  • Not very accurate

Idk where they get the info but it’s not very accurate. I know there’s more active fires in my state than what the app says.

Our main data source is the National Interagency Fire Center, which is the authoritative source for U.S. fire data. If fires are not appearing in Firespot, it's due to a lapse in reporting by the local fire agencies. We also show satellite-detected fires from NASA, in purple. These are totally automated, and not dependent on reporting by local fire agencies.
  • Owner

    Too slow to notify.
  • Fire app

This app is more difficult to use than the US Fires app.
  • Love the app but needs more

I love this app-it provides some peace of mind during this very scary season. I wish it had a few more features though-I would like to know current rate of spread, direction of travel, and acres burnt. There is a huge difference in level of concern when these things are taken into consideration

    Developer Response

Thank you for the feedback. We're constantly expanding the data shown in Firespot. Although we don't yet show wind direction, we do show current satellite-detected hotspots. This can be really useful for showing which part of a fire's perimeter is actively burning/spreading.
  • Really?

Just downloaded this as the Palisade Fire is 7.5 miles from my front door and I’d love real time alerts. The fire doesn’t even show in the system on here - and it started over 24hrs ago! BAD

    Developer Response

The current version of Firespot uses only satellite-based alerts, sourced from the ESA’s Sentinel satellites. In the next few weeks we will be releasing a major update, incorporating near real-time updates for U.S. fires, including precise perimeters.
  • Fire ap

It does not load or show fires quickly and accurately
  • Fire! Yet nothing on app

There is currently a fire near Irvine, CA that’s growing bigger and nearer. Yet, this app is showing no signs of fire in that area! The maps are just empty maps. Do NOT use this useless app.
  • Doesn’t show active fires

There’s a fire in Orange County and it doesn’t show it at all. Delete.
  • Location and alerts settings do not work

I have the location access enabled, but the app does not identify my location and I am unable to set any alerts. Is this really compatible with iOS???
  • It has a huge problem in the settings

Cannot set my email, or the physical area of my alert notification. Yes, I have location services turned on in settings on my phone. It says there is a fire at my house.

    Developer Response

I wonder if there's some confusion about the circles shown on the settings screen. You change the area of alert notification just by tapping on that screen. The yellow circle is for non-urgent alerts, the red inner circle is for urgent alerts. If it's showing a fire at your house, I wonder if you might be mistaking the red inner circle (notification area) for a detected fire. Fires themselves are only shown on the top-level map screen, not in the settings area.
