Description of Novelist

Over 140k authors are already writing their next masterpiece using Novelist. And it's completely free: no initial cost, zero advertising and no in-app purchases! Sounds ambitious? Yes, it is. We don't want you to conform to some framework or methodology, but to provide you the best tools to plot, write, organize and schedule your stories. - Plot - is when you list all the elements of your story, like on a board. Items can be edited, moved, merged, splitted, reordered and deleted. You can even set a status, write notes and texts or add tags, metadata and pictures to each item. Categories are completely customizable, as are metadata and statuses. - Write - is when you put all the items together to compose scenes. Each scene is a piece of your story and can be annotated or written directly in our app! - Organize - is when you structure your scenes in acts, parts, chapters and so on. Your imagination is the limit. - Schedule - is when you set your goals: word count or due date. Advanced features: ▪ Generate and use templates when creating new books ▪ Backup and restore locally or in cloud ▪ Book compilation in EPUB, ODT or HTML format ▪ Complete book preview without leaving the application ▪ Rich text editor with format, counters, find/replace and autosave ▪ Mention your items inside texts ▪ Insert and review annotations in texts ▪ View and restore previous text versions ▪ Comfortable night mode

Reviews of Novelist

  • Great but one thing.

This is an awesome app best of the best. But I have one thing that you cannot write with Apple Pencil! Every app I tried was not as good as this one but they all could use Apple Pencil! Most of them were with money or adds or just weren’t good enough! But all of them had Apple Pencil allowed. So please add Apple Pencil and then I would be able to call this the perfect writing app. But other than that this is the best writing app ever! Very good writing app.

P.S please add Apple Pencil so I can write with it too!
  • BEST APP EVER!

So, I am absolutely in LOVE with Novelist. It’s very well made and the formats are impeccable. When I first saw the app, I was worried and suspected it was too good to be true. All of that changed when I gave it a download. I am an avid author and writing is my passion, so nothing makes me happier than stuff like this. I first went in and it gave me a quick tutorial. Afterward, I clicked on Add A Book and made the title, also choosing a cover. I had just begun the book on Notability, and so I copy pasted it and organized it into the scenes on Novelist. OBSESSED. You can add tags for scenes, characters, locations, props, and more. After planning out my main characters I was shocked and excited about the awesome character building designs. After writing a quick bio I could choose a profile pic, add tags, make RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER CHARACTERS 🤯, add additional names and notes! I could create locations, props, events, and more. I was stricken with excitement. But let me introduce you to the best thing of all.
    METADATA.
With Metadata I could add physical features, ages, and super in depth stuff without having to write it myself in the synopsis. I am obsessed, and if you are thinking about getting it, stop hesitating.
  • Great app, with one small caveat

I’ve been using this app for several months now and it has proven wildly helpful. While working on a story outline I’ll often have random details for a scene pop into my head, so being able to quickly and easily jump to that chapter and scene in my outline and jot down notes is a serious timesaver. It also has one of the best and most robust character profile creators of any app I’ve tried. I love the ability to quickly fill in metadata from preexisting categories or create my own. The only conn, as other reviews have pointed out, is the lack of automatic synching between devices. You can manually synch by creating a backup on one device and restoring from that backup on your other devices, but that’s a bit tedious. For that reason, I don’t write directly in the app, but again, great for outlining and organizing a story.
