  • Not what I was expecting

First, the ULTRA DOES NOT SUPPORT APPLE AIRPLAY! Show stopper in my opinion.

Second, it might be because of #1, but getting my iPhone to control both iTunes and the WiiM Ultra has been confusing and cumbersome. Do you connect it via Bluetooth? Good luck trying to make that work easily every time. Maybe AirPlay via another device like you tv? Better but doesn’t sound as good as Bluetooth (which it should). Maybe it’s a setting? Good luck being a novice and trying to reconfigure the WiiM…not gonna happen.

I have $1,000 NAD amplifier and 1,500 Wharfedale floor standing speakers and subwoofer. I bypassed the WiiM and hooked up a $100 Pyle amplifier with Bluetooth and honestly it sounded better than the WiiM (via AirPlay via my TV via optical input).

If you like this kinda electrical engineering with your iPhone, this is a great challenge. As for me, it’s going back and I’m going to find something else with easier hookup because all I want to do is sit down and listen to great music and unwind. WiiM Ultra doesn’t deliver for me.

  • Masterly in Improvement…

It’s amazing, simply beyond my expectations. The versatility and power of the PEQ, along with the personalized and automated room correction, are outstanding. What truly makes it exceptional is the constant support and updates, which are always received with great enthusiasm and curiosity. I love their passion for striving for excellence! As a former perfectionist, this was the best purchase I could have made. Thank God I switched to the most advanced version of WiiM Pro Plus just in time. I hope they continue to bless my Christian music experience and, in turn, receive blessings from God for their hard work.

  • Sounds very good

I replaced an Auris BluMe with a WiiM Pro plus and was very pleased. The Bluetooth sound is even better than the highly hyped BluMe-without noise or interference. I use an iPad as a remote and it is quite convenient. I’m new to streaming but the sound is quite pleasant with my St70 and Klipschorns. I love the equalizer in the app, but wish there was an easier way to get to it. I am very pleased with the ongoing development of the app. Well Done!

  • Mostly awesome

I love the app and the interface is extremely intuitive. My only issue is that there are frequent updates and depending on the update sometimes it takes a while to find my devices and other times it finds them instantly. This seems to change on the latest update. Otherwise, I love the integration with my system and the ability to effortlessly sync music among multiple devices.

  • Great except for one shortcoming…

I love the app and would much rather use it for all my music listening, particularly my high rez stuff. BUT, for those of us with a lot of music, in my case well over 30k tracks, who prefer to listen much of the time in shuffle mode, we must use AirPlay, with its inherent sonic limitations, because the WiiM app’s option to shuffle randomly is limited to a very small portion of my library, i.e. a portion of my tracks beginning with the letter “A.” I had enquired about this, but was not made aware of any plans of addressing this issue in the future.

  • Most important aspect to fix

Got this wiiM working, with direct cable connection to network extender node. Rock solid, powers up quite quickly. I use my own DAC, so the user interface on the app is paramount value. There is one issue, perhaps I’m missing something, but selecting and re-ordering NEXT TO PLAY, seems to be a set of recordings that the Wiim ultimately chooses from random, not a definitive playlist in the order selected.

So again, enable a ‘next to play’ list that can be re-ordered. My device seems to do whatever it wants and randomly selects from this list.

  • Great streamer

Technical specs apart which all streamers tend to have, sound gain is high so my amplifier is able to project fine nuances out. Stereo separation is also perceptible even with speakers within close range of each other.

App is fairly intuitive and friendly and set up is also fairly simple out of the box.

Remote is a nice product as well although it can have a few more presets.

Tactile buttons in front are a bit difficult to see or operate as they are not painted in white nor illuminated.

Unit is well designed and can be easily placed anywhere without taking too much space.

Supplied cables are good too with good terminals and flexible cords that don’t seem cheap at all. Packaging is also very good.

Overall a great product for current day streaming needs.

  • Hot flaming garbage

The WiiM device has the potential to be an incredibly good value in the HiFi streaming space. It sounds fantastic and does have a bunch of junk I don’t need like a useless DAC. I love this device… or the incredibly rare occasion I can actually get it working. The App unfortunately is garbage. The app can see that the device is connected to my network. It even shows me the name of my network. The same network my phone is connected to. The App however can find and connect to the device, which means I can’t use it for any of the great potential functions. The Beta Mac OS App find the device first try every time, but that doesn’t yet have the streaming services baked in so I still can’t use it to play Tidal. The reason I bought the device in the first place. I reached out to customer service and after two full days of waiting for a response, they told me to try the same exact troubleshooting as laid out in the app for when things aren’t working. Great, thanks, like I didn’t already try that 25+ times. I informed them I had already tried that repeatedly… crickets. No reply. Don’t waste your time or money with WiiM.
