Very pay to win
I will admit that the gameplay is actually really fun, but once you start getting past playing with only new players it becomes more and more obvious that’s it about how many chests people have opened, due to the progression in the game requiring you to get duplicates of items and fuse them together, you can grind out the game but there is even limits to how fast you can do that. I wish that they only sold things like skins instead of ruining what is obviously an actual fun game, maybe make people pay for the game, or even try to bring it to Apple Arcade which lacks good games like this oneShow lessdarkokun97

My review was deleted???? This game is extremely pay 2 win they have you behind a grind wall to incent on spending avoid this game at all costs or you will eventually spend money to enjoy the game
Edit: developers reply and try to downplay the fact that there is a grindwall with constant pop ups to spend money there is a constant push to spend money it’s aggressive and shameful this game will do great with your actual target market Asia evil Corp really is evil who would’ve thoughtShow lesslazy cash grab
I just can’t forgive you for Vainglory
This game seems ok, missing a bit of personality spark in the characters, but very polished as you would expect from SEMC. I just can’t seem to forgive you for ruining vainglory. I mean, what were you thinking? It was one of the best games of all time.A.s.h

Essentially team based, twin stick shooter. Limited weapon types but large power upgrade capability, a la Destiny. Growing this power requires a lot of grinding against people who spend money. The game is blatant pay to win. This choice is understandable in the context of their years long struggle with vainglory. Perhaps they thought it wouldn’t matter since the matches are only 4 minutes long, however that in turn means that nothing matters at all. Matches are so short that there is no emotional attachment to the match, no dynamic strategic development, and a shallow social component consisting solely of people friending the top player in every match, because what else could you possibly know about them? Go ahead and spend your money to beat strangers on the internet in four minute matches if that’s your jam, just beware that you may wake up tomorrow with no account, and find that the developer has packed their bags and run out of town yet again.Show lessDouggiie

I was excited that catalyst black finally came out after years, but very underwhelming, very boring and repetitive, theres not much diversity, every game I get into feels the same. Disappointing follow up to Vainglory
What made vainglory so remarkable was the clear dedication to bringing PC quality games to Mobile. It was fantastic. From the mechanics, to the monetization, to the UI. Catalyst Black looks, feels, costs, like everything that you would expect from any other mobile game. The game play is alright, the character customization is interesting, the graphics are acceptable. But the daily limits on progression rewards. The direct impact money can have on damage dealt in game. The bland mobile menus and overall uninspired UI. The generic feeling gameplay. When vainglory was no longer supported I was really looking forward to Catalyst Black. But, it looks like SuperEvilMegaCorp has chosen to start leaning into their name.Show lessBomackin

Big letdown compared to vainglory, their previous game. This is a blatant cash grab with tons of pop up offers to make you instantly stronger than everyone else. The competitive mode eventide will lag or freeze when there are large clashes, and it will randomly crash at least once a match. This is happening on an iPhone XR so I can’t imagine how much worse it is for people with older phones.Show lessK0INU
Maybe just not for me
I didn’t like anything tbh, also my iPhone overheated quickly which is weird considering how simple the game is and the graphics are not that great, i know that’s not what you want to hear, but all this time and resources could’ve been used to fix and possibly rebuild vainglory from scratch, anyways good luck with this one, sadly I won’t be a part of this journey (5 stars as a token of respect only).Show lessA_M_J_95
