  • Disappointed

I find the app inaccurate when it comes to searching. There are not enough choices, nor do they work. I have tried sevral combinations comparing them with handbooks and on each occassion the app have not been successful in identifying the plant.
  • Nice app even tho it is for Europe

By looking at these flowers I am able to locate ideas for the flowers that are in the US. It has been very helpful to me. Thanks.
  • The best wild flower app

Wild flowers is a brilliantly designed app. Navigation around the app is simple yet powerful. It has most wild flowers I have looked for although some are hard to find. Even whilst using the wizard some flowers don't have the correct leaf types categorised properly so you sometimes have to play with different combinations.

The notes option doesn't seem to work for me though. Does anyone know how to access the notes?

Problems aside, it's a great app.

  • How do you get the English version?

[Please see my questions satisfactorily answered further below]

When trying to change the language to English, it says you should "relaunch" not merely "suspend" the application. I have tried switching it off. I have rebooted the iPhone but still I get French.

NB The error button on the web site doesn't work.

    And no support email address.

Questions answered: Thank you Khymos and Pierre. In order to get the English edition I found you not only had to select the English language - which I had - but also to select UK as the "Regional Format". Pierre has sorted out the Support button which seemed to work in some browsers but not others.

  • Excellent - just need a proper English version!

Easy to use, good photos and excellent 'finder" key. Would benefit from pictures of the whole plant rather than so much focus on the flower itself, but that's a reflection of the fact that I'm using it to identify plants outside their flowering season, which is not necessarily what other people will want.

Outstanding value and much easier to use in the field than the Rose Wildflower key! Now we just need one which covers the whole of UK botany...

  • a useful, well-structured app

A good app, excellent value at only £2.99. The description mentioned 800 species, a review 900 and when I downloaded it said 1000 so I guess it is being actively improved.

Like others I would have liked more detailed descriptions, habitat, distribution notes or map; I'd also like more photos where species are similar or one can't clearly show enough, notes on easily confused species, more English names - some very common ones missing (bramble, harebell). Another feature of translation from French is presumably description of flower shape as "asymmetric" when "bilateral symmetry" seems to have been meant.

But good features I wasn't expecting in an "iGuide" - like ability to add notes. Good switching between English a nd Latin names, sizes clear in pics and descriptions.

I'm not sure that this will mean I don't take a paper wildflower guide with me when I previously would, but it will be great to have with me on the (frequent) occasions I see a flower I want to look up and don't have a paper field guide.

Better may come, with a UK focus, but at present you can't go wrong getting this. It's useful and a bargain!

  • a godsend for the Swiss alps

This app turned out to be a godsend, given the paucity of European flower guides on the web. I do have two suggestions for the wizard, though. All the flowers I was identifying grew at above 2000 meters, and while the species accounts did contain altitude information, I would have liked to have been able to select for that in the wizard. I would also have liked to have been able to select on number of petals. I have no botanical knowledge, and some of the options were (to me) esoteric. I'd be willing to sacrifice some of the current options for altitude and number of petals. I was able to identify all the flowers of which I had pictures. It just took a bit longer than I wanted.

  • Better than a book

Excellent - 900 flowers - the search tool (wizard) is beautifully easy to use. Extremely useful out in the field.
  • Excellent app....

There is nothing like this app currently available for the iphone etc. Unique..... Plenty of species and the wizard makes it easy to do the actual identification. The photos used are mostly really excellent, better than most guides showing flower and leaf which are the best ways to id a plant. I have managed to identify a number of wildflowers while out walking in seconds rather than hours going through the field guides. Once identified from the photo the actual text details are very sparse so this app is ideal for doing the initial id used in conjunction with a decent guide for the details. This is exactly what apps should be used for.
