I like it but when I book for flight it’s says no departure

4 stars

Very good, BUT…

The app works well, but there is one glitch that in some cases renders part of the utility if the app unusable. Our flight was delayed by 40 min., and the delay was known at least 14 hours before the flight. OK, no problem. Delays happen, glad to get advanced notice. Just plan to arrive at the airport a little later. The problem is that all the notifications remain tied to the original scheduled flight time. They weren’t adjusted for the known delay. So once there was a delays, the notifications became moot.

Worst flight experience I’ve ever had

First off to change my flight, I waited on hold for 3 hours. Then due to weather, my flight rerouted and landed in Montreal (when I was supposed to land in Toronto). Things happen. That’s fine. However, we were trapped in our plane for an additional 7 hours on the tarmac (in addition to the 8 hour flight it took to fly from Paris to Canada) with no explanation, or water. When I asked to deplane after 4 hours, they told me I couldn’t, and were only deplaning those passengers who’s final destination was Montreal. They also said if I chose to get off for any kind of health emergency that they would not cover my flight from Montreal to Canada and that they would also fly with the suitcase in the plane without me. Which is actually illegal. This airline is the least efficient airline I have ever flown .

TERRIBLE AND USELESS

Impossible to log in. Requires sign in every time I use the app and then doesn’t recognize my password. Then it prompts me to change my password each time, and launches the website from within the app, which causes endless cookie warning pop ups. Then when i finally change password, it emails me and tells me my account is deactivated. I have yet to successfully use either the app or my aeroplan account, and I only signed up a little over a month ago and have already flown 3 times on Air Canada. I end up using my lap top to get my boarding pass, save it as a pdf and email it to myself. USELESS.

Response from developer

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced with signing into the app. We'd like to clarify that you can still use the app to add your trip, check in, and access your boarding pass using just your booking reference number and last name - no sign-in required. This should help streamline your experience without the need for signing in. For the issues with signing into your Aeroplan account, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. This is certainly not the experience we want our customers to have, and seems to be out of the ordinary. We'd like to help resolve this promptly. Please email us at digital@aircanada.ca with the subject line "App Review from Irritated in BC - Aug 14, 2024," and include any error messages or screenshots. Our team is ready to assist you in getting your account back on track. Thank you for your patience and for flying with Air Canada.

“When I hear the word ‘update’ I reach for my gun!”

This is a very useful app which has just been updated to not run on my iPhone SE which will only run iOS 15.8. Why do app developers conspire to force consumers to update their phones which otherwise work fine and don’t need adding to the world’s mountain of electronic goods waste? 😡

Response from developer

Thank you for reaching out. We understand your concerns about needing to update your device to use our latest app version. Our decision to require iOS 16 or higher for the Air Canada app is based on extensive analysis of user data and industry trends. This requirement allows us to ensure security, introduce new features, and improve overall app performance. It is not a decision made lightly and aligns with broader industry practices where older software versions gradually lose support to maintain security and functionality. iOS 16 is supported on devices as old as the iPhone 8, which was released 7 years ago (2017). However, please be assured that you do not need the latest version of our app to fly with Air Canada. Our mobile-responsive website, aircanada.com, offers a complete suite of services, enabling you to book flights, check flight status, check-in and get your boarding pass, as well as manage your travel plans without the need for the latest app or device. We aim to make our services accessible and convenient for all our passengers, whether through the app or website. We value you as a customer and look forward to continuing to serve your travel needs effectively, regardless of the device you choose to use.

Baggage charges

This concept of not including cost of 1st baggage seems very underhand as vast if majority of passengers have baggage & and find no where on booking form to even add a bag and the costs seems until you have booked, very poor service and makes airline’s are working a scam on passengers

Indispensable app for Air Canada flights

Updating my review…
I’ve flown Air Canada for decades and when I travel now, this app makes everything easier including check in, boarding pass, flight status, baggage tracking, and alerts. It’s really a joy to use.
The only issue I had was checking the flight status of family members using the same URL that works on the Air Canada website. The developers responded and the issue had already been in their queue and is now in the latest release. Upgrading to 5 stars - this app is excellent!

Thank you for the detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear the app makes your travel experience smoother. Regarding tracking flights for others, you can track any flight in the app by searching for the flight in 'Flight Status' and pressing the bell icon in the top-right corner. This will save it to the 'Flight Status' tab for quick access. We appreciate you highlighting the issue with opening links from Flight Status on the website directly in the app. This issue was identified earlier, and will be addressed in our next app update, v5.47, which is set to release the week of July 8th.  This fix should resolve the inconvenience of having to manually search for flights when opening links which have the URL from the Flight Status website. We hope this tip as well as the fix will enhance your experience and make the app just as effective for tracking others’ flights as it is for your own. We look forward to your updated review once this is resolved next week. -- FOLLOW UP (JUL 16, 2024) -- Hello! We launched our v5.47 app update on July 11, which now supports links from the flight status website. When you have a moment, please download the latest version and let us know how it’s working for you. Thank you!

Awesome for my flights; useless otherwise

I’ve flown Air Canada for decades and when I travel now, this app makes everything easier including check in, boarding pass, flight status, baggage tracking, and alerts. It’s really a joy to use.
However, when my family is traveling and I want to check their flight status, the app fails. The Air Canada website has a very handy URL system that lets me set a date, flight, and airport to easily see a flight’s status. I share these links in my calendar or via messages with family and friends when any of us travel. By default, my phone now opens these links in the Air Canada app which shows NOTHING. It goes to the useless home page and I have to either manually search for the flight every time or I have to copy the link from my calendar and manually paste it into my browser. So tracking a flight for someone else is now so much worse because I have this app installed.
If you’re only tracking your own flights, it’s a 5-star app and I’ll update this review if it’s ever fixed.

Service needs improvement

It is given that Flight Attendant’s job is stressful, so is flying as a customer, but a professional flight attendant’s smile and courtesy goes long way in making fliers welcoming and relaxing. I have flown to and from India 6 times in last 2 years ( with my aged father and mother) with the unprofessionalism attitude from the most of your crew, giving a feeling if we are a burden on them. When One asks for a cup of coffee and there are so many different ways to say NO. Sorry to say that such rude and hostile attitude do not belong in this profession. It makes a terrifying and scary environment thus horrible experience. At the end of the flight by saying ‘ Thank you for flying with Air Canada ‘ doesn't erase the experience. I will have hard time convincing myself to book another flight with Air Canada.
