux import and export in previous version. Now shows flux import and fixed export. Looks like a labelling thing though because all the rate calculations and daily rates are all showing as the flux ones for import and export. Hopefully just a bug. Nice new graphing features though thanks for the update.

Don’t write reviews for support. Reviews are reviewed by Apple, and then my reply needs to be reviewed by Apple, often leading to multi-day turnaround. Others already got in touch relating to this issue and the update (5.0.1) to fix the issue with the export label is already out for a few days by the time you’ll likely get this reply.
  • Well I’m Not surprised this is so high in the charts…

Fantastic app well laid out provides information in a clear user-friendly way with fantastic explanations and a brilliant wiki to explain everything. The app works really well on both the iPhone and the watch.

I’ve looked at and tried other apps to manage my Octopus agile account and this is by far the most informative and easy to use it’s clear and provide data that regularly updates and is both informative and useful to manage energy usage.

It’s great how it shows you how much you’re saving.

Support is unbelievable I asked a question on a Sunday night and had a response immediately. Helpful support and really interested in my question and answered it brilliantly. This is clearly software that is being well supported with genuine care. Was so impressed I immediately went for the subscription model which I think is a fair price for what you get.

Overall very happy with this software works well on both iPhone and watch. Thank you

  • Hmmm….

Nice little app, and didn’t mind paying £1.99 for its basic content, I hesitated at subscription until I understood the content Within 48 hours I started to identify a few basic features missing, whilst I’m sure there will be development going on, the fact that I was not able to enter my Octopus kw price in the app to give the relative savings was a bit annoying ( I was on fixed ) which was not the default kw price the savings were relating to

And is the average kw price’ you have paid for that days electricity 🤔 , correct ? , there is a figure at the end of the column but it doesn’t appear to tie up with the kw used and the price paid on the day

And why is there no way of contacting the developer ? Have I missed something again ?

I’m right here, and you can always reach out at contact@smarthound.uk as outlined on the product and the wiki. You cannot set your own kWh price and this feature is never coming. It is a feature with little use when prices change continuously. As for average kWh per day this a weighted average which means it is the p/kWh you paid, not the average p/kWh of the tariff. For example, a tariff that is 5p/kWh for 4 hours and 20p/kWh for 20 hours would have an average of 17.5p/kWh. However, that is not your average. If you used all your electricity during the cheapest hours then your average would be 5p/kWh. This weighted average gives a fair and accurate average for any smart tariff that can readily be compared with dumb tariffs.
  • Great App :)

This is a really great app but… it could do with some sort of feedback/bug reporting mechanism to alert the developer to genuine issues.

Handling of missing data is great, except… when there has been a power cut and the meter is therefore powered down and unable to record data for the duration of the outage. In this scenario, the missing data cannot be recovered by any means and it is therefore genuinely and permanently missing.

Ideally, such valid missing data should be able to be tagged as such by the user and the rest of the day should then be processed normally, rather than being permanently hidden as it is currently.

Sorry to raise this here but I couldn’t find any other way of raising the issue.

In every other respect, this is an excellent app and I would recommend it to all Octopus customers without hesitation. Keep up the good work :)

  • My favourite app for octopus

Enough on the free tier to see what you are using. Subscribing has helped me understand in greater detail where I’m using energy. I’ve saved well over £100 a year using the subscription features to drive down base load and identity heavy hitters.

And I’ve just seen gas under beta….. it’s now the best app and I can ditch the rest.

  • Good app for Octopus users with excellent help by developer

Kim, the very hands on developer, has helped me so much to get my Octopus import/export info sorted out. The app is now helping me to see exactly how much I’m in credit, or not, each day with Octopus so I can check my bills/credits easily.

If you have any problems, just contact Kim, who’s always there to give a hand.

Great friendly customer service, can’t fault it. 10/10!!

  • Great App

I have used this app for 18 months now. Originally getting it when I was on the Agile rate, it allowed me to see what the rates were in a usable format, also guesstimating the next day rates, so useful for planning. Since changing to the GoFaster rate I now use it to see what my daily/weekly/monthly spend has been within the history section. I recently had an issue with the app, which having spoken to the developer (Kim) turned out to be an Octopus issue rather than an app issue. With Kim’s assistance, Octopus rectified the issue very quickly and the app is now fully working again. Many thanks to the developer.

  • Suddenly stopped working

I’ve been using the App for a couple of years and it’s been great. Updated to the new v4.0 App this week and it crashes and closes 1/2 a second after opening. Very frustrating.

Edit post Developer response: have deleted and reinstalled the App; and restored purchases and now all working as expected again. Upgraded the rating to a 4. The App does what it does well, but for £10+ a year, it should do more.

The app is £8.99 a year and only if you want the subscription extras, which barely covers the cost of servers let alone the cost of development. If you have suggestions for new features always feel free to email them to contact@smarthound.uk . The main focus at the moment is to develop new tools to help people through the winter without increasing the price of the app. That's no small feat, so do bear with me. Everyone in the energy industry, including myself, is playing catchup and we are doing the best we can.
  • Incredibly powerful app

This app is wonderful. The level of detail and reporting gives you an amazing insight into your energy usage which has been so helpful recently. Paired with my Loop Energy Monitor and its associated app, SolarEdge solar panels and app, and Tesla Powerwall and app, I’ve managed to not only get a handle on my costly energy usage, but have also managed to reduce my usage by around 30-40% a day regularly.

This is the detail that Octopus need to have natively in their app but is sadly lacking.

    Great job, developer.
