Slightly tedious, but still very valuable
I still prefer this over the book for obvious portability and universal access, especially since I mostly play virtually with friends. Hardback books are a bit better in a group since you can pass it around for others to use, though if you have a dedicated tablet or something you can fill this purpose.
That said, the app can be a little tedious to use since everything is organized in chapters. Treating everything as a single PDF-life document, that still has the same searchability and clickable links as it does now, might make using the app more intuitive.
I would give 4.5 Starts (or 9/10) if I could, with the half star drop being from some odd functionalities that aren’t intuitive relative to most any other phone-based data collection functions.

Account info
The app itself is fantastic! But it’s annoying that my account settings aren’t shown in the account section. I’m trying to log on to a laptop and I can’t remember what stuff I used for my account on my phone (which is what I’m using)
Visual Problems
Please fix the visuals on the character sheet for iPhone 16 Pro App.
Paywall
The paywall sucks, but overall almost everything is perfect
It’s perfect for a good DnD sesh
Great app to help keep track of things in your campaign! 🔥😁
So good
Soooo good
Only Good for the Basics
D&D Beyond is a helpful tool for new players, or for experienced players looking to make quick and basic characters.
It helpfully calculates all your stats, bonuses, and abilities, while keeping track of your race and class features. It also walks you through character creation in a straightforward way, making it easy to quickly throw together a new character for a one-shot session with friends.
Where I get really frustrated, however, is in the lack of content available for free. Without buying any DLC’s or content packages, users only have access to a very short list of races and classes. Furthermore, those classes might include choosing spells from a list, but D&D Beyond doesn’t HAVE the list, requiring you to look it up on Google and remember which ones you picked. Also, D&D Beyond often disagrees with the Player Handbook on what options you have at various levels. The Handbook might say “Rangers can pick either X or Y ability,” but in the D&D Beyond character creation, there’s a dropdown menu with only “Option Z,” which is really confusing to someone like me who has some experience, but not a lot.
Overall, this app can be a great starting place for new players, or returning players looking to make something simple or basic. But as soon as you want to step outside of the few races and classes offered, this app can do absolutely nothing for you, which is a shame.

great but…
I love using this for d&d but because it’s impossible to scan physical books and get the info it really makes it nearly impossible to use
Few alternatives
The app provides the bare minimum. I mostly use the character sheets on the website even on an iPad. The app is not intuitive and you cannot do everyone on here you can on the websites. It’s annoying how they make you scroll through all the content you COULD buy to get to the content you bought and want to use. I can only recommend since there is few alternatives

They got cheap
Because they came out with a new player’s Handbook they have removed all the subclasses from the digital character sheets unless you digitally buy the new handbook which I bought in physical form and had the old one digitally.
