  • Great app when it works

Recently started using EXR. Good equivalent to Zwift for cycling. Really like the app when it works. Recently the touch screen function stops working which keeps me from being able to take a screen shot, pause or stop a workout. Only way to get out of the app is to force quit which deletes my current workout info. Not an iPad issue as all other apps work just fine.

Using the EXR on a 2021 IPad Pro with latest iOS and connected to a Concept 2 PM5. Please fix.

  • Misleading Trial

My trial was cut short. I needed a recovery day between each day of rowing. After my third day of actual rowing, sixth calendar day, my trial ended.

It’s cool but not $80/year cool. Maybe $80 for lifetime. It’s not like anyone will row more than 30 min a day.

    Developer Response

Hi there, We're sorry that your trial ended sooner than expected. Naturally, we want to look into this and give you all your trial days. To do so, please send your EXR username and a description of the issue to support@exrgame.com. Kind regards, The EXR team
  • More Features per Penny than any other App

EXR has turned into my go to training app. No, you don’t get the hyper fine tuned data you get from ErgZone, but you do get plenty of feedback for effective training and the environment looks amazing on a large display TV or 32” monitor. I used to use Metrownome for SPM pacing, but now EXR has the icon to set your SPM with the workout. This might not be for super serious competitive rowers but it’s more than enough for the person looking to maintain or improve fitness. I will say there’s a lot of info on an iPhone display but it’s ok and I’d rather have too much than not enough. If you want more data then set your pm5 monitor to see what you need to. Good job, I’ll keep the subscription going.

Hi Joe, Thanks a lot for your great feedback! Kind regards, The EXR Team
  • New update seems broken

New update doesn’t work on my iPad. Graphics are dark and don’t show textures. The screen flickers when there’s motion.

    Developer Response

Hi there, We're sorry that you have issues running EXR on your iPad. Is it in line with the hardware requirements ( https://exrgame.com/support/compatible-hardware)? Our team is looking into the matter but it'd speed up the troubleshooting process if you send us more information via support@exrgame.com. Kind regards, The EXR team
  • Great app

I’m pleased with app and the relative ease of connection to my water rower. I would like comment on the incompatibility with split screen on iPad. I have to run the app off my phone and watch movie on iPad separately. Other apps do a better job

    Developer Response

Hi there, Thanks for your review! We'll look into a split screen feature in the future yet for the next few updates, other functions have priority. Stay tuned to the latest developments by subscribing to the EXR newsletter and by reading the EXR Blog: https://exrgame.com/blog Kind regards, The EXR team
  • Just Good - Not Great

I have almost 4 million meters on a concept 2 rower. I’ve tried all the apps in the App Store. I rate this 3 because it’s connection to the pm5 is solid. Never had an issue through the trial. It connects to the concept2 online book. So it’s solid from that perspective.

But the UI is a mess. It’s hard to find things. It’s hard to set up workouts. At no time does the app tell you before it can prompt you, you need to do the FTP test. So my first workout had split times so slow, I needed to be off the machine to have the hopes of hitting them. The EXR algorithm competes with the concept 2 metrics, and they are VERY different. Like 10 secs slower for split time. So expected to see slower splits and recording less meters rowed than the PM5 will register. I row 2:02 on the concept pm5 and EXR registers 2:12. Very jarring. But reading their explanations makes sense, but if you aren’t prepared for it, it’s very off putting. Again not a lot of detail in the app on that I had to find it online and get help from customer service. For the animation to be smooth, you are told to use the EXR algorithm not the pm5.

I like a rowing coach that provides a rowing pace to follow - I could not find that anywhere. So it’s harder to pace without a stroke guide. Would have liked to have seen that.

The animation is off, the stroke seems about 1/2 second off mine. I would be at the finish just as the animation was pulling from the catch.

The Training section is very confusing. Hard to navigate and figure out what exactly you are selecting. The mini games felt clunky and I gave up on them. I didn’t enjoy training with this app.

Even with my FTP based on their test set, the rowing pace was so slow it was uncomfortable.

I made it through the free trial, but honestly - don’t see myself using this. There are better coach apps in the App Store.

Hi there, Thanks for your detailed review! We're sorry that your avatar was not in sync with your movements. Sometimes, you need to row a few steady strokes before EXR syncs well. To improve the sync, ensure that your device is placed close to your rower and that Bluetooth signals from unused devices are turned off (e.g. speakers) since they might interfere with your connection. It would be interesting for us to investigate the inaccuracy of your FTP results. Therefore, it would be great if you send us the results that EXR showed you after the test compared to your estimated/real FTP to feedback@exrgame.com. This way, our developers can take a closer look at the issue, solve it and improve the app. We understand that the UI has room for improvements and got good news: We're busy redesigning the UI, HUD and menus to make EXR easier to understand and more intuitive. Also, a pace indicator and other functions like ghost boats are in the making. Perhaps you might want to give EXR a try again after we've added the new features and released the redesigned app. Once we have news on these things, we'll let you know via our social media and the EXR newsletter. Kind regards, The EXR team
  • Great app for edging indoors

I live in northern New York and have to erg indoors half of the year. This app makes rowing indoors realistic and halfway fun. I cannot wait until I can row with others. Sure there has been some growing pains but the app today is a mature platform. It is the rowing equivalent of Zwift!

    Developer Response

Hi there, Thanks for your great feedback! We plan on releasing a multiplayer experience and a competition mode later this year. Once we have news on these features, we'll let you know via our social media and the newsletter. Kind regards, The EXR team
  • A Great Rowing App. !

A million meters in and I love it. Whether it’s a quick row to start the day or a preset of some serious training, I’ll always have it on.

Keep up the great work guys, digging the new features!

Hi there, Thanks for your review! We're happy to hear that you're loving EXR and are working on more exciting features, so stay tuned! Kind regards, The EXR team
  • I am really enjoying this

As a new rower and not in the best shape this has been so motivating. I love the games and shark attack is fun and mean (in a good way) when you’re new like me. I cannot wait for competition mode for that extra push. I hope more maps and mini games are in the horizon I did find the ability to use my apple watch with a caster app as my hrm so that was wonderful.

    Developer Response

Hi there, Thanks for your feedback. Great to hear that EXR gives you that extra motivation! Good news: A new map is going to be released soon. Also, the competition mode is in the making and scheduled for later this year. Once we have news on these things and new features like Apple Watch support, we'll let you know via our social media and the newsletter. Kind regards, The EXR team
  • Has solid potential

So far so good. Works as advertised and keeps things interesting while stuck indoors.

Custom training interface is a little clunky. No cursor in most of the fields to show where you are editing. Not super intuitive but it basically works.

I would think head to head virtual rows would be at the top of the developer list right now. I have no desire to be in a packed workout room these days. I also have friends who erg in multiple states and countries and this would really be a great feature.

    Developer Response

Hi there, Thanks for your review! We are currently redesigning EXR's user interface and aim to release the revamped app later this year. Additionally, a multiplayer experience, a pace indicator and a competition mode are in development. Once we have news on these things, we'll let you know via our social media and the newsletter. Kind regards, The EXR team
