  • Search is a huge problem

The way the web works has created a metaverse that warps reality in such a way that each user gets different news and a different sense of what's going on in the world. I'm making an effort to stop algorithms from following me around the web, curating things for me. Part of that mission has been to abandon social media, use a private email server, requesting to delete my data from hundreds of data brokers, and using RSS feeds to obtain news.

One big problem is search. There are basically two search engines in the world, Bing and Google. All the alternative engines like Ecosia and DDG use Bing, and they may not be as private as they may say they are. These search engines often return results to places like quora, snopes, wikipedia, the daily mail, cnbc, twitter etc, webmd, etc Many of these sites use algorithms, censorship to create echo-chambers. Sometimes I want this information, sometimes I want something more scholarly or more independent. I use Qwant, searx, swiss cows, and millionshort (which lets you remove top results from your search) but sometimes I am still looking for information and these other bing based engines just don't work and I end up having to use Google. I have found a tool called Whoogle that is sort of a wrapper for google results but I'm interested in trying You.com because even though it allows for customization, it doesn't follow you around the web or sell your profile to data brokers that can help other news sites and social media services alter my results.

So far it worked OK and I was able to quickly find a recipe that other search engines struggled with. I'll keep testing... and update later.

I LOVE the safety, information and transparency of You.com and customized apps+info!
  • Love love love!

My 2 most favorite features are the vertical and horizontal scrolling as well as being able to search just my social media if I want.
  • Greate search engine, very useful ui

Just one problem why the you app default search is baidu and not you.com?
  • It’s about time!

This search engine actually brings me to sites that I need and that I’m really looking for,
pretty much all the rest of them, bring me to everything but what you’re looking for!!! which ends up sidetracking me, and ultimately forgetting what I was looking for in the first place!!
  • WAS great. But now is just like google.

You.com used to be amazing with horizontal scrolling apps as search results.

    It was innovative and unique.

    Not any more.

Unfortunately, a week or so ago, You.com switched to vertical search results and the apps are diminished to a short preview.

What a terrible design choice. Now it is like google. So disappointed. What could have been…

  • Amazing

So much better way to get to actual answers faster!
  • Thank YOU

I’ve been looking for a replacement for Google and Safari and came across YOU! I love the layout, the ability to choose MY sources, and th privacy. Also, YouWrite is so useful. Keep up the great work!
  • Goodbye Google, Safari & DuckDuckGo

I have tried many private browsers and search engines and although some are great in giving instant answers, some are great when it comes to privacy, you.com is the only search engine I found that is amazing in both. I love how private it is, and the search is infinitely better and relevant than any other search engine out there. I love that I never get ads or junk content and app is fast and free.

  • Amazing search, limiting app.

I found this search by accident. I love to do research and You.com has made it even more fun. With that said, the app is limiting quite a bit. I would like to see a better design that doesn’t include double search bars, which are rather redundant. I have looked at many browsers and I believe as a browser there are many others that are just better by a lot. However, the search here is what is so worth it. I couldn’t find a way to contact before I wrote this review since I only use OnMail as my email service and app.
