  • Doesn’t work

I’ve tried multiple tripods at different heights, have adequate lighting, grass, artificial turf, can’t get it to read shots. On top of that if I select right handed golfer, the arrow with the direction to swing wants me to swing left handed. Like the concept, but it does not work at all

Thank you for trying out Golfboy. It seems there may be an issue with the setup, but it can definitely be resolved. If the problem persists, please contact Golfboy support with a photo of your hitting area. Here are 5 important points to ensure proper setup: (1) Use a plain green mat (or grass). (2) Ensure there is about 7 feet of green mat both under your feet and in the direction of your shot. (3) Make sure the tripod height is set correctly. (4) If the brightness adjustment is unstable on AUTO, switch to a fixed setting. (5) Ensure that neither your shadow nor the tripod's shadow is strongly cast on the mat beneath your feet (although measurement may still be possible in some cases).
  • Hit not registering

I just tried this for almost two hours. First, I side with foam balls on synthetic turf hitting my 52 into the wall. Out of 20 shots I was able to get 3 recorded. So I thought it was probably poor lighting in my house. So I took it outside. Tried both a shaded area and sunny area with real balls on my lawn. Two shots out of 20 registered. I tried different angles of the camera. I tried lowering and raising the tripod. My setup is iPhone 12 Pro with a 4’ tall tripod. White balls. Cannot get it to work at all. Really disappointed as I was fully willing to pay a monthly subscription for feedback on my distances so I could get this new set of clubs dialed in without going to pay for range balls.

  • Only works 1 out of 10 try’s

Love the idea and all the review videos but after many attempts I can’t get it to read more than 1 out of 10 shots unfortunately.

Thank you for trying out Golfboy. Any issues related to the installation environment can be resolved, so please check the following: - Use a plain green mat. - Extend the mat 7 feet in the direction of the hit. - Set the height of the tripod (from the floor to the camera lens) accurately. - Adjust the ball's distance settings through customization. Even if the ball is recognized near your feet, if the floor in the direction of the hit is white, the ball recognition may be lost and not measured correctly.
  • Awesome!

I love this app, so glad I tried this before paying hundreds of dollars for a launch monitor. I did calibrated a little bit so my phone is at 4 feet but I said the registered height to 4’6” and it seems to be much more reasonable. After this adjustment, the measurements seem much more reasonable and more importantly from shot to shot seems very consistent from a relative basis.

It is so helpful to take a swing and see in instant replay to provide feedback on whatever it is that I’m working on. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks, but I have to say this is the best money I’ve spent on an app in a very long time.
  • Never consistent

Literally have downloaded and re-downloaded this app over and over and it only works when it wants. I have the perfect tripod. I have solid lighting and it always says ready to take a hit and sometimes it’ll take me 50 to 60 hits before it finally gets one ball. Once it gets, it can hold for a second and then it’s right back to.

Thank you for using our product. Based on the issue described, the problem is likely related to the color of the floor in the direction of the shot. Please extend the mat that is correctly recognizing the ball about 7 feet in the direction of the shot. The primary issue seems to be that after hitting the ball, the contrast between the floor and the ball's color is affecting its detection. Using a white ball on a green floor should work without any issues. If the problem persists, please contact our support team with photos of your setup, and we will assist you until the issue is resolved. We provide support to ensure the product works in various environments worldwide.
  • Would not register my driver and woods

I tried adjusting the tripod and the angle, even tried different lighting. Maybe is because I use indoors. I don’t know, just didn’t for me.

  • Won’t work on older OS’s

I really wanted this thing to work but my phone can’t run the newest OS so it just didn’t work.

Also, there is literally no way to prevent or cancel the subscription! I had to contact Apple to cancel the subscription. I don’t even know how that’s possible.

    Developer Response

Dear Overhand Golf Thank you for finding Golfboy!! Some functions of Golfboy are not available depending on the model (which depends on the processing performance of the device) and not on the OS version. In addition, the subscription is a general Apple system and the cancellation method is provided by the same mechanism as other apps. The cancellation procedure is also described on the official website (https://golfboy.jp/en/index.html#cancel).
  • Amazing

    Seriously, it’s worth it.
  • Underestimates my distance no matter what changes I make

I want this app to work so bad. I’m no pro, but if this app is anywhere near accurate then all of the distance analyzers at ranges I’ve been to have been doubling my distance. Using my 9 iron, I know I usually lie somewhere from 110-120+. With this app I barely ever break 60. Even when I know I make perfect contact and know I hit a bomb, I’ve never hit over 100 with my 9 iron on this app.

I got an iPhone 11, I’ve tried everything between lighting and setups, quadruple checked the cm height I’m put in the app, and nothing can get me to break 80 when at the range yesterday. Idk if it’s because I’m a taller dude and I have a relatively slower shot than a lot of people to focus more on control, but all I know is im gonna trust the thousands of dollars range analyzers and the fact that I can pretty consistently hit my 9 iron onto the green on a 120 yard par 3.

If this app could be anywhere around accurate I’d change it to 5 stars, there’s nothing else out there with this concept. But unfortunately nothing I’ve done has fixed this issue.

  • Most recent update seems to break pairing

Just updated the app and now I can no longer get my iPad to work as the sub monitor for putting. Recognizes the QR code but doesn’t seem to link data.
