FindPaintColor User Reviews

Great app, it works

The bad reviews are wrong. They don’t know how to read instructions. Follow the examples and it works incredibly well. Thank you for creating this app.

Response from developer

And thanks to you, for taking the time to post this review. FindPaintColor does not prompt for reviews, so this is highly appreciated.

Not the app’s fault

My mistake. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about color profiling will find this app useful, but it isn’t what I need. When I googled the phrase “color matching app from photo” this app came up as a choice. You can take a photo with the app, but I had a difficult time figuring out what to do afterwards. I wanted something basic. I’m sure this app would be great for someone that wants or needs more.

Hi Pebbles: As per the previous review, sounds like you were also looking for an app that finds a match for a color from an uploaded photo. As mentioned on the Product Page, on the Web Site, and within the app, FindPaintColor it works only from a photo you take within the app, of both your unknown color and a specified white chip, as is required to get good accuracy. It is being used in this manner by thousands of users. No knowledge of color profiling or anything else technical is required - one just needs to follow the few simple steps shown in the app, and as also shown in the brief App Walkthru video at findpaintcolor.com. It would be appreciated if you could indicate where/how you came to expect the app to work from an uploaded photo, if you have a moment, either here or by email to support@findpaintcolor.com... Thanks..

Should have read reviews- wasted $3.00

My mistake. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about color profiling will find this app useful, but it isn’t what I need. It’s comes up at a color match app from a photo. There’s a lot more to it than that.

Cannot upload photo

As others have stated, this app is terrible. It’s not intuitive. You cannot upload your own photo. I shouldn’t hold have read reviews. I’m disappoint this app was listed as a top result for color matching photos.

Hi PDO2000: As mentioned in the Product Page, and on the Web Site, and within the App, FindPaintColor works from a photo taken within the app with a specified white chip, as is required to achieve accurate color matching, and is in wide use by thousands of folks in this manner. But it does NOT accept uploaded photos, because this would not allow accurate color matching.  Would you be able to indicate the search method that lists FindPaintColor as a top result for 'color matching photos'? The usual popular search engines do not ....

It really works.

I recently moved into a resale home that is less than a year old. Since it has the original builder paint job it is a very thin coat and it got a few scratches while moving in.
I emailed the builder’s rep for our development to ask him what brand and color pain they used. I hadn’t heard back from in for a few days so I downloaded this app.
When using the app, I determined that my color was SW 7008- Alabaster. I went to Lowe’s yesterday and bought a quart and it’s a great match. Then today I finally heard back from the builder…they used SW 7008- Alabaster!
I thought the app was very intuitive and easy to use, and most of all….ACCURATE!

Hi Rxdtyart: Thanks so much for the detailed review! FindPaintColor does not hassle for reviews, so it is very highly appreciated that you went above the call to write this up!

doesn’t work how one would expect

you can’t upload an image to detect colors. it doesn’t have baseline white chips already in the app, you have to go get them & take a photo with (complicated) specific instructions. not helpful for regular people.

Response from developer

Hi LuckyGirl: FindPaintColor works only by taking an in-app photo with a known white chip, as the Product Page says, so it can provide accurate color matching by measuring ambient light. It is intended for those needing an accurate match, but not wanting to invest in an external colorimeter. There are solutions that work from an existing photo, but they can only provide an approximate guess as to the color. Thanks for taking the time to review.

No. No. NO!

Friends-I own a software company. I have worked with computers for over 20 years and after an hour trying to find some way to upload a photo I simply quit. Caveat Emptor! This one is bad/real bad. I should have read the reviews-that’s my mistake.

Response from developer

As per the previous comment, FindPaintColor is not intended to work with external photos - and works only with photos taken within the app with a known white chip (as the Product Page says). This allows it to measure ambient light, as required to achieve high color matching accuracy with the iPhone camera, without requiring an external color measurement sensor.

Terrible app

This app is just terrible. There’s nobody that actually buys this then uses it. You can even upload photos. You can only take Live Photos. Junk.

Response from developer

It is unfortunate that FindPaintColor did not meet your expectations, but the Product Description says clearly that it works by taking in-app photos (and that is how it achieves the high accuracy that it does). And correct - it is not intended to work with photos taken outside the app. Although a small fraction of folks (way less than 1%) have had issues, please be assured that FindPaintColor is in wide daily use across North America, accurately finding the closest standard paint colors without the aggravation of finding matching color chips or bringing in a sample, and used by more and more people every day (thanks!). The 3 minute video on findpaintcolor.com gives a good idea of the app in use, and typical accuracy.

Waste of money

This app has been a disappointment, wasting both time and money. I strongly advise against using it. I'm planning to contact Apple to request its removal.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear that the app did not work out well for you. Would you be able to be more specific about what went wrong, either here or at support@findpaintcolor.com? Please be assured that the app is in wide daily use across North America, and it really does find accurate matches for unknown paint colours, and the negative reviews reflect way less than 1% of users. It would be appreciated to get specific details of your experience, so it can be improved to satisfy 100% of users. Thanks in advance.

Doesn’t work

The app told me that the blue I was looking for was a white colour. I tried it multiple times with the same results. Not worth the purchase!

Response from developer

Hello Thanks for reporting this. There is indeed a previously-unnoticed problem with the app, in which it misbehaves on certain specific vivid blue/green colours (such as Dulux 'Jamaican Sea'). This is being corrected, and an update is planned for the coming days, mid-November 2023. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks again for reporting.   Nov 20 2023: Version 2.4.2, which corrects this problem, is now shipping, and the app should update to this automatically.
