  • Needs one more feature

So far so good. Does what I need, which is mainly a quick To Do reminder recorder. But what I really want are some preferences that allow that functionality with an absolute minimum amount of taps: 1) open app, 2) tap "Record", 3) speak 4) tap "Send". That's it. Tap and speak and tap and my voice note gets automatically sent to my email address.

I realize this is not the primary purpose of this app, but why not add this "quick reminder" functionality, since all the components to make this work are already built in! All you need do is adjust some preferences.

Then I can get rid of Note2Self, whose developer can't seem to make time to keep that once perfect app updated. It's been broken on either my iPad or my iPhone for about a year now. Come on guys, this is your chance to steal all of Note2sSelf's customers!!

  • I couldn't figure out most of the "awesome" features

Ok I'm not a total idiot, and am very familir with adaptive and dictation apps/programs, but this is not very user friendly for me. Idk if I just missed something or didn't give it enough time, but I couldn't figure out how to "overwrite" or "insert" a darn thing! I'd have given it 5 stars if I could even get it to do what it says it could. And most of these programs want you to pay a truckload of money to have your dications transcribed, and won't let you save your recordings just for your own personal use, but require you to set up an acct & use your credit card to have a transcribed copy emailed to you, which may be helpful for many, but I couldn't even figure out how to insert or overwrite anything. I did get the full version to no avail. I obviously missed something, or it doesn't do what it says. Either way I found other apps that were easier, and free. I'm sure in time they'll have those features too. But for what it's worth, it IS a very useful feature to have, if it's really there somewhere which is why I have it 2 stars... assuming it must be there somewhere but I just missed it. But if I couldn't figure out how to use it & got so frustrated I just deleted it to make room for more useful apps, then that speaks loads to it's ease of use... which won't serve disabled users very well. Idk if there are disabled users who've had the same problems I had with just using the thing, but I imagine it must be. At least they advertised what the free version will & won't do & the limits imposed.... which makes it pretty much "a free trial" that isn't even free enough to really let you get a good idea of it before deciding to buy it.

  • Do not update to V7

After enjoying the Dictamus software for the last 4 months, an ever reliable part of my daily routine, I updated the software yesterday. For no reason, the new version is rendered useless and the app crashes without opening. I've never had problems with updating apps before, infact they have always been reliable but Dictamus is now totally useless!!

  • Works Great

I downloaded this demo to test the full fledged application. I dictate a lot of reports every year (100's) and have tired of the purpose built dictation recorders by companies such as Olympus. After spending $200 for a recorder and $70 for an external microphone from blue parrot, I am struck with the poor quality of the sound.

This sounds great. Using the iphone's built in microphone the sounds is 100 times better than my Olympus. I am buying the full fledged version.

Certainly, the files are going to be larger than DSS files, but the sound is better and they could easily be converted to MP3. I even tried the app with my iPhone ear buds by Etymotic. Sound quality was great.

  • 30secs? who are they kidding?

With a limit of 30 secs for a single recording in this free version, it's useless as anything other than an advert for the for-money product.
  • One of the better ones. Here's why:-

    Dictamus Free

This is a free taste of Dictamus ($12.99), but is limited to 5 recordings of 30 sec each.

    Navigation:
    • uses a ball and stick compressed format. The whole recording is shown in a 4.5 cm long strip with a position ball.
    • Has record timers in 1/10 sec + meter. Playback is similar, and there is a remaining time worm and timer in 1/10sec as well.
    • The recording screen has an input volume meter at the top.
    • This has one of the best set of controls. Large well marked buttons, and very fast reaction time.
    WHAT IT DOES:-
    • Records, pause recording, appends recording at end.
    • Can edit prev files.
    • Inserts more recording at any point, without losing any following recording.
    • Overwrites at any point.
    • Allows editing of file name.
    • Playback volume is excellent- one of the best.
    • has voice activated recording (VAR) selected from a separate settings screen. Records about 1 sec after sound stops.
    • Has extensive sharing via Email and WiFi. Third party transcription service available.

    WHAT IT DOES NOT DO:-

    • NO real-time scrolling waveform for accurate editing.
    • NO mark and delete unwanted bits of a recording.
    • NO macros. Useful for storing often used phrases, and also for templates,
    • NO VAR Input volume threshold setting. (This would enable you to set the volume threshold with a slider to just above ambient noise.
    • NO Bookmarks that can be inserted during recording, and playback, named, listed and editable. Very desirable feature.
    • NO ability to mark and save sections of a recording.
    • NO ability to shuffle and assemble saved clips to form new recording.

    OVERALL IMPRESSION:-
    • Elegant recorder. So, is the full version of Dictamus worth buying at $12.99? Probably not. Works well, but missing needed features.
    • However, IF it had all of the above features, I would be the first to buy it. No other recorder would come close.

  • Simple but effective

Was looking for a simple dictaphone app which could upload to laptop or email- this does the trick and the insert function is essential. Nice, simple interface Great app (as a trial, because the time of recording is too limited) and I will buy the full version
