Spillt

I love this app! I can save any recipe from anywhere: Instagram, Facebook, website... And the most important is a FREE APP! There is no any payment required like in other similar apps. Thank you!

Just missing a few features!

This app would be near perfect if only they added an option to sort by tags in addition to collections. This is especially important to me since I cook seasonally. Instead of having to add one recipe to multiple relevant collections, I would love to be able to filter recipes from one collection by “fall - pasta - one pot” or something like that.

Also, I think it’s necessary to be able to manually input some recipes added from links online for sites whose format is difficult to parse. It has been impossible for me to import recipes from some sites.

Other than that I love the app!

Thanks so much for the feedback! We are actually working on a desktop version as we speak, so you should hopefully see that available in the next month or so. We would've loved to launch web sooner, but it's still just two of us running Spillt so we've had to be selective about the new features we prioritize :) Regardless, thank you for the review and let us know if you have any other ideas for making Spillt better!

Love Spillt! Has a few drawbacks

I love Spillt. I’m really happy they added web support, but I wish there were also a browser extension for quickly adding recipes.

In addition to the collections, I wish there were a way to add tags so that you could filter by multiple tags, or apply multiple categories to a recipe without needing to save it to different collections. For example, I might want to have a “pasta” recipe that I can also save as “spring”, “summer” and “easy”. It would be preferable to me to be able to categorize and filter using multiple tags instead of adding it to four separate collections.

Last, I think it’s a drawback that you cannot save instructions when you save from a website. Maybe this was done to preserve web traffic for content creators or maybe it’s too hard to parse a whole page, both of which I completely understand. But because I’m concerned about link rot, I don’t think the app will ever be able to fully replace an actual recipe box or a folder on my computer, which is a little disappointing.

Meal Planning Made Simple

It’s free!!! My family switched from hello fresh back to grocery shopping and this has helped make it just as easy to pick and prepare for meals. We can both look through/add to our collections and then add to the meal plan. Recipes can be copy and pasted from just about any website, even TikTok. Ingredients can all be added right from the recipe to your grocery list.

Too many ads

It seems they have suddenly increased the ads and they appear right in the middle of the recipes. You can’t seem to close many of them out so the app is becoming useless.

Response from developer

Hi there, I believe you reached out over email as well, and to reiterate the point we made in our response there, we (Spillt) have no control over the ads that you're seeing. We simply show you the website you saved (just like a bookmark folder!), so any ad you see is something that a blogger controls on their web page. We totally understand your frustration, however, and that’s why we are working with food bloggers to build new ways for them to monetize in ways other than running ads on their sites!

Just the app I needed!

This app is amazing!! I never usually think to review apps, but I had to for this one. Previously, I had all my recipes saved in my browser, but it was so hard to navigate through those bookmarks. With this app, I can organize all my recipes so well, and easily sort through them because of the large photos of each recipe. Also, it makes it so easy to save my ratings, reviews, and comments on every recipe I’ve made. I love this app so much!

Only app review I’ve ever written!

This app is genius. The design is simple and beautiful and the function is great! Highlights: (1) it’s SO easy to save a recipe immediately if you like it, so no more endless online searching to find “the one we made and loved that time”; (2) paper saved by not printing the recipes I want to keep; (3) getting ideas from other people on the app about which recipes to make and tips on what to do/not; and (4) phone stays open with recipe showing while I’m cooking. Love it!!

Never review apps

I’m always trying out new apps and often find they don’t fulfil my needs, get bored and never use them again.
I love this app as it’s intuitive, makes cataloguing my recipes easy in one place.
Can’t praise it enough. Well done guys.
Not only have I saved all my recipes fro bookmarks and URLs with my own personal notes to remind me of my changes, I’ve taken the time to upload recipes from books I use regularly in the same way.
Ideally, a great addition would be text recognition for ingredients so you don’t have to type them out. I just add instructions as images so that’s nice and easy but could use the same text Recognition for this section too if you would rather than them step by step instead of a single image from a book.
Not a criticism though as it works great for me!

And we love that you called out saving cookbook recipes with text recognition... that is exactly the next feature we're working on. Just Brilliant

My phone was clogged up with pages of saved recipe bookmarks, and then I discovered this app! It’s absolutely fantastic. Such a simple but clever idea. I love how you can save recipes directly from the internet without having to go into the app. I also love how you can submit thumbnail images to be reviewed if, for whatever reason, they don’t automatically save. AND I love that it takes you to the original recipe on the internet.
