Hook and sinker 7-day trial

I wanted to try it for the 7-day free trial but didn’t like the app and wanted to cancel before they automatically charge and enroll you in the 1-year plan (over $60!). 1 day before the trial was to end I tried to login and couldn’t. I selected the send me an email to reset my password probably like 5+ times and the email to reset the password and have access to the account to end the trial NEVER arrived. The next day *cha-ching* auto enrolled. I asked for another reset my password email then and, what do you know? The email was sent and I had access to my account a little too late. No option to cancel and get refunded for the subscription I didn’t want. I emailed customer support over 3 days ago about my issues and they haven’t gotten back to me. Don’t fall for the “free 7-day trial” SAVE YOURSELVES!

Poor customer service

Un transparent information about the subscription rules and trial.

What I’ve been looking for!

When trying to learn Spanish (going from English to Spanish) I tried watching well-known movies with the closed caption and audio set to Spanish. Often the closed-caption and Spanish audio didn’t match up!

This contains many high-quality videos that completely sync the closed-caption with audio so it’s much easier for my brain!

They have well-made animation shows, drama, mysteries, sci-fi, shows for kids, teens, adults. When I can’t sleep, I play the audio and just listen to the dialogue…absorbing the words!

Could use some improvement

Just got a 7 day free trial and am already noticing a couple things that could be improved. The AI needs to be more conversational to allow users to ask for further clarification. There needs to be a way to filter based on the origin of the show (HK, Taiwan, Mainland, etc.) I say that last part because one language can have many dialects with pronunciations and word patterns. Another thing is that there needs to be something else that prevents duplicate words from being accidentally saved. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to change the vocab from simplified to traditional chinese characters. Overall, it's a decent concept, but it needs some work.

Best for Non-Beginners

As yet, I’ve only worked with Lingopie briefly, but I really like it so far!

The best part is that you’re watching movies, TV shows, etc., so it’s very engaging and entertaining! However, Lingopie gives you a lot of further resources to help you understand and review what you’re watching.

This is probably not the best course for complete beginners in your target language. That, since it’s not a strategically-defined curriculum as such: It doesn’t systematically teach you the most-basic words first, then build out from that core. It jumps in right away with fully-formed, often non-trivial sentences.

However, if you’re already at least somewhat familiar with your target language, or with a related language, you could probably learn a lot pretty quickly.

I see this — again, so far at least — as more about learning new vocabulary, and practicing the vocabulary you already know, in real-world contexts, and doing so in a lively, practical, and fun way!

Chinese?

When is there a chinese option?

Has potential

I think a big problem is its a new app.
It has a lot of tech issues. The controls freeze and if you switch to landscape or back to portrait it is very glitchy.
It has a lot of very literal translations. I wish it had translations of phrases then a breakdown of word for word from that. (Hopefully this happens in the future). I wish you could add the words manually after seeing the translation, it is too often that you click a word you know by accident or the translation is either bad or non existent leaving you with a useless listing in your vocabulary lists (maybe you can remove them later but this whole thing should be avoidable).
There is a glitch in the vocabulary video playback that cuts off the audio and video at the end often cutting of the word you are studying.
An option to report or suggest features in the app would be great. As of now its on discord which is very complicated to use.
The continue watching should be pinned to the top in the app. It is always way down the list and takes a second to find.
The content is good and hopefully getting better. I hope it is just in the growing pains stage and will improve in the future. With that i would definitely change my rating to 5 star. The app has a lot of potential and a bright future if the work gets put in.

Good for learning languages

I find this very enjoyable as an app but occasionally the sound disappears and I can’t get it to work which is rather frustrating when you’re trying to listen to pronunciation. I guess this must be a bug in the system perhaps you could tell me how to resolve this?

Powerful learning tool

As part of a language learning strategy, this is an invaluable resource. It isn’t a one stop shop, but nothing is. Well worth the money.

Needs improvement in language support and content variety

I was excited to try out this app, but unfortunately, it fell short in several key areas. Firstly, some of the subtitles are incorrect, which makes it challenging to follow along accurately. Additionally, there are limited options for shows to watch, which is quite disappointing considering the variety available on other platforms. There are some more options available if combined with a Netflix subscription.

One major drawback for me is that the app does not support traditional Chinese characters. As someone who primarily uses traditional characters, this significantly impacts my ability to enjoy and learn from the content.

Lastly, the feature to slow down the audio for beginners actually makes it harder to hear clearly and distorts the audio quality. This counterproductive effect hinders the learning experience rather than enhancing it.

Overall, while the app has potential, it needs significant improvements in language support, content variety, and audio functionality to be truly effective.
