New parents check this app out!

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt like during the time of finding out you or your partner is pregnant there’s a lot of searching for the right apps, people, or products you should use and so I wanted to make it a little easier for expecting parents to see someone who cares about what they are going through and hopefully you won’t have to continue app searching after my review.

I am expecting a baby girl and I am 5 months along. I have used this app since the beginning of my pregnancy and since then have tried a few other apps just making sure i’m using the one I enjoy the most. What to Expect has lots of awesome features hence why I love it. It has an option to show you how much your belly will grow along with your baby size week by week. If i have any upcoming events happening I love to see what to expect when the date comes along! I also really enjoy the fact there are multiple short videos every week for you to watch about what your baby will be developing in the womb week by week.
Something else I really like about this app is it has a community area where you can join groups that fit you and you can ask whatever questions you would like or you can read over already asked questions or give advice of your own. It’s a great place for you to feel better when weird side effects come along.

Definitely try out this app!

So GREAT!

I love this app and recommend it to all moms! I started using it when I found out I was pregnant to keep track of my baby’s growth. It’s so fun to see what size fruit he compared to. Not only that, but the app gave more information about what was developing and growing!
I was always reading their articles about common pregnancy questions and “what to expect.” It was very informative and helped me feel ready for motherhood.
I also have the book which I would read alongside the app!
I now have a 5 month old and am still using the app! I’ve joined the community forums which have been great for reading about common concerns (makes me feel less alone). And most importantly, I keep track of baby’s feeds on this app!! This is especially important to me because I breastfeed and definitely have moments of forgetting how long it’s been since he ate. I log/ time his feeds every single time and it’s been a huge help with learning my baby’s preferences. It was also fun to see how his feeding schedule has been changing.
I’ll continue telling all FTMs to get this app because it’s been my saving grace.

Great app for tracking pregnancy; some minor issues

I downloaded this app when I found out I was pregnant in January and have been using it since. I really enjoy it for the most part, the size comparisons (although I don’t believe they’re super accurate), the breakdown of symptoms each week, baby’s growth each week, and being able to join discussion boards and communicate with other members who are also going through the same pregnancy stages.
I do think there could be a little bit better moderation in certain discussion groups as there seems to be quite a bit of moms who are very judgemental and shameful. I have never posted a question on any discussion board as I’m afraid I’ll get backlash from someone being judgemental and thinking they know everything. I also noticed that if you use the app for a period of time, it starts to glitch out and become very slow, basically forcing you to have to exit out of it.
Other than that, I think this is a great app for tracking pregnancy despite a few minor issues.

Great app with links to heaps of articles

I started out trialling Sprout app but noticed that the info in relation to what’s happening to my body was light on.

As this is my first pregnancy, I found myself searching for info that kept leading me to What to Expect… so I cancelled Sprout and switched to WTE instead.

I find there are a few too many emails and personally I’m not into chat groups (everyone is so different) but overall WTE has everything you need.

We're so glad to hear that you're enjoying the pregnancy tracking features of the What to Expect app. We appreciate you taking the time to share your valuable thoughts and suggestions.

God sent!

Must have if you are trying to conceive, expecting, or already a mommy. There’s something for everyone!

BUT…

I’d like to make two suggestions for improvement:

- I love the inclusion features like adjusting the skin tone of the body that mirrors your pregnancy stage. However, more inclusion and diversity could be celebrated for women who are plus sized or coined as having a “B belly” or “Apron belly” (all terms I learned in the community forums lol). Not every woman will carry with a traditional D belly shape, but we should still be acknowledged. You can diversify your photos in your articles to reflect sizes of different women. You can share topics/articles (i.e., Ways to dress your “belly” to feel more confident). My point is, diversity shouldn’t be just seen in the forum chats, but on the larger platform across the app and company. I’m fascinated to see how different shaped bellies look and representation matters throughout this journey.

-Second suggestion: can there be a refresh button or double tapping feature that resets your pregnancy week? Sometimes I want to go to 32 weeks and you literally have to press the arrow 32 times to get there. And there 32 times back? Too tedious. Maybe hitting My Pregnancy button could refresh/reset it back to your current week? Or maybe use a drop down scroll dial to easily select desired pregnancy week?

Heck, just hire me for your DEI or development team and we can brainstorm some more ideas 🙃

Amazing support!

As a single pregnant 21yr old with no family to turn to this app has been a god sent. I have found so many amazing supportive 1st time
And multi children moms. I get great advice from people who have been in my position and no matter how toxic your baby daddy/partners relationship is or the trauma/negative thought throughout the pregnancy everyone I eager to give their advice judgment free. For mother’s who have good home lives but just have questions that would like answered by other mom this is also a great place for that. For me having no support system the ladies I chat with are everything and I appreciate each of them for opening up and being there for me when I need someone. 100% recommend this app to anyone with questions, concerns, or just looking to make friends/talk to other mothers.

Very informative but not gender inclusive.

I downloaded this app once I got my positive pregnancy test results. It has been extremely informative and helpful throughout this process so far. I haven’t utilized all the features within the app but I see that it has so much more to offer then just the week by week videos.

My major frustration with this app is the how that week by week videos assume babies gender. This might be a minor thing to some but it’s something that really frustrates me. I don’t understand why a whole video )I.re.: week 24) was filmed referencing the baby as a male when half of the audience could be having a female? It’s kinda isolating. Also I know this is for some a more modern approach but assuming the pregnant person is a Mom or a cis female is also very presumptuous. If at any point this app & the book it’s based on choose to step into the modern day I hope they choose to be less gender assuming and more inclusive to all people regardless of their gender identity.

Really recommend this app for first time moms!!

This app has been so helpful since the day I found out I was pregnant and still super helpful with my newborn! you can track how far along you are, it’ll update you with baby’s progress, tips on how to take care of yourself, if you experience any symptoms and what to expect and how to deal with! It even gives you advice as to what to bring to the hospital when going to labor, what to put on your registry, etc. what foods to avoid, lots of helpful stuff! Really recommend this app. I’m still using it with my 3 week old and plan to keep using it. It also has a lot of communities you can join to ask questions with other members who are also first time moms or moms with experience!! The most amazing app I’ve ever come across.

Censorship

As others have said, the censorship is a huge problem. Some of the community is also pretty toxic as well. The funny thing is, the moderators do absolutely nothing about the disrespectful people in the community, but are quick to delete posts that don’t fit their agenda because they claim it’s “false information” or “disinformation”. I shared an abstract section of a scientific article based on factual toxicology reports, written by a medical scientist. It was used to just simply share information and I wasn’t declaring it to be “truth” and I was respectful, but nonetheless, WTE deleted it. So basically WTE picks and chooses which science is correct and if you disagree, you are accused of spreading misinformation. Also, people in groups have came forward, stating how the disrespect from some users makes them uncomfortable posting or interacting with other people. It’s a big problem, yet WTE moderators are more concerned about comments that indicate any degree of being pro-life. I really liked this app at first and have been a frequent user, but after seeing where WTE’s priorities lie, I may need to find a different community. I think WTE would benefit from hiring unbiased moderators

wow what a mess

forums are a breeding ground for drama; the way they set it up totally feeds into it as there is no way to remove a post or block someone who is spamming, or being super rude. mods took days to take down the post and did nothing to try to prevent the people causing unnecessary drama prior to taking it down; the forums could be great if they had the basic abilities to block people from responding or take your own post down, but instead it feels like they intentionally made it impossible to fix the situation yourself without having to literally email the moderators and wait days for them to take it down after they failed to fix the deeper problem.

The forums feel like a total scam to make money off their partner ads with no concern for user. Fixing this issue would be insanely easy and so beneficial as it would prevent those just looking to start drama and foster a toxic environment from participating; after searching the forum it is clear that this has been a common issue for others as well so what other reason is there that this has not been fixed in an app that has been out for so long?
