  • OG Pac-Man

I love PAC-man. This is not the game I used to play as a child. I feel this game is pushing too hard to become something it is not, if I could play the game I love I would be happy. All things considered it is a cool idea but having the original maps or a classic mode to play would make my day better.

    Thank you.

  • Needs a joystick

I’m a fan of the original and would prefer to see them stick to their roots. I don’t really care for the story mode or small seasonal mazes, but I can live with them.

The biggest problem I have is the lack of a joystick. The screen control is fine until it isn’t. It seems inevitable that the screen will either get too oily/dirty to work well or be overly sensitive. I have died dozens of times due only to screen control not working like the original joystick. Knowing that I wouldn’t have died if playing on a console but I did die playing on my phone has led me to uninstall the game on several occasions. I’ve come back when bored, but I eventually encounter the same problem and delete the app again.

Bottom line is the original game worked better and was more enjoyable. Too bad the big console won’t fit in my pocket. The fact that this does doesn’t necessarily make it okay that it is so frustrating to play. I can live just fine without it.

  • Ads are not acceptable in a paid game.

This is an Apple Arcade game. Ads are not acceptable if I’m paying for a game.
  • Awesome and brings memories but the thing is.

6 years ago I played the game on the App Store because 1. So I don’t have to find a arcade with a 80’s classic Pac-Man machine. 2. Going to the arcade to play Pac-Man. So downloading it is so much better and easier and gave me so many memories even nostalgic ones too you even didn’t had to play on WiFi either. But which is weird in 2018 they removed the game for the Ralph breaks the internet of a Pac-Man crossover and I didn’t like it because it removed the main game, telling me to install it but now I’m happy it’s back then I haven’t played the mobile version in ages and I saw a big kinda cool modern update with a 50th anniversary, but it kinda removed most of the Pac-Man / nostalgic style of the game but now I’m now disappointed that you now have to play on WiFi and now brings ads so now and they really changed the game but Pac-Man team please bring the memories back please try to make it fun again for everyone please. 🥲

  • Restarting the app

Whenever I play PAC man I complete a level but then it just stops and I have to restart the app to do it again. Really good game though.
  • How do you screw up Pac-Man???

I played this game for a total of 5 minutes and could tell it was low quality, then I deleted it. It’s a simple concept and yet it felt sluggish, cheap, it talked down to the user immediately with it’s overly simple “tutorial” level, and honestly I couldn’t use the digital joystick icon, that it provided me, without my phone thinking I was trying to close the app.

Don’t get me started on the fact that it froze up because it needs an internet connection, I guess?? The original Megaman game fits onto a sliver of the original Pac-man’s and somehow this 21’st century rendition can’t even process the 8 bit system offline. How? All I wanted was to play some passive Pac-man on the ride into work. If there is a Pac-man game on the app store that fulfills this aspect already then I have no clue why this one even exists.

It’s Pac-man… how do you manage to make it not fun?

  • Won’t let me get to the next level

Is very annoying because I don’t even know how to go to the next level and plus there’s nothing for me to press to go to get to the next level
  • Garbage designed to push ads

If you think this is a nice retro game that you can let your kids play, think again! The only thing it shares with the original Pac Man is the graphics. Instead, you get a garish app that seems solely designed to push endless ads at you every couple of minutes. In between ads you get promos and pop ups to buy more ‘coins’ (for whatever purpose they serve).

I gave up trying to find any actual game here after 5 mins.

  • Buggy and annoying

Where to even start, first off as soon as you download the game you’re met with a 30 second unskippable ad. Next, the whole reason i personally downloaded the game (to play the original pac man) isn’t even available until you play the knock off career/story mode of pac man which is filled with power ups and an overload of power pellets that ruin the whole point of pac man. The game is filled with bugs that force you to play levels you don’t want to or equip skins you don’t like. This game has terrible game design and is an obvious cash grab with ads and add ons you don’t even need. You’d make more money from making an original game with the ability to continue with extra lives... 💀

  • iPhone navigation system poor

I was excited to play a bit of PacMan casually, but it created more stress than casuals game should. For iPhone anyway, the navigational system (including the swipe and tap options) are either tempermental or interact with the operating system commands.

For example, swipe up brings up all the apps you have open. So swiping is unusable on iPhone. Tap, if you don't press perfectly in the right place, it doesn't compute and ultimately ruins your game eventually.

I appreciate the joystick style graphics for the games nav system to match the retro theme, but it just doesn't work. 4 decent sized circles to press for directions would be miles better. You could still have a joystick on the User Interface as a static graphic (or even interactive - depending which circle you tap, it could temporarily face that way).

In terms of the swiping option for controls, being so close to the bottom of the screen will never work as thats how to close or come away from open apps.

Unfortunately because of the tempermental controls, I can’t continue to try and use or enjoy this game. Everything else seems fine enough though, hence some points on the rating.
