  • Don’t wait and watch your kiddos mental health

Little Otter saved my family! Our youngest child had a really rough year and the pediatrician wanted just to wait and see if it went away. I knew in my heart that this was not right. I found Little Otter through a co-worker and they confirmed that you shouldn’t just watch and wait for the anxiety to go away. The care we have received is outstanding and the providers have the best training.
  • Amazing Care, Happy Family

As a parent of a toddler, Little Otter has been a game changer. I was able to get mental health care for my child quickly. Other clinics and hospitals have given me wait times of months. I was able to schedule the welcome call within days and begin care shortly after. The quality of care is also amazing. The amount of rigor that goes into their scientific approach can be seen through their therapy sessions. The assessment was lengthy and can feel daunting, but I actually like that the company is invested in learning about my family, not just my child. I think it’s totally worth the upfront investment. This is what high quality mental health care should look like.
  • Not as good as in-person therapy

Our family used little otter for about 8 months. Initially it was the only help available as almost every in-person provider working with kids was completely booked, which is why I gave two stars. However, my child was distracted during sessions pushing buttons, refusing to get on zoom…there was just so many effective ways to avoid the “work” of therapy not in-person.

The worst part about little otter is that they refused to give me an ICD and CPT code on the superbill therefore rendering it completely useless. My insurance covers mental health and would have reimbursed me, but all insurances have to have a code in order to file. Just because my child doesn’t have a specific diagnosis, they said they couldn’t give me a code even though there are about 70,000 codes to choose from. So you’re telling me that out of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people in therapy that we are somehow terribly unique that not a single insurance code could apply? They were uncaring about finding a code and solution. Why would they care since they get my money out of pocket and this doesn’t effect them? Overall, this was extremely expensive, minimally effective, and not open to solving your individual problems.
  • Disappointing

Really feels like a scam. Had a nice intake, but terrible follow thru. Asked the same basic question to the person who did the intake, a customer service rep, and a supervisor and everyone seemed to be just replying off a script/or was just a robot. Very frustrating. At their price point I would expect a little more attention to detail and attempt to listen to what the client is asking. Fortunately there are plenty of other great counseling options to choose from, this is not a new concept. Unfortunately the $90 spent on the intake was a complete waste.

  • Insurance

This company doesn’t take insurance. They give you paperwork to take to your insurance company to file yourself and then possibly get reimbursed that way. They don’t tell you in the beginning, which I feel is misleading. They got my information before I understood this. Now I will receive emails I don’t need or want. :/ The initial fee is $200, but if they took insurance my fee would only be $20. They’re out of range for most insurance, I have excellent coverage through Cigna. It is only a possibility you will be reimbursed through your insurance. Not telling people this information before they take your information seems awry.

  • Can’t get past the lack of customer service

My experience with little otter had only been frustrating. They will not call you. The only interaction is with emails and through the app. I have had multiple appointments cancelled because of a “staff shortage” I have not only wasted money that was paid for my INTRO CALL but my time. All the while my child has had zero help. Two weeks have passed with zero connection. The hours available are only “during school hours”. Which means I have to have my child miss school to be present for the ONLY time slots available. Maybe update your information to say- we will not call you on the phone if you would like care get used to just communicating through an app. Also maybe update the app to not log you out every time you’re not in it. This causes ZERO notifications to pop up- no reminders- no chat messages- nothing. That is so incredibly frustrating and it shows that this is a brand new company. News flash- when a client is coming prepared with assessments already in hand and a specific requested doctor that they want - you might want to skip a “welcome call” with a random person who I won’t actually speak with again and maybe not charge $90 for this call that literally does not help the client it only helps the company “little otter”. I’m deleting the app and I hope someone else who is considering getting help for their child sees this and understands they literally don’t want to help- it’s to drag out the process as long as possible and to take money. I’m over it.

Hi Imgunnalikya! We appreciate the candid feedback and would welcome an opportunity to gather additional feedback on your experience thus far. - please email help@littleotterhealth.com and we can find a time to chat! In the meantime I would love to provide some clarity about our service. As a healthtech company we champion the use of our products features - such as in-app messaging - that has proven to be an efficient method to provide swift, secure responses with our families. Regarding availability, to-date we have not cancelled a family’s session due to “staff-shortage” and as a child-focused service we absolutely have after-school hours available for scheduling. I apologize if there was confusion during your time with us and hope to chat soon.
