Description of Luxometer

This app functions as a light detector right from the convenience of your phone! As the old saying goes, the best light detector is the one you have on you. Well now, you can have one on you for all your safety and light detection needs with the tap of a finger. App uses the built in hardware and light detection algorithms provided by the device to offer powerful ambient light intensity detection (in Lumens) as well as ambient color temperature(in Kelvin) measurements. Simply point device in direction of light source, toggle the Light Estimation switch, and see the real time read outs of the incoming data. As a nice visual, the app also integrates some of the latest advances in Augment Reality to render floating spheres that reflect the light qualities being detected by the app.

once it gets up to about 1000 it can't detect brighter lighting
  • Can’t see the numbers

I don’t like to give low stars as these apps are done by entrepreneurs. But, you guys should improve the visibility of the numbers. I can hardly read the lumen rating. If you want example, see the app ‘Light Meter 3000’
  • Not sure what this is supposed to be measuring ...

Brightness looking at the sunny day outside my office: about 1050 lumens.

Brightness at my desk, away from the window, ambient light only: also about 1050 lumens.

I'm no scientist (actually, I am), but should something lit with direct sunlight be brighter than the thing lit indirectly from that?

My guess is the meter only measures ambient light, but uses the BACK camera, and shows an image, making you think the are measuring the light from far away. No, its the local light, just how much actually reaches you.

The app would actually slightly useful, if they used the FRONT camera. Then, i could place it in a location (like my desk), and see how much light there is.

In the current configuration, the sensor is on the back of the phone, and you read it from the front. Kinda silly.
