  • Disappointing

If you sort reviews by most recent, they will be almost overwhelmingly negative. That’s because, despite how enjoyable the game is, the devs are making it unplayable through sheer greed. No amount will ever be enough for them, if you don’t have thousands (yes, thousands. You need $600 to guarantee a character and they have at least 4-5 banners a month) of dollars to spend they straight up don’t want you, but at the same time, they lowered the rates even for paying players, to force us to pay even more!

I’m going to have to rate the game 1 star, and it’ll probably stay that way. I used to spend hundreds a month and the way the devs have been treating the player base is just disrespectful, I’ve never regretted spending money on a game so much in my life.

  • Greedy and disappointed

As a fan of OCTOPATH traveler 1, I was looking forward to this new mobile version. Unfortunately, they are making it real hard for people to spend money in this game due to the incredibly low rates of getting a character you want. They have in fact lowered the rate on their current banner to 15% where the same banner in Japan was 50%! Abysmal pricing/low odds. For the same amount of money of MAYBE getting 1 character, you could buy Octopath Traveler 1 and Octopath Traveler 2 instead which will have tons of characters that you don't have to pay to unlock but get with the game. The value is simply not here and it is truly a slap in the face to gamers to support these kind of ethics. Even as a Gatcha type game, Square Enix is truly "Masters of Wealth". Very disappointing.

  • Greediest game I’ve played in a while.

First with the Fiore/Sofia step up banner compensation when they made a mistake and advertised a guaranteed featured unit on step 5, and they tried to only compensate players who made it to step 5 before maintenance, at least they decided to compensate everyone who pulled on the banner. But now with the Bravely Default collab they’ve decided that global players should have to pay for a step up banner that was free on JP. Which also has a lower 15% chance to get the rate up unit on step 5 (it was 50% on JP), and also raised the pity to 200 pulls when it was 100 on JP. I’m done with Square Enix Mobile games. Thanks for the IP ban for requesting a refund (you denied it anyway). Makes it easier to avoid your games.

  • Great game ruined by greediness

This is great game, cool storyline, beautiful music but there’s some fatal flaws in the approach of the developers. -1star: The overall stinginess of developer. The amount of Ruby they give and gain from quest is very low compared to other square enix games. -1star: influence awards (Rubys) gets greatly reduced after level 10(yeah which is stupid) -1star: The recent event JP bravely collab has 100 pity fr each BD characters while we need 200. Also if u read carefully chance fir Adelle on last step is only 15% while JP is 50% fr Adelle. Honestly EN players should be worried abt this behaviour as it is borderline predatory compared to JP. Also JP player got free Agnes and free pulls and got 10x7 count down gem and 88x3 gem during BD collabs(total 334 gem) and 10 pull seal Meanwhile we only get 20 gem and 1 pull seal, Global totally shafted by SE(so short version is the Japanese players get treated better)

  • Loved this game, but…

This has been a really fun game, and you can enjoy it as a f2p, but content will generally be much more difficult. I’ve played without complaint since launch and never felt like I had to spend money, so this would have received 5 stars from me, but the most recent banner has included numerous changes from the JP release that just seem downright disrespectful. Lowering the drop rate for the featured character from 50% to 15% changing the banner to be paid diamonds only, and doubling the spark rate. It’s still a fun game, but this banner just seems scammy and I would hate to see this become a trend. I’ll update this if they stop these changes moving forward.

  • I UNDERSTAND THE COMPLAINTS

It is baffling that the mobile market is yet to address gamer’s underlying interests. I would venture to argue that the majority are willing to more pay for a full game that can be enjoyed. Gamers are truly interested in having the ability to play a console game on the go. Despite the technological advancements I am yet to find a mobile game that is not a micro transactions gacha game. Clearly the ability to port the console Octopath Traveler game to mobile OS is possible. But unfortunately the development team just wants to fool you into thinking you can pass the game without paying for items. Despite the beautiful graphics and gameplay, don’t waste your time. You are better off buying a console game that you can fully enjoy.

  • Don’t listen to the 3 star review by phi whatever his name is

This game is absolutely gorgeous on my phone (iPhone XS max) the game play is fun, I love the stories for each character and I’m actually invested in the dialogue to fully envelop myself in this world. The 3 star review is nothing more then a ridiculous and ludicrous critique to the highest degree. “Oh the shadows pale in comparison to the first one”. They couldn’t write a story, make art or provide anything near what this game has to offer. It’s free to play and not once have I felt the need to spend money. As for the “grind” what did you expect? It’s the same as the first one and if you level up to fast then you’d blow through the game and then say it was to short but now it takes to long. The nitpicking with people just never ceases to end. If you like JRPG’s, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. Enjoy the ride and don’t get hung up on petty “this could have been better if it was more…..”

  • 10/10

As a long time fan of Square enix and specifically Octopath traveler, I was over the moon exited when they announced they were releasing CotC globally. The original game is one of my all time favorites and CotC is an amazing continuation of the series especially for a mobile game.

I have been playing since launch and my only complaint is the load time when launching. That might have more to do with my internet though.

I would definitely recommend this game to everyone who is a fan of the original or of square enix in general. I would also recommend it to anyone who is trying to get into the series.

  • Disappointed really

Its really good so far, but PLEASE, make it so you can you use a joystick to move around instead of the whole flicking thing. The flicking takes away the whole exploration part of the game, which is sad, because you have such beautiful environments, but you can only explore limited areas. Its also really hard to navigate the terrain as well because if you don’t stop in time, you go too far and it’s really just annoying. It’s really disappointing because I absolutely LOVED the first game and was excited to play this. If it gets changed, I’ll give a higher rating but until then, it’s staying where it’s at.

  • Good game, needs cross device auto cloud save

This game has far exceeded my expectations and is definitely something worth your time.

My only feedback is that though you can move your save game from phone to tablet and vise versa, it requires you to login to your Square Enix account every time. This takes too much time. This process should be made seamless. So many other games allow you to pick up where you left off matter what device you are on. That same philosophy should apply here and i think it would get ppl to play this game more.
