  • Great for Road Trips

I have used this app on every road trip I have taken over the past two+ years. I have discovered unique and interesting sights that I wouldn’t have seen without this app.
I hit the road, find spots on the map and am never disappointed.
  • Disappointing

I was excited to use the Atlas Obscura app since I’ve been using the website to plan trips for years. However, the app crashes and logs me out, without fail, every time I attempt to use it. Plus a similar issue to another review I read: when I tried to run it without location permissions it would simply crash as soon as I clicked not to use location. I finally just said to use location, only to have it crash on the next page instead. I have an older iPhone but I can’t imagine what would be so complex about this app that it simply cannot run.
  • Adventurers Must

I’ve been using this Ap for years and years. Before it was an Ap, I’d have it open in a browser and keep hitting refresh. But I love traveling and this Ap is a one stop shop to find everything rad. I can’t say enough about this Ap.
  • Needs a lot of work

Ok, first off - no scaling for iPad? Please remove iPad as compatibility, then. That’s table stakes for app development at this point.
Finally got in, know of a few listings in my area so tried to pull them up and saw a bubble, but nothing would come up. I’ve deleted the app and will continue to use their website…driving more ad traffic I’m sure…so where’s the motivation for a good mobile app folks? Put some more effort into this and put a couple bucks on the price.
  • So interesting!!

Best app to learn the back story or find interesting sites near you or along the way during your travels! I have learned so much and turned my kids into sleuths as we travel! Fun way to engage your kids as you explore!
  • #1 resource for travel

Love this site!! I use it everywhere I travel and enjoy seeing and experiencing more things than the average tourist. I am always amazed at the awesome Sites and little known destinations that they have compiled. I even used it near my house in upstate New York and despite living in the area for 44 years, still found cool places I’d never heard of or been to. I tell everyone that is going anywhere to use Atlas Obscura
  • Great app but very buggy

I absolutely swear by using this app when I travel to find amazing sightseeing and experiences and real world "Easter eggs"... but it isn't without its frustrastions:

    - Currently, newly marked places I've visited no longer give me a grey flag. This makes it confusing to see where I should go next. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling even, to no avail.
    - After awhile with the app in use, you'll get an error message "something went wrong" and can't mark anything, and you'll need to restart the app and refind the location to mark. I've had this problem since I started using this a whole year ago and it is still not resolved!!

Also, as a suggestion, I like that places that are permanently closed are still featured, but could be helpful to give them a distinguished color marker, like red or something (but still allow gray flag for those who visited before shutdown).

Also, when clicking "Directions", it uses my Google Maps, but would be nice if it have me the option to use Apple Maps instead (like Happy Cow app lets me do).

I want to give it 5 stars, but these bugs sometimes break my flow while I'm exploring.

    Developer Response

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. We're working on fixes for precisely these issues with map markers and error that you mention, as well as better indicators on the map about what you're seeing. In the meantime please feel free to reach out at appfeedback@atlasobscura.zendesk.com if there's anything else you'd like to discuss or add. Thanks!
  • Needs work

I’ve only been working with the app for a couple of hours but I’m finding it very difficult to navigate. It’s not intuitive, its slow and clunky. I’m finding basic tasks, like adding the countries I’ve been to, really hard to complete. Maybe it’s me, and I just need more time with it but I still feel like it shouldn’t be this hard to work with.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the feedback! We'd love to learn more about your experience so we can consider potential improvements. Please reach out to appfeedback@atlasobscura.com if you'd be up for sharing more thoughts.
  • So many places to see!

This app works well and the information is great! I have so many places I want to see and so many I’ve seen and I can put both in separate lists.
  • I love this app so much

I travel a lot for work and my photography hobby, and I *love* going to the places I see on this app. Doing so helps me learn about the history, architecture, ecosystems, and sometimes reveals photo opportunities I wouldn’t have found on my own. It also keeps growing as people add sites so if I go to the same city multiple times there are sometimes new suggestions to check out. I love it!
