Update suggestions

Hi,

Can’t find where to delete some recipes from my albums.

Also, I have lots of cookbooks and I would love to be able to upload photos of the recipes (without sharing them) so that it helps me when I create my menu.

Response from developer

Hey there! Thanks so much for the review. We're working on making it clearer where you delete a recipe from your collections, but if you just tap that "Add to..." button when viewing the recipe you want to delete, there's an option to delete the recipe from all collections at the bottom of the menu. And we also hear you on the cookbook recipes! That's definitely a part of our near term plan so hopefully more to come on that :) Feel free to reach out if you ever have any feedback down the road at feedback@spillt.co.

Great recipe manager

Really enjoying this app so far! Saving recipes I see on Instagram, blogs etc and categorising them to come back to later is useful and fun.

Suggestion: would be great if we can choose/change the cover photo of recipes we import as the chosen image isn’t always the best or is zoomed in on a wall!

Response from developer

Hey Emily - so happy to hear you're enjoying the app! And you actually can request a cover photo of a recipe to be changed. If you open a recipe in Spillt, tap the "..." menu in the top right corner and tap "Submit recipe edit". If you ever have any other ideas to make Spillt better, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Bad Start

You want my phone number before I’ve had a chance to even check it out.
Too intrusive!

Hey David! We understand that giving out your phone number isn't everyone's cup of tea. We require phone number because we are trying to build a safe community that emphasizes kindness and trust. We've found that requiring phone number is the best and easiest way to keep out trolls and fake accounts in the early days (we've been live less than a year and are just a team of two!). We're in the process of adding Apple and Google sign in, and will keep those as alternatives to phone number sign in as long as we don't see an increase in trolls and rude comments on Spillt :)

A Great Resource for Social Recipe Sharing

Spillt makes it easy to share recipes and find recipes I’d never find otherwise. I can seamlessly “share “ a recipe I find on the web directly to the app without leaving the web page. People also post reviews of recipes they make which is helpful as well. It’s easy to organize recipes into custom “collections” I create. It’s a great app especially when I can see what my friends are saving as well.

Thank you so much for the kind words! We're glad to hear you're enjoying it.

No more bookmarks!

This is a great concept. Love being able to put all the links for recipes I use in to one app. Don’t have to go to bookmarks anymore, and it’s seamless to use. Not really in to the social/sharing aspect of the app, but I see how it could be fun if you have multiple friends on there. For now just a great way to keep all my recipes from the internet (and not a cookbook) in one place!

Hi Rachelbowd, thank you for the review! We know that some users might not be into the social aspect, but glad you're getting value from it regardless. Thanks for being a fan, and please reach out to hi@spillt.co if you ever have any ideas to make Spillt better!

Great start - few tweaks needed

Such a bloomin good idea for an app! So handy to have all my recipes in one place with the credits still going to the original author!
My only criticisms - I get a lot of recipes in the feed in a different language from different countries. Would be handy to have a filter option to be able to choose the location? When searching for recipes online I search for UK so the measurements and ingredients are what I can work with. Might be handy for vice versa too.
Instagram posts - when using the search function or scrolling through the home page there’s so many good looking recipes but if they’re saved from Instagram you can’t view or save them without logging in to Instagram each time. I just scroll past them now as I don’t want to log in each time.
Aside from that it’s a great app and I gets loads of meal inspiration 🤩

Hi Chez8686, thank you so much for the thoughtful review! We're a new app so we're extremely appreciative of all your well articulated feedback. We completely hear you on the recipes in other languages. We recently launched internationally, so it's obviously a brand new situation that we have so recipes in various languages. We definitely plan on making those easier to filter out, as well as tools for metric conversions. Regarding Instagram posts, we're actually working on improvements as we speak! We're somewhat restricted because we're showing Instagram reels in a web view (vs in Instagram's app), which is where the clunkiness comes from. One interim solution that we're building is a button that allows you to quickly jump to the Instagram app to watch a reel, as well as pull out the Instagram caption so you can at least see that more clearly. Again, thank you so much for all the thoughtful feedback, and please don't hesitate to reach out to us at hi@spillt.co if you ever have any other ideas or suggestions.

Just a bookmark manager

I thought this was going to import the recipe in some way but it must seems like a glorified bookmark manager? The first recipe I imported just seemed to open up the website within the app, adverts, links and all. What if the website removes the recipe? It will then be lost?

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for your review. You are correct, one piece of our app is a "glorified bookmark manager” –the choice to show the full website was very intentional, as bloggers’ and recipe creators' primary source of income is through website ads and we don't want to detract from that. We're a new, two-person startup so we take our reviews very seriously, and would be happy to hop on the phone with you to share more info about the choice to show the full recipe. Feel free to send an email to hey@spillt.co if you have any more thoughts!

Looks great but can’t upload from the internet

Just downloaded the app and tried to upload my first internet link. But it just hangs until I close down the app. Very frustrating. Have emailed support.

Response from developer

Hi Anh, like we mentioned over email, we’re sorry this was your first experience and it seems like we were seeing an odd bug with Epicurious recipes that we’ve been digging into, but we hope you have a better experience as you continue to use Spillt. Like we said though, please email us if you run into any other issues!

Works like a dream!

Great to be able to save recipes from the web and from Insta - features work well and I’m not sure why the other reviewer complained they couldn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the note!! Glad to hear everything is working for you ☺️ Please let us know if you do run into any issues or have any feedback!

No way to actually share recipes from chrome/safari…..

Can’t actually add anything from the internet. Would have thought this was pretty basic functionality to add before launching the app, basically unusable without this. Design is cute etc though

Response from developer

Hi Pip! So sorry you'e having issues and to your point yes, that is our basic functionality that absolutely should work. We haven't heard of other users having this issue though, so would love to help resolve this and figure out what is happening for you. Would you mind emailing us at support@spillt.co so we can dig in?
