Reviews of D&D Beyond

  • App is alright. Kinda buggy sometimes.

Been using the app for a homebrew campaign. Does the basics well…as long as you don’t need anything custom. Yeah, you can add custom gear…but you’ll still need paper and pencil to keep track of things. You basically only get a wall of text with no formatting. Even if you go onto the website. If the gear adds any buffs…it won’t apply to your stats. also, when you try to manually format…such as adding a space or moving a sentence to the next line (you know…basic things) it might save or it might not (most the time NOT). Hours could (and in my case…did) go to waste. For an app that REQUIRES you to buy hundreds of dollars of digital content…I expected a LOT more from the app. I regret buying all the books. Most nights I get frustrated and resort to paper and pencil. If I wanted to do all everything old school pencil and paper…I could have went online for free… It has a lot of potential. IF you only play straight from the book NON homebrew, I suppose it’s pretty good. But, once you start diverging…you see all the glaring deficiencies and move into nerd rage mode. I’m moving to just using it as a library of core stuff and maybe a tool to start building characters when in bored. Not really a good tool for campaigns.
  • Really nice app for everything but reading from the books

So I’ve used this since it’s probably come out, 100% would recommend if your a player or DM, it’s far easier then carrying the books around or having to bring a computer everywhere to look at the rules.
But there is one major issue that hasn’t been fixed, mainly that the section of the app that allows you to directly read from the books is super janky. For starters you have to read the books on full bright mode, because if you change the brightness to dark or classic, it doesn’t change the color of the text, making it black on black text. Further you also can’t adjust the text at all, despite having settings options that tell you that you can. Finally the pictures that are in the book, aren’t scaled at all, meaning that some pages are just straight up hard to navigate due to the formatting.
Overall everything besides the issues stated above is really good, I cannot recommend this app enough, I’m honestly just posting this review to ask them to fix it, the app would be just about perfect if they just fix the text settings in the book.
If you read this fully, Thank You! And download this, it’s probably not spyware
  • Essential for me!

My turn would take Ages and Ages because I am terrible at remembering things and doing mathematics and accounting. Admittedly, I have only been playing for a couple years, but I don’t think I would have kept at it if it wasn’t BeyondDnD. Nobody else in my campaign uses it, but they’ve been playing for 30 years. They have no problems with me using it and don’t give me any attitude about it, which is really nice. Honestly, the parts of the game that I miss by not filling out character, sheets, and writing things down and all of that are not interesting to me at all. In fact, they would be a deterrent. I do roll dice physically because it’s important and there are times when we puzzle over a particular stat and how it’s arrived at. there have been a few instances where homebrew items or spells are a little hard to integrate, but I’ve made do.
