Always pushing…

You to be getter, but I seriously love this APP and miss Music Memos…please just take and improve on their platform as well…I feel like so many more humans are musically gifted, but we need a resource to pursue our being-ness…and you guys are a step in that direction, so thanks!!!

Simple and intuitive

I like it for recording song ideas.
I can put all of the same song in one mix tape and then have another mix tape for all my finished songs.
Text and photos attached is great!!

A nice notepad for music ideas

So far I’m really liking this — it replicates most of what Music Memos did well (simple recording, logical organization) and adds some nice new features, within a very clean UI. I wouldn’t mind a metronome and maybe the ability to play back an existing track while recording (through earbuds/headphones), though at some point it would start to bleed into GarageBand territory. I can see getting plenty of use out of this for getting down ideas quickly.

Glad you like it. You can actually play music while you record, through earbuds or via speaker. Just play a tape as you record - the player stays visible on the record screen. Open for suggestions on how to make this more intuitive, but now that you know that it’s possible let me know how you like it! - Thomas

Good app but needs a few added features

I’ve seen in the previous review the developers are working on adding a trim feature, grouping or folders, and better instrument detection. This is currently a pretty basic recording app but after the new updates it could be a five star app. I do like that you can easily add markers to your recordings. Ideally I would love to be able to take a long recording and break it into multiple shorter separate clips. Sometimes I want to record an entire session and then divide it into parts.

Thank you for your review - it's always good to hear it, even if you repeat things others may have already written. It gives us a good idea of what to focus on. Grouping/folders will come very soon (we call our folders Mixtapes, and they're more like playlists, so you can have your recording in more than one Mixtape). Trim feature is also on our roadmap, and should land relatively soon. Breaking a long recording into separate recordings has been on our list almost since day one, but we're still a bit unsure how to implement it. Should these break-outs retain a link to their original recording, or are they displayed like any other recording? It also gets really important once we add better sharing; we know that people often only want to share a section of a recording, not the entire one. All this to say that breaking up long recordings into shorter ones will come, but we're still a bit unsure about its design, so it will take a little while.

Background recording support please!

Great simple app, but would love to be able to keep recording when this app is not in the foreground

Tape It is able to record in the background. It can get interrupted by phone calls or other apps asking to use the audio system, but other than that, it will record in the background just fine. Can you send me an email to thomas@tape.it so we can look deeper into the issue?

Good start

The app seems like a good start but would benefit from some more development. As is, it’s basically voice memos with notes, which is an important improvement over voice memos, but could be better.

I think that for the purpose of songwriting it would really help to have some way to group or make folders so I could keep all my draft recordings for a single song organized.

Nice work, one feature request…

The ability to add an audio file to write/record over. A simple two track recorder to create references from the device.

Thank you for your feedback. This is already on our list, but it will take a few months until we will have added it. It‘s not complicated on a technical level, just hard to get right without making the UI overly complicated. But we promise that we‘ll add it!

Wonderful and simple

It’s a wonderful app, and makes me feel much less weird about Music Memos being discontinued. Good, simple and easy to use. The things that pop out though is that the instrument detection seems iffy. I’m taking notes with an acoustic guitar and it hasn’t understood that’s what I’m playing. Which makes me think that I’d much rather just set it myself if I could. Also, the things that jump out are that I wish I could trim recordings, and also it’d be nice to be able to organize clips into groups so if you had a number of different ideas for one project you could have a group to just hear/see all those, for instance. Other than that I think it’s quite nice so far.

Hi candlesayshi, Thank you so much for your honest review. We're working on improving the instrument detection, but you'll soon also be able to set the instrument yourself. Trimming is quite high on our list, too, and I think you'll be excited to hear that we are already working on groups and will bring out an update, soon. Simple and fast recording app

I like quickly capturing sounds and this app makes it simple. I would like to see a few advanced settings like external microphone connections, microphone gain, and the ability to note what microphone was used. That would take the app to next level. Ideally this app should be on the iPad too. I use the iPad for music recording.
