Reviews of Samsung Food

  • Useful and User-Friendly

I’ve used this app for several years, and overall I think it’s super useful! It’s easy to save online recipes, and adding your own recipes manually is pretty quick, too! The meal planner is a great tool, and the shopping list organizes your groceries by type so it’s easy to use in the store. So good!

    My only two complaints are:
    1) There’s no longer an option to take a photo of a recipe and add it to the app. (Maybe for copyright issues?)
    2) There’s no way to print a recipe you have manually entered. I’d like to print my homemade recipes from the app in the future!

  • Great app, bad name, some room for improvement

This is a great app with a lot of potential that has made my and my partner’s lives a lot easier. It’s completely changed how we do meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking. So yay for that. But… I don’t understand why they changed the name from Whisk to Samsung Food. Whisk was a perfectly good (even great!) name. Samsung Food is an objectively bad name and I can only guess they wanted to bring more visibility to their own brand by changing it, which is silly because no one looking for a meal planning app will think “you know what I’m looking for in this department? Samsung.” Also, I wish, when there’s a substitute in an ingredient from your recipe, it was visible on your shopping list so that if you’re at the grocery store and they don’t have your ingredient, you can at least see what the alternatives are and look for those. I also wish it let you edit other people’s recipes (the app doesn’t let me do that). And if you make a week’s meal plan, there should be one button you tap to make a shopping list out of that plan. Currently it makes you add each individual recipe to the meal plan. But overall, it really is a great app that I highly recommend to people in my life, I hope they keep developing and refining it!
  • It’s okay, could be better

The UI is nice enough. I like how easy it is to collect recipes usually from the pages online. The add ingredients to shopping list is pretty standard for a recipe collection app and works well. I like the almost allrecipes vibe where you can see other people who have made the recipes comments, their adjustments, and weather they liked or dislike the recipe.

What I don’t like however is that you have to leave the app for the directions which is a waste of time. What is the point of copying the recipe when you have to “leave the app” (you’re directed to the directions webpage of the cooking blog within the app) to view instructions? So instead of it being neat and clean in app like the ingredients you have to scroll through all the cooking blog fluff where they talk about nothing before telling you what they did. For me this lack of a feature limits the use. There are other apps that also copy the directions and leave the link to the external site if you choose. I don’t understand why this app can’t accomplish that as well.

I came back to this app after receiving an email about how a lot had changed since I last used the app. I didn’t notice anything different. Overall decent app with just too inconvenient of a flaw for me to replace my other similar apps.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Whisk is designed to honor the original recipe creator who has invested time and money in creating the recipes we all love. This is why we intentionally do not import instructions but rather link to the original recipe source. Please get in touch via support@whisk.com with any questions and we will gladly assist.
