  • App is almost PERFECT

I love this app and I use it constantly. The customer service is great, too! The only criticism I have (and I left feedback and already heard that this improvement may be in the works) is that there are no quantity fields in the recipes. I'd love to take my iPhone in the kitchen and cook right from my recipe in Grocery Zen! 5 stars anyway!

  • Perfect! Just what we needed.

Not only saves time, but money (and stress!) too. Having your grocery list with me all the time lets me add items whenever I think of them, saving that 'smack the forehead' feeling when you arrive home from the store to remember the things you forgot. Sorting the items by aisle is brilliant, and I love the feeling of checking items off and actually having your grocery list shrink. Once there's a way to add recipes via the computer, that feature will also be killer.

  • Great app

Great app! Would be good to have a search function within the recipes/recipe titles, same as with the items... Once a few recipes have been uploaded it's tricky to locate the recipe you're looking for if you can't remember the exact title you used. Would have given 5*s with this feature. It has everything else I need

  • GroceryZen is great!

GroceryZen is a great application. I just loaded about 30 of my favorite family recipes with all their ingredients. I also added a recipe called "Staples" - and included things I buy on a regular basis: milk, eggs, cheese, bread, toilet paper, juice, coffee, cream, apples, bananas, cereal, etc. That way -- I'm less likely to forget something. It is really easy to add ingredients into GroceryZen. I also created new "aisles" for stores that I use for certain items. So my walnuts are listed in a new aisle called, "Costco," and fire-roasted corn can be found at "Trader Joe's." What used to take my 20 minutes of planning each week now takes less than a minute! I didn't type many of the recipes in, but just put info into the notes pointed to the page of my cookbook. I've also thought of scanning in the recipes, then adding them as photos. My only fear is that if my iPod crashes, it will take me a long time to recreate my recipes -- so I hope that the next release will have a sync feature. THANKS SO MUCH!

  • $5 well spent

I am a new convert to the iPhone from the Palm series and then Treo series of handhelds. The only thing I miss about the Palm is the ability to "try before you buy". I think more apps like this would sell if we could try them out first. That being said, I tried ShopShop (nice, but too simple) and Zenbe Lists and read a lot of reviews before settling on GroceryZen. I couldn't be happier. The layout is pristine and intuitive and extremely responsive (I wish the iPhone contacts app was as quick). My wife liked the idea of adding commonly used recipes that would generate shopping lists for you, and the ability to categorize and then adjust categories to your own store is essential. I would have given it 1 more star if I KNEW that the iTunes sync for sure backed up my data AND/OR it had a web sync feature as well. Thanks for a great application.

  • Good, but room to improve.

The reason I decided to purchase this app was for the recipe feature. This app uses the word recipe, but actually means "ingredient list." I found this frustrating. I do, however, find the app useful, but I think there is quite a bit of untapped potential here, and hopefully that list of things shrinks as updates are released. I think a web based companion where you could add and edit recipes would be much more user friendly and time efficient than the current manual editing process on the phone. Also, when the shopping is over, it would be helpful to see the actual steps of the recipe somewhere in this app. Yes, you could put it in the "info" section, but that doesn't seem nearly as useful as being able to access steps in an easy to view way. Last thing I would add to this app is being able to save quantities in the recipes so that when the "add all ingredients" button is tapped, it automatically adds 2 tomatoes, 2.5 lbs sausage, etc.

  • So organized!

I just recently started cooking a lot and this application makes every process so much easier. Way better than having a list that gets lost and wrinkled in your purse, plus it is organized by aisle! I definitely recommend this to anyone that cooks or buys groceries, so pretty much everyone should buy this!

  • Makes grocery shopping easy!

I have always hated putting together grocery lists. You have to pick out recipes from multiple books, write out all the items, make sure the list is organized so you don't miss anything... blah blah. It used to take forever and I always put it off until we were really out of food. Not anymore. Thanks to GroceryZen, preparing to get groceries is quick and easy. Enter all your favorite recipes (okay, that takes some time, but you only have to do it once!) and quickly add either all of the ingredients, or just the ones that you are missing. I love that the list is configurable and that you can change what aisle something is in and re-order the aisles. It even almost makes grocery shopping exciting ;)

  • Needs backup to cloud or Mac

This program would be a big winner if it would back up its data base either to a web site or the Mac. Otherwise you have to put all your changes, recipes, and lists in again if you have a crash in any app (including those backed up) that necessitates a complete erase and restore.
  • Finally!

I saw this app profiled online a couple of months back and had been waiting for it. I needed a grocery list app and was getting antsy since there are a bunch of grocery apps in the App Store. I must say I am glad I waited! This app rocks. It has a huge built in list that is easy to add to and will organize recipes by ingredient. I look forward to more updates for this cool app! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
