  • essential item in art toolkit

Glad to have ArtRage on an iPad pro. The tools are great but for me, ArtRage’s main feature is subtlety. Zoom in as much as you like, and you really don’t see pixels, just the transitions among color and intensity. None of my other great art tools do this. I’d like to see selections added to the iPad OS version..iPhone, too.

The iPad version suffers from unreliable palm rejection, often resulting in the brush size widget appearing as you’re drawing, forcing you to scale the brush size up, then down, in order to dismiss it to resume seeing what you’re drawing. Would hope the devs would address this.

  • Keeps crashing!

Nice features but useless when app continues to crash and all progress is lost.
  • I really want to like it

I keep hoping artrage will impress me but I usually end up disappointed. Clunky U.I., lack of options, just O.K. Brushes that are often cumbersome to use and organized in a frustrating way. If you are a primarily traditional artist, and arent familiar with a lot of software, this might be good for you while you get used to digital art. But for me, an experienced digital artist, this is another letdown. Also, there is no excuse for not including 2 finger tap undo at this point. Its standard across many apps and it is SO frustrating when its not default, or an option.

  • To many issues...

I really want to enjoy this app but it has way too many bugs.
The color picker doesn't work, the color picker eyedropper doesn't show up, brushes randomly don't work, some brushes randomly stop working, the canvas randomly flips around, the palette knives feel like they only work at 10%...And way more
    It's a mess

  • It has potential

I love ArtRage on Windows but would really love to be able to use the Apple pencil and iPad to draw. However not all of the key features are on Vitae for iPad yet so I hope the developers keep working at it. I would pay more if they included essential features like custom brush, brush designer, and stencils. But right now it doesn’t suit my needs since I need custom brushes and stencils to use this for what I really want (emulating traditional painting and calligraphy). We need to be able to control the brush shape and whether the brush angle is controlled by pencil tilt angle (azimuth).

  • A let down

The watercolor presets & brush behaviors are great. Though I had been hoping to get a drip behavior by tilting the iPad. The pencil is fine too. I just wish any other tools had been worth using.

The oil brush and tube of paint tools are painfully bad. Their strokes are so, so cringe. Maybe it looks less horrible on a lower res screen? And who on earth thought a glitter tool was a good idea? Any app with a glitter tool is for kids - not for artists/professionals.

Honestly at least half of the tools should be reworked or removed. Better to be rid of them than to keep a poor implementation. If I'd had the option to test the app first I wouldn't have chosen to purchase it after.

After everything I had read about the desktop app, I had expected more.

  • A Better undo?

This app would be absolutely perfect if it had a 2 finger tap undo like other art apps have. Other than that it’s great for realistic looking paintings.
  • Almost Perfect

Hi, to the developers, I LOVE this app! For making traditional looking digital oil paintings, it is one of the best, if not the very best. I just have one request: the Undo function is very awkward. The three-finger swipe usually moves the canvas, instead of undoing. Would you be willing to add a two-finger tap to undo?

  • Better, but…

This iteration of AR is an improvement with one significant UI flaw. The tool picker and color picker are clumsy. Worse, the tool picker can’t get out of its own way. It constantly pops onto the canvas, causing you to inadvertently switch tools. One second you’re using pastel, the next an airbrush. Annoying and distracting. Using a 2021 iPad Pro.

  • Amazing Tool

I have used ArtRage for a few years now. Very simple and yet very powerful. Very analog simulation of artists tools and you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended
