Good app but difficult to use the default mapping app
Unclear how to change the default mapping app to Apple Maps when choosing the “Get Directions” option

I love this app! On a recent cross-country road trip, I kept the app open and checked it throughout the day. We found so many interesting spots to visit that we would have missed had it not been for AO. Some historic, some fun & quirky.
One of my favorite apps, not optimized on newer iPhones
I recently had to get a new phone due to my old one crapping out on me and just opened this app for the first time on it. Unfortunately it is almost unusable on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I guess the UI doesn't account for the cutout at the top not being there anymore which causes the search bar to be stuck behind the clock, battery, and middle blob thing at the top of the screen and therefore inaccessible.
Hopefully they can fix this so that I can search for things in places I plan to visit soon!

Places submitted. Never respond
I’ve sent in multiple places with photos and websites. No response. Really disappointing. They also reject things [ ie abandoned hotel on an island) but choose stupid things that are about as obscure as white bread.
What this app needs is better vetting, better responses and at least one person that could answer email.

Amazing stories and places
I love the stories about the unusual places and sometimes bizarre things people build and eat from all over the world. (Love the podcast too). But the app and website have some issues. The main irritation being that the photos are impossible to zoom into, (I have bad eyesight). Also the phone app is a bit buggy meaning I can’t always click on to an article from the email. Technical issues have caused the loss of a star.

Getting better but a few annoying issues
1. The app forgets places you’ve been
2. It takes a long time after you open the app to load the places you’ve been
3. It seems there is a certain distance from where you are after which it never shows where you’ve been. For example, it never shows that I’ve been to places in New Zealand and Australia. The limit seems to be 2,000 km. I know this because it loads places in northern Croatia but not the southern part of the country.

Great for Road Trips
I have used this app on every road trip I have taken over the past two+ years. I have discovered unique and interesting sights that I wouldn’t have seen without this app.

They never respond
I'm actually really disappointed in this app. So much potential. They are terrible at getting back to you and when you submit places around the world, they just don't add them. Some of the ridiculous things they've got make no sense and when you submit a truly obscure place or historical site that no one knows about they don't even respond.

Disappointing
I was excited to use the Atlas Obscura app since I’ve been using the website to plan trips for years. However, the app crashes and logs me out, without fail, every time I attempt to use it. Plus a similar issue to another review I read: when I tried to run it without location permissions it would simply crash as soon as I clicked not to use location. I finally just said to use location, only to have it crash on the next page instead. I have an older iPhone but I can’t imagine what would be so complex about this app that it simply cannot run.

Adventurers Must
I’ve been using this Ap for years and years. Before it was an Ap, I’d have it open in a browser and keep hitting refresh. But I love traveling and this Ap is a one stop shop to find everything rad. I can’t say enough about this Ap.
