Great app

I concur with all the positive reviews here. This app is a super useful tool. BUT it is full of itritating bugs. This don’t mean it isn’t fundamentally all sorts of great, as the positive reviews assert. It’s just that it a much less smooth experience than it need be - especially when using it day in day out as the centrepiece of a practice routine.

It’s particularly the playlist feature that irritates me. It often crashes when making a change and it doesn’t always remember the key/tempo etc. from the last session as it claims to do.

After such bugs are (hopefully) fixed, I’d love to see a cloud-based sync feature added so that state you build up (e.g. playlist stuff) on, say, your iPad is automatically transferred over to your phone. The iReal Pro does this and I love that about it.

But, zooming out again, and putting quibbles aside, I really do appreciate this app - if you’e interesting in improving your jazz playing you should just get it!

Needs an update

Great sound generated by the app and would benefit from an update.
1. Please stop the set list from just playing the next track
2. I still get clicks when using iPad OS 17.6.1
3. iCloud sync would be great too
Thanks :)

Shocked

Holy wow, what a game changer. Have been using Ireal pro for the past 12 years and was getting very frustrated with what has become a zero feel it I will still keep using it but here we go, Quartet has just stolen the show, when my guys aren’t around I ain’t going to get lonely playing with Quartet. I recommend this app it’s a massive step forward at any level towards your playing

Rockin! (In rhythm)

Having just returned to playing trumpet, after some time, and having found a local jam playing swing tunes this app is bang on what I need! The quality of the backings is awesome. One hopefully small wish to ask - as a Bb player a global default for chord transpose would save a load of repetitive tweaking.

Great app, gorgeous grooves and accurate chords

This is a joy to practice with, sonically gorgeous, great grooves and interactive rhythm section. Chords are accurate and beautifully voiced. Much less expensive than IRealPro but with a little less functionality and global transposition (I’m on tenor sax when playing jazz so all tunes up a tone - this can only be done one a tune by tune basis)
Every jazz musician should have this app.
No question.

One serious problem

This would be a five star APP were it not for one issue-the turnarounds in some tunes. Listen to All The Things You are for example. Between looped choruses, the piano player fails to play either a 5 chord or a 2 5 that brings you to the next chorus. This is an unfortunate defect that occurs on the number of tunes. This is a truly unfortunate and ruins would be would be always perfect rhythm section performances. What would also be nice would be the ability to control the volume of each instrument. But I imagine through the garage band app that that is ultimately achievable.

Missing some important features

The app is a nice alternative to IRealPro, and certainly provides superior playback quality because of the samples. But, it’s missing several important iRealPro features so I don’t consider it a full replacement.

Examples:

The tunes are not editable at the bar level. This is really irritating because the tunes use RealBook changes, many of which are Just Wrong. Bar 8 of I’ll Remember April, for example — the app has it set at Gmaj7; most players treat that bar as a G7 or split Dm7-G7, which provides a dominant kick to shift to the Cm at the bridge.

You can’t create new tunes within the app — you are limited to the tunes that ship with it.

No mixer for the playback - you can chose from preset mixes but you can’t adjust individual instrument volumes.

Superb

I’m really pleased with this app. The backings are of the highest quality and the app is so simple, yet flexible, to use. I play sax and particularly like to set extended choruses where I trade 4’s/8’s/choruses with the pre-recorded sax solos. Highly recommended.

Brilliant

A great way to practice with the best jazz musicians around Highly recommend it
