Animoog Z Synthesizer User Reviews

Unique and wonderful

The engine, which is based upon waveform modulation, is conducive to making great sounding patches. If you read the manual and figure out your way around the “Timbers” page, the rest is self explanatory. The his is a great weapon for tweaking with the arp/sequencer running.. much better than an SH101. All the features are great, and it’s made a difference for me.

Unusually great

Most unusually great instrument of the decade. There are many synth apps out on the market today, and some are useful, some not so much. I have paid for quite a number of them, to try and get a good sound. But not one of them has made me actually want to sit with them hours on end, creating new timbres, new shapes in 3D space, smiling the whole time. This is a truly remarkable instrument and new way of thinking about music in general. I only wish that, since we can “record” to make new sounds in the timbres page, that we could have an update to use the original source sound for that timbre. It would be great to be able to record the phase of dragging a hand across a djembe, or a distorted baritone guitar with the saw or sine waves, to make uniquely different timbres of our own in real time. Thank you for this app. It’s a sci fi marvel.

Wireframes Extension Rip Off

$8.00 Bucks for only 4 Wireframe presets ?… I cant decide if it’s highway robbery or a total rip off… DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Response from developer

Hi pooderdown, The Wireframe Plans Expansion Pack comes with 30 presets and 1 timbre. Could it be that you have a tag active in your preset browser, only showing some of the presets? With Leads, Plucked or String active as a tag, only 4 presets out of the 30 display. Unselecting those tags will show all 30. ❤️ your friends at Moog

Gets 5 stars even without buying full version!

This synth is Drone music making heaven.
Even in just the free version it’s incredibly capable and has such an organic life of its own…. I Love it!
Fortunately my birthday is coming up in July and my missus is going to buy it for me 😊
Top app Animoog 👍

Animated, Visual Audio mooged out

Serious piece of kit, this is. Peactically hands-on with low mid and high frequency oscillators that rspond instantly! Possibilities inspiration. Genius re-inented, algorythms and brilliant tweaks, twists, peaks and troughs - all schematically moving, indicating via colour, speed, note, sound or sample what is happening to the soundwaves - in real time. This is like working on a secret NASA project to make contact with aliens. Top marks, developers, designersc and creative/tech nuts behind this outrageously interactive, inventive, reactive 'synth'.
Easy to start with hidden depths that will surprise even the most waxed up plugged-in ears with a new level of exploration. Animated Mood. Animoog.

Where is my original Animoog?

Purchased the MIDI update this week for my Original Animoog, which I’ve owned for years… and I am very unhappy that it has vanished from my available synth apps and is no longer even available to re-download.

This is dreadful business practice and I either want it restored or a full and immediate refund please.

Hi Appalachik, You will find the original Animoog in you past purchases, not in the App Store as we've removed it from sale. We have a dedicated knowledge base document showing exactly how to retrieve it: https://moogmusic-help.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000840620-the-original-animoog-app-is-unavailable-in-the-app-store ❤️ your friends at Moog

Brilliant, fun, and frustrating.

For a unique creative experience, buy it. That's the short version. It's hard to have more fun making music. I started with the original Animoog on some ancient iPhone. *Nothing* can take its place.

But if you plan to use "Background Audio" so you can keep your awesome Moog-y drone in the background, prepare to be frustrated by the amazing keyboard's clumsy interaction with iOS's app switching grab bar. Try to switch to another app, and you'll trigger a key. Have "Hold" on? Good luck.

To see how a music keyboard *should* interact with the grab handle, check out Nanostudio. Or Garage Band. Or BeatMaker. Or... you get the idea.

The devs already know what I'm talking about. *Fix it*.

And bring back Filtatron. What's up with making amazing stuff and then ditching it? Like Animoog, it's brilliant, but it stops just short of being useful (and available). I have a VC-102 in my closet, and I'd be a bit miffed if some Moogian showed up and took it back.

You get all the brilliant stuff right and screw up the easy bits.

With a couple finishing touches, this is a five star app.

All that said, Moog might just pull it from the store for no reason, so don't get attached.

Hi RoryBlyth, Thanks for pointing out some improvements we can make to the keyboard related to the app switcher, we'll definitely evaluate how this can be changed for the better. Filtatron is removed from sale for new customers but still available for download if you previously purchased it. You can find it in your user account in the App Store in the list of your past purchases. We sadly had to make the decision to stop supporting Filtatron due to Apple changing iOS so much that in order for Filtatron to work properly on all newer devices, we had to re-implement a large portion of the app. Regrettably that is not something we're in a position of doing with our small team. ❤️ your friends at Moog

lost in music

I love this app - as a longtime fan of the original Animoog app, I was a little wary of yet another app “upgrade” (having been so disappointed many times before by other developers’ attempts to “improve” an existing app), but my concerns were unfounded. The only thing missing is the 4-track recorder from Animoog, but with inter-app audio and VST AU functionality, maybe Moog felt it wasn’t needed.

Amazing app!

Just one small criticism about the UX. It’s very hard to quit the iOS app as it’s locked on landscape mode. Labels are very small but that, I can live with. The UX needs improvement. Other than that, it’s a great app.

Nothing comes close to this synth

Moog outdid themselves with this monster of a synth with the most comprehensive interface I know of on iOS! The possibilities for modulation, the touch interface, the clear and easy to perceive methods for “creating “ is simply vast and extremely rewarding. If this was hardware I would already own one . But thankfully it exists in software for a very very reasonable price ! Bob would be so proud I know it! Get one immediately! 👽
