Cannot register. Customer service don't help with activation. Hope this is not scam

I purchased a debit card today at Dollar General. I got home, followed the steps on the card regarding the registration steps. I filled out my information, but when I click “complete” (after agreeing to their terms), the website/app just keeps loading, nothing happens after that. I tried it on I pad, iPhone, MacBook, and a windows devise. I tried with mobile data and Wifi. I called the customer service and the automated message tells me my balance, which is accurate. However my money is being kept there while I cannot use it. I talked to somebody from the customer service and they told me that the card cannot be activated over phone, only website/app. I cannot use my own money to pay my bill. I am worrid this may be a scam.

Do not use this app or company

I had bought a spendwell card to use while I waited to get a replacement card and it was the biggest mistake ever I now have 190 dollars sitting on that card that I can’t pull off because my account was denied for not reason I put all my info in correctly so I don’t know why it denied me. I then called customer service and they were no help saying that they don’t know why I was denied and that I can’t reapply. So now I can only use my card as credit and can’t even check my balance. Also if anyone from spendwell sees this don’t tell me to call customer service because they can’t even help anyone. I just want my money back on my actual card

I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with registration. If you’re unable to register your card, your card can still be used for in-store and online card purchases until the funds you initially loaded have run out. You can check the balance on your card at any time by calling the number on the back of your card or by using this link: https://secure.myspendwell.com/retailcard

Still figuring things out.

I originally set up the account per the instructions on the card I bought for my daughter’s field trip. However, I wish there was a way to add that balance back to the account. Unless I’m missing it, I’m not seeing a way to add money without having to go to a store or directly deposit from the bank. This account was set up a week ago and still have not received my spendwell card for the main account. Other than that, I feel this app will really come in handy!

Thank you for the positive review! You can add money to your spendwell account through direct deposit, mobile check capture and adding money by scanning a barcode or swiping your card at various locations (Dollar General, CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Speedway and Walgreens). All ways to add money to your account can be found under the "Money In" tab in the mobile app.

Trash company!!

Trash wouldn’t recommend to anyone at least don’t set up the direct deposit on these card I’ve called customer service multiple times and there no help they locked my card as soon as a job payed me . I ask them how I go about getting my money and they said my card was permanently locked . They apparently can’t send the money back to who sent it or give me my money back . So I’m out of 600 . They couldn’t give me even a valid reason why the card was locked .

Quit Locking Our Accounts

I am so tired of constantly being locked out of my account. Trying to get ahold of anyone who speaks understandable English is nearly impossible. They tell you they unlock your account, you can log in now, and you get the exact same message, “Oops!” Something went wrong, try again later”. Well I guess later never comes because no matter what I’ve done I can’t get back into my account. I had just referred two people to start using Spendwell and both of them are not going to now after telling them all the garbage you constantly have to go through. Sheesh!! Do better!!!

Scam

They make you think you are getting a prepaid card with spendable money on it. Drag you through a very personal “registration” that just creates a bank account for you that you didn’t know you were even doing. After going through all of that nonsense they give you a screen that shows your new bank account with $0 in the account and they claim they are sending you a debit card in the mail. They also give you a temporary virtual card to “use” while you wait but the money that you thought you preloaded onto the card doesn’t actually exist. So you have a new account and they have all of your information and you can’t use the money you “preloaded” at all. Absolute scam of a company if you can even call it a company and Dollar General should be ashamed to even carry such a product. Do not buy any of these cards. I wish there was a way to get this out to more people since they will most likely only be seeing this after being dragged through the terrible process of “registering” the card they bought. Terrible terrible product. They will leave a reply on this review about how sorry they are that they didn’t give a 5 star experience and they would love to help but they won’t. And somehow they have manipulated the reviews on the App Store to show 4.7 stars but when you actually look through the reviews 90% of them are 1 star. DO NOT BUY THESE CARDS!!!

Worst card system

Do not ever buy this if you need to pay a bill.
Super confusing. Denied my registration for no reason and my money is on there and I can’t get it off. I can only spend it in store and I needed it for a specific bill for my phone not to get shut off. Can’t pull the money out of the ATM. Didn’t ever send me one email to verify anything. When you call customer service, there’s nothing they can do about it. I thought I was getting a good deal only paying one dollar to upload the money DONT use this card company!!!

Garbage app and card!! Steer clear!!

Spendwell is crap. I’ve tried multiple times with multiple different emails and always getting declined for an account. I tried my wife’s information for an account and still getting declined. No clue why. I called CS to find out and was told to use a new email and it should let me open an account. Well big surprise, it was declined yet again. Done with trying spendwell and I’ve always referred others to steer clear of this company since day one of this situation. GO2bank is far better and substantially more reliable.

A Joke

The bank is a joke thy will let you think your getting a pre paid bank account and then when you try to register the card it activated it with a “one time use card “ and I can only use it to shop online or at a retail store. I bought the card because it claimed it was a bank account and now they have my money on a card I can’t use for paying a Important bill. They claim they can’t do anything about it. I will never buy another spendwell card and neither will any one I know!

The USA PATRIOT Act requires all financial institutions and their third parties to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an Account. If we are unable to verify your identity, we may not be able to approve your application. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the remaining funds on your starter card, please contact customer care at 833.609.8472.

No access to money

Would give this a lower rating but there is none.
Card was cancelled for fraudulent activity so I have no way of accessing my money until new card arrives. There is no way to transfer or access funds to and from an external account. Bills are due and am unable to pay for gas.
They have no remedy for this situation.

I would not recommend this card to anybody and recommend any potential users to use caution.
