  • Ferry alerts need to be more specific

I signed up for Bainbridge ferry alerts, so I know when a morning commute will have problems due to vessel maintenance or crew shortages. Getting delay alerts on routes I have no interest in have encouraged me to turn off my push alerts. I would rather get less useful information than be burdened by false alerts.

  • App about as useful as the ferry system in 2024

    Positives: the information is there.

Negatives: with the frequent breakdowns, off-schedule sailings, and wait lines for cars the app is barely useful.

The main page for each ferry should incorporate the live data, alerts, and actual/predicted sailing times. There’s a bar that fills showing drive up spots for the next ferry, but there should be one for the cars in line behind those spots. Add a feature that estimates the next sailing that will have space available. You have cameras, you know how many cars fit in each boat, that should be enough info to show that.

“Next sailing predicted 5:15 (4:45 scheduled), 0 spots available, cars in line will fill the 6:15 (running behind, expected at 6:30) ferry, next available ferry with available car spots will be 7:15 (late, expected 7:45)” or something like that.

  • Crashes when attempt to open:but WSDOT knows that.

Developer response suggests users of older iPhones delete the app and reinstall it instead of a straightforward update.
Make that part of dev update notes.(!)
Many of us actually read them.
Search on the map for routing is ridiculous.
The second largest city in the state does not show in suggestions. The first suggestion is a city somewhere in Turkey. Second opportunity is the 'other' city located in Canada. Weak.
Try putting in Tumwater and see where it suggests you want go.
What is the purpose of having a localized, state centered app if it's going to direct users off continent ? Why share current location with the app only to have it default on Seattle? Seattle is not the center of everyone's universe.

So, after deleting it now it loads. But it is still questionable on usefulness for local information.

    Developer Response

Sorry about the crash issue in the app. The app's main database dependency has dropped support for older versions of the app (v5.27.0 and lower). This is causing the app to crash for some app users when updating. We are advising users who are experiencing this issue to delete and reinstall the app from the App Store. This should work to reset the database on your device so that the app works correctly. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused. If you need additional assistance, please send us an email at webfeedback@wsdot.wa.gov. Thank you!
