  • Not user friendly

The old app was so much better. You can’t look at the map and legend at the same time so you have to go back and forth over and over. Really disappointing, and navigating on the map while reading the legend is impossible. I can’t believe it hasn’t been changed as the reviews from two years ago state the same problem. Give us the old app back! This is trash.

  • Free app version of website

Better than expected from a free state app. It’s better than the website and will live on my phone forever now. That’s it. Rating 5 to balance the hate.

  • Absolutely terrible to navigate

Wyoming 511 is simple and easy to use. I wish the Montana 511 was easier to navigate and use. There’s like 12 different “road conditions options” and Wyoming has 5. Montanas cameras don’t even freaking work???? I was trying to travel through and the cameras were no help and pitch black. The Wyoming cameras keep updated and have night vision so you can see them in the dark. I’m extremely disappointed in this app.

  • Destination point or start point?

Setting the destination point is too confusing. It should be easy. But it acts like it’s my start point.
  • Not trustworthy

At best they update road conditions twice a day in the winter. The old version was way better. In Montana this MUST be updated more often if you want this to be an app that can be used.
  • Great App

This app is well laid out and has great, helpful information!
Better than the apps for the 2 states below MT
  • Detailed and Informative

Appreciate the details provided especially with how interesting MT weather can get. There are lots of layers for conditions and I take that over vague any day. Want to see a worthless reporting tool? Take a look at Idaho’s version of this, that will give you perspective.
  • Simple, informative, and easy to use

Not sure about why so many complaints about the new version, other than it is just different than the old and people want to resist change (I get that).
I think the new version is easier to use and provides better information faster than the old, which was really dated. Kudos for stepping up.
  • A little clunky, but works.

    Title says it all.

Move the button that plays the robot voice of someone reading the weather report. That’s where the “close”button typically is, not a “play sound” button. I always end up having to close the app to get that robot voice to stop telling me how icy it is.
  • Bad just bad

This app is just bad, completely missed the bar on what a road conditions map should be it’s not easy to use not user-friendly and it’s just. Added useless features and made the legend so difficult to see and use that it almost makes it unusable. Unless it’s fixed to something way better which I’m told is in the works skip it and use something else. Shame on you montana this is bad

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for your difficulty using the app. The legacy MDT511.com and MDT 511 apps served Montana well for many (15+) years, but they ran on older code that was getting harder to support with modern browsers and mobile devices. The legacy system failed multiple times over the last few years and MDT was genuinely concerned the next failure could be unrecoverable, leaving the state with no program. While the new system does have many more options than the old system, it also has the ability to customize the view to meet individual needs. Tapping the blue key in the lower-right corner of the map reveals the legend for Road Conditions. Be sure to have Road Conditions toggled on via the top-right menu (Map Overlays) so that they appear on the map. While in that same menu, you have the option to toggle on/off many of the features so that the map view is more user friendly for you and less cluttered. Tapping any segment on the map produces a road conditions report, which you can have read to you by tapping the play button. Cities appear at closer zoom levels. These features, once set, will perpetuate from session to session. If you have specific concerns, or for additional assistance, feel free to email us at MT511@iteris.com. After you try out these options, please consider coming back and updating your review! We want to make sure the new system meets the needs of our current and future users. We do not recommend using the app while driving. For statewide road conditions, you can also call 511 within Montana, 800-226-7623 outside Montana, or visit MDT511.com before your trip. Thank you for using the MDT 511 Travel Info app. Safe travels.
