  • Great genealogy app

I want to refute the low scores that some customers have given. I have been using this app for almost a year and it has worked very well. I am running it on a 2nd Gen iPod Touch. I have been doing genealogy research for about 45 years and it is a real help for me to have a mobile capability like this. I keep my primary databases on Personal Ancestry File (PAF) and the GEDCOM files that it generates are opened correctly by this app. I am pleased, and the price is great. I wrote directly to the developer with a suggestion for an enhancement regarding display of GEDCOM Sources and was pleasantly surprised when he responded with thanks the next day. I give it five stars for functional value for the price.

  • Finally a GEDCOM viewer!

Very nicely done! Exported my Family Tree Maker 2006 data to GedCom format and imported it to iPhone via my home WiFi in seconds. All my data (~800 individuals including extensive notes) seems to have transferred perfectly. Has a good password feature so that your data will not be accessible to anyone who picks up your phone. Locations are clickable and bring up a map--very nice! Also has a good little graphical tree view for pedigree although it did crash the program once (hence only 4 stars in my rating) although the problem has not been repeated. I had waited and asked for an app like this for my Blackberry for 3 years but no one could oblige. Nice to have an iPhone + this app as it will make it easy to check my data when out and about. Many thanks to the programmer, great job!l

  • Awesome App

Great application - does everything it claims. My GED file has over 6000 individuals and it handles it just fine on my first gen iPad.
  • Good App

Basic but adequate. Haven't found any bugs yet.
  • A good program but not enough

Sadly this is the best I've found for the iPhone and it is reasonably good. The problem is that you cannot build from scratch. It requires instead that you have an existing gedcom (which for ancestry users is not good as ancestry built into its gedcom formats a whole bunch of the newer bells and whistles which no one hardly supports). Rootsmagic users will have no problems (although I've only imported rm4 gedcom files).

What is needed for this program are a few more bells and whistles such as a research notes and todo list. Also the ability to work from scratch. If it doesn't get it the impending release of roots magic for iPad and iPhone will kick it to pieces.

  • Importing GEDCOM

Converted my Family Tree Maker 2012 into GEDCOM. Installation was smooth & easy and app is well layer out for ease of use. Very happy to recommend this app.
  • Does exactly what it says

Ignore the bad reviews, a quick scan through them shows a complete lack of understanding of what this app purports to do. It is not a full blown Family Tree program, it never claims to be that. It does however allow you to edit the fields in your GED file, in other words it's a GED file editor, but with some useful embellishments. In fact a LOT of useful embellishments.

I find it useful to carry about as a field tool during research trips. I've downloaded my GED file into my iPad, use Gedview to add facts, folk or whatever, and then merge it back into my computer family tree software. It does what it claims and more.

If you're looking for something to produce fancy pedigree or descendant charts, or link photo and source data, then get the appropriate Family Tree software. This is a tool, and a very useful one.

  • I'm impressed!

Great program! Importing my gedcoms couldn't have easier! It includes all the features necessary for research. I can't imagine anyone rating this less than 4 stars! The best family tree app I've seen!
  • So far, so good

Easy for this 81 year old non-geek ex dumb blond grandma to install. I made my GED and emailed it to myself. So far I am navigating well, but appreciate the easily accessible tutorial. It is always safe to have extra storage, in addition to being able to carry dead ancestors around. Please --- no bugs.
